Helios finished showing off his new appearance, dropping his arms to his sides while grinning at Tsiyaha in self-satisfaction. He now stood head and shoulders taller than her, she was still the size of an adolescent teenager. He had become abnormally slender with digitigrade feet and elongated arms with six digits on each hand. His skin was a pearlescent white with slimy grey tentacles growing like dreadlocks from the back of his head.
“It feels good I’m no longer a helpless little Newborn,” Helios smugly said.
“I can see that. What made you decide on that form?” Tsiyaha curiously asked.
“A human appearance here means you’re prey. If I wanted to cling to it, I may as well abandon any thoughts of survival. I did consider copying you by improving my ability to hide. But there’s no point if I’m to continue being the bait, haha,” Helios jokingly replied.
“It’s reassuring to see there’s a brain inside you, after all. Since you consumed our last victim, the next one is mine,” Tsiyaha said.
“That wasn’t the deal,” Helios replied, causing her to flinch. “Relax. I didn’t say I refuse. What if it’s only a Newborn demon, will you still want it as much? I think it’s better for us to divide the spoils once we have them first instead of taking turns.”
“Okay. That makes sense, but do not seek to take advantage of me,” Tsiyaha reluctantly warned.
“How about this? I swear it upon my true name, Helios, I will not betray you without proper cause,” Helios unexpectedly declared. The Soul Brand inside him reacted by sending out invisible tendrils into the air between them.
“Do you understand what you’re offering me?” Tsiyaha asked in bewilderment.
“I do. If we cannot trust each other, how can we effectively work together?” Helios replied, nodding his head with a solemn expression.
“You’re insane, but alright. I swear upon my true name, Tsiyaha, that I will not betray you unless my survival depends on it,” Tsiyaha replied.
Helios felt invisible tendrils entwine with his in answer to her words. A symbol was formed in the air between them before quickly disappearing in a burst of fire. The smoke drifted upward, catching the attention of the colossal conscious of the Hell gate.
“I bear witness to your contract. To break it means to lose your true name and the power that comes with it,” the expected voice of Satan spoke inside their minds, repeating the announcement from earlier.
Clever. Tsiyaha left herself a loophole to escape the contract if she needs to in the future. I can’t blame her, I did the same.
Tsiyaha suddenly tensed with apprehension, putting Helios on alert. She crouched low and began emitting a low growl in the direction of a sand dune in the distance. Helios followed her gaze and felt a large aura coming toward them, dwarfing any Primus demon he had encountered before. He suppressed the nagging impulse to flee.
“Hiss, Dolore demon. It’s not alone, most likely prey. We need to leave here. Now!” Tsiyaha murmured, abruptly retreating into the forest of stalagmites.
After hearing her words, Helios hesitated for a moment before following. Concentrating on the demonic aura coming toward him. He was able to distinguish a second aura fleeing from the Dolore demon moving quickly toward his position. It would soon be overtaken.
“Fuck,” Helios swore, snapping himself out of his reverie.
He started to run in the direction Tsiyaha had fled, unable to find her presence in the maze of stalagmites. When he passed a large unassuming spike, a hand reached out and dragged him into the shadows. He was about to react violently before a familiar voice whispered in his ear.
“It’s me! Do you have no sense of self-preservation, running recklessly like that out in the open?” Tsiyaha whispered beside his ear, paying special attention to avoid his slime-covered dreadlocks.

“I’m still getting used to demonic auras but did that Dolore demon just suddenly stop?” Helios whispered in response.
Tsiyaha released his shoulders while stepping away after realising he wasn’t going to draw any more unnecessary attention. Her outline was barely discernable against the obsidian stalagmite.
“Yes, it will have captured its prey and will be enjoying its meal, a Primus. That could be us if we’re not careful. We need to get out of its range, your aura will shine like a beacon for it. It’s too dangerous to continue hunting here, sigh,” Tsiyaha replied with a heavy sigh.
“You don’t need to tell me twice,” Helios said, tentatively inching out from the shadows.
“Hahaha, there’s no need to go to that extreme. Don’t forget, you’re the bait,” Tsiyaha wryly informed him, his overcautiousness eliciting a speel of laughter.
“Now you tell me. Enough playing around, let’s get out of here,” Helios replied.
“I thought it was obvious. You’re right, we need to find another hunting ground. Time to go,” Tsiyaha said, snorting in amusement as she confidently strode past him.

An unknown amount of time later after discovering a new area, the pair stalked a group of three Primus demons working together. Tsiyaha motioned Helios forward. Over the course of finding their current hunting ground, they became familiar with each other by slaughtering a slew of Newborns. They felt ready to tackle bigger prey.
“Which one should we take first?” Tsiyaha asked, her appearance had unexpectedly changed to emphasize her curves.
“Can you handle the flyer? I get the impression she’s the most dangerous,” Helios observed, he had chosen to amplify his demonic aura detection along with his Soul Brand. His physical appearance remained the same.
“I feel the same. I’ll kill her before the others in the event of something unexpected happening. You take care of the others,” Tsiyaha agreed.
The Primus demon in question had furled wings hugging her feminine form. That was cause enough for concern, but it didn’t stop there. She also held a makeshift spear crafted from bone. An obsidian spearhead was tied to the shaft with leather. Tsiyaha blended seamlessly into the environment in pursuit of her prey.
I don’t want to know where she got that leather when everything withers into dust after being devoured. I can only assume she cut it from an unwilling donator…
I can’t believe I didn’t think of this earlier. She probably took it before absorbing the prey’s soul. It’s so obvious!
Helios stopped his musing with a shake of his head as he silently rose from his hiding spot. He casually started sauntering into their midst, slipping into shadow as one turned to investigate. He got a clear look at its face. The demon was covered by something resembling an armadillo shell with tusks jutting from its chin.
Its companions stood nearby facing away from Helios. The female one suddenly flared her wings. She eagerly sniffed the air, distracted by an alluring aroma. Lowering the spear at her side, she defencelessly wandered forward in a trance.
“Hey! Where are you going?” the third demon called out, pushing himself to his feet. He was slender, covered in black scales with three horns on his brow.
Helios’ first target turned to investigate the disturbance, giving him the perfect opportunity to strike.
