If I'm being completely honest, I was surprised at how large the land Granny has. Most people only have enough for a house to be built on, but Granny's land has a small farm at the back. She was the one who raised me but I don't even know who she is except for what she told me.
Her name is Granny, she said she has no name and last name and she's a commoner but she knows how to read, how to write and how to sew. It's uncommon, but commoners can be taught how to read or to write especially if they want to become a part of the Adventurer's or Merchant's Guild, just enough to read the mission board or to write information needed in the receptionist's counter. Even I know how to do both of these. However, sewing…
Usually, tailors used to be a maid for a noble. If not, they were taught by people who were one. But it wouldn't be as elegant or sophisticated. After all, noblewomen and maids alike have been doing this for far longer than commoners.
Granny, though… She's amazing at sewing. And not in a way how a maid would do, I can tell.
"Granny." I greet her when I reach the house.
The house is two floors with the living room, kitchen, dining table, a single room, and a toilet downstairs. Upstairs, there are three rooms. One is a library, one is my room, and one is a guest room. The most amazing thing is probably the window where I can watch the sunrise and the sunset. In the backyard is the farm. This is why we can spend ten copper coins a week, there is no need to buy vegetables. We just need meat.
She looks up at me, in her rocking chair. Her hands are busy with cross-stitching. A hobby only noblewomen would have. "You're late." Her eyes pause at the top of my head. "You brought something."
"This is Lime, a slime I found at the border of the forest." I smile while explaining the transparent blob. "Isn't it cute?"
"You called a slime… Lime?"
"What? Gina said the same as well!"
Granny sighs as she goes back to her cross-stitching. "You didn't answer why you're late."
"I had a problem in the Merchant's Guild." I walk to the kitchen, taking off my back pack. I put it near the stairs so I can just grab it when I'm going to bed. I check the shelves to check the ingredients I need for cooking.
"What happened in the guild?" Granny's voice suddenly interjects my thoughts.
"Nothing."
"Ramoonie."
I turn around and sigh deeply. "Just some merchant pissing me off."
"Is it about the land?"
"What else could it be? I don't have anything to offer and this land isn't mine to begin with."
She frowns. "It is yours. When I'm dead —"
"Can we not talk about something so depressing?" I mutter in a soft voice. "I'm tired. I just want to eat dinner and sleep."
Granny's face clears. And yet she still looks pale, and thin… just like my sister in my past life. She meets my eyes. I turn away first. I shake my head, trying to clear my thoughts. I check the shelves again. I need to do my spices, the vitamins stuff is almost finished… Okay, I'll do them tonight.
I take the meat out and clean it with water. I cut it into cubes and put them in a pot to boil them. And then I go to the backyard to get some vegetables. Tonight, I feel like eating carrots and cabbage. I cut them into small pieces and wash them. I go back to the meat; I throw out the boiled water and pour at least five cups. I put the vegetables inside and out Some Herbs That Is Useful that I made with my Alchemy. I taste the soup with a clean spoon.
Good. It tastes like something my past life mother would cook.
Only if we had rice…
When the soup boils again, I turn it off. I sprinkle some vitamin on it and stir it. It tastes good, like it isn't there in the first place.

I put the pot on the dining table and — ah, wait. I touch my head and realize Lime is still there. I take him, and Lime sways back and forth. "Granny! Let's eat!"
"Alright. I'm coming."
I put Lime on the floor, and it started moving around happily. "Just make sure to not get stepped on, okay?"
"Don't say something so ominous to a child." Granny says as she sits.
"It's just a warning. Lime is not easily seen, we might accidentally step on him." I reply and take some plates and utensils and put them on the table. "What have you done today, Granny?"
"I sewed some pillows."
"Oh, are you in need of one?"
"No. I just like making them." Granny clarifies.
I study Granny's face. When I was younger, she looked like someone men would chase for. Tall, beautiful, and independent… She was the perfect candidate for a wife but she refused every invitation, and she punched any guy that tried.
Now, she still looks beautiful, tall and amazing… but older. Day by day, I can hear the same thing my past life sister had said to the old me, how she was ready…
But how about me? I legit had to kill myself just for my sister not to die. I think I might do it again.
"Lime is a young slime. It's way too small."
I blink back to reality. "Yes."
"You brought this kid here to take care of it. It is your responsibility." Like she knows what I was thinking, her words shoot right at my conscience. "I have no plans of taking care of this child like you do, Ramoonie." She meets my eyes again. "Remember that."
I know, is what I want to say. But the words get stuck in my throat.
*
I was named Ramoonie by Granny.
Ramon is my father's name, Mona is my mother's name, and she gave birth to me on a full moon. For Granny, Ramoonie was the perfect name, no doubt. There was a saying that a name is a parents' first gift for their children. My parents died before they could even do such a thing, I'm sure that's why Granny named me as such, she wanted to still keep the tradition even if I'm an orphan.
"I have finished cleaning the plates. I'm going to the backyard, Granny." I yell out as I grab the tools I need. A bucket of water, a basket to put the vegetables in and some seeds. "Is there anything you need?"
"No."
"Okay." I reply.
I walk to the backyard and start harvesting the vegetables that can be harvested. I take care of mostly carrots, cabbages and broccoli. I would like some tomatoes and potatoes but the seeds are way too expensive and they only do well in their seasons. I pull the weeds, and plant some other seeds. When I'm done, I take a shower, change my clothes and check Granny in the living room.
She's not there anymore but a newly made pillow is sitting on her rocking chair.
I take it and offer a small bow to the door of her room.
I know… There's no way she's going to stay with me forever but with what happened to my past life sister and my parents here that died… Am I not allowed to keep someone next to me as long as I can?
