Chapter 6: 6

The dinner was done, although no one spoke all throughout, the atmosphere was good. 

One the servants have taken away the plates and the leftover dishes. Xi Liang started talking to Xi Yu. 

“I heard the someone came to visit you.” 

No one else visited Xi Yu so he must be referring to Lan Zi Yi. “En, someone did came the day before yesterday.” 

Xi Wan who have been silent turned to look at Xi Yu. “What is his purpose for visiting you?” 

Although Xi Yu was well-aware that these people already know, he still answered their question. “Lan Ziyi invited me to the banquet.” 

Lin Yan opened the fan she was holding and started fanning herself. “Are you coming?” 

Xi Wen who heard his words scrunched his brows and before he could speak, he said something. “You can’t attend the banquet.” 

Xi Yu who was about to say yes to Lin Yan, “…..” 

“Why?” 

Glaring at him, Xi Wen said, “Ask yourself.” 

Right, These people must be worried that he would cause trouble in the banquet if he attended. 

“I won’t do anything. I will just attend and eat a bit then go home. In any case, Aren’t you and Wan-ge coming? I’ll just stick close to you guys until the end.” Xi Yu convinced. 

“No” Xi Wen declared. 

Seeing his resolute attitude, Xi Yu turned to Xi Wan who immediately looked away. “…” 

The good pilar crumbled so his chance was on the old one. “Dad, I want to go.” 

Xi Liang was about to acquiesced because this is the first time that his youngest son asked him for something but he noticed a glare of warning coming from Xi Wen. “I’m no longer in charge.” He said coldly. 

“….” Xi Yu got no choice, he shifted his gaze to Lin Yan and subconsciously blurted out, “Mom!” 

The table turned silent, even the servants who was around paused. Xi Yu coughed awkwardly, “I mean, Miss Lin. May I come to the banquet? I’ll be behaving, I swear.” 

“Also, I’m already 25, I’m entitled with my freedom ah! I can go wherever I want since I’m an adult.” He reasoned. 

Lin Yan who was attacked so suddenly with the word ‘mom’ was over the moon as her gaze landed on Xi Wen. 

“No Mom, remember you were the first person who said he isn’t allowed to attend.” Xi Wen knows what his mother was thinking and directly extinguished it. 

Hearing this, Xi Yu have the look of ‘surprise’ in his face as he stared at Lin Yan with a questioning gaze. Some of his hair who were tucked in his ear loosened as he did so. 

Lin Yan cleared her throat. “I said those words knowing that you like the Lan’s eldest son. I don’t want to see you make a fool for the Xi Family.” She originally meant to say ‘I don’t want to see your heart be broken by an undeserving man’ but her mouth said something else. To keep her face, she did not correct it. 

“In fact, I originally have no intention to attend but the soon-to-be-married Ruan Tang begged his soon-to-be-husband Lan Ziyi to come and convince me. Stating that he wont  accept the engagement if I will not be present. He said along the lines of ‘not wanting to hurt anyone else’s feelings’.” 

“I don’t want to become the reason for their failed engagement. Do you guys get my point?” 

Lin Yan understood the underlying meaning on his words but she wasn’t sure if Xi Yu himself get it. “You do know Ruan Tang is trying to shame you right?” 

Xi Yu nodded. “Of course, I’m coming because I wanted to prove him wrong. Perhaps I could save some of my already dead reputation?” 

“Then go, but you must be true to your words. Stick close to me or to Xi Wen.” Xi Wan finally approved. 

“Naturally!” Xi Yu smiled.

This was also his way of telling everyone that he doesn’t give a single fuck about Lan Ziyi. He wasn’t the original owner, He was Xi Yu. A straight man. 

Since Xi Wan already gave his approval, Xi Wen got no choice but to do the same. He took note in his heart that he will watch over this troublesome person when the time comes. 

The discussion about attending the banquet was over and the five people in the greenhouse started talking about something else. The Xi twins and the father talked about business while the woman of the family kept on asking for Xi Yu’s opinion about some outfits she was planning to buy. She also tried to invite him to join her for a spa and so on. 

Xi Yu who was already knowledgeable in dodging invitations from the girls in his family tactfully swerve his way out of a potential torture. 

It was already 9 in the evening when Xi Yu returned to his residence along with Momo. Lin Yan had tried to let him stay over for the night but just like his brothers, he refused and said a not-so-convincing excuse. 

Once he returned to his room, Xi Yu released Momo from the cat kennel and let the cat stroll around in the room. Momo was already feed by a maid from the main house that is why Xi Yu wasn’t worried. 

Despite the exhaustion of today’s itinerary, Xi Yu forced himself to washed up before going to bed. He feel asleep the moment his head reached the pillow. 

The next day, Xi Yu was awoken by the light that was slipping in the edges of the curtain coupled with the heavy thing that was occupying his stomach. 

“Good morning” He uttered as he blearily patted the cotton ball on his stomach. 

He got a meow in response which made him smile. “Our Momo has grown up.” 

After doing his morning routine. 

Xi Yu carefully carried the cat as he went out of his room. 

Breakfast was already prepared when he came down. As per his request the people working on his house ate together with him. 

While eating Xi Yu can’t help but notice something wrong in the atmosphere of the dining table. His conjecture was proven when he caught Xiao Ming, Xiao Ling’s elder sister looking at him with heartache. 

He can’t help but stop chewing his food and he raised an eyebrow to asked her why. 

Xiao Ming averted her gaze before speaking. “The world is vast, people are many. The field of flowers will have its destined morning dew. Like the dawn break through the night. Time will come and everything will be alright.” 

She raised her fist up in the sky and gave a smile of encouragement to him. It’s okay if she was the only one acting weird because she was always like this but how come everyone does the same thing too? 

Looking at the people at the table Xi Yu got worried. “Are you all okay?” He asked tentatively. 

Everyone shook their head and muttered something inaudible. Xi Yu who have a good hearing can’t even catch it. 

He was extremely puzzled by this bizarre scene but as someone with strong mentality he brushed it off as them being stressed out by something. 

Xi Yu wasn’t wrong, everyone working in his house was worried for him. They have heard that Xi Wen allowed him to attend the banquet. The banquet where he will be seeing his beloved person announce his love with someone else to everyone. Isn’t that like being slapped in the face and stabbed in the heart? 

Their thoughts were the same, thinking that the young master must’ve been crying at night just to hide the pain. Perhaps this heartbreak was also the catalyst of his change. 

His love that wasn’t accepted was redirected to a cat that he have never put his sight on before. To do this, the young master’s heart was probably so broken and bruised. 

“Young master, we will help you look your best at the banquet today.” Xiao Ling suddenly proclaimed as she stabbed the poached egg in her plate. 

“Okay?” Xi Yu didn’t know what is going on but he didn’t disagree. He admitted that he needed help on deciding what to wear. 

He have never attended a formal gathering before. He would actively hide in the safety of his apartment, turned of his phone and disappear from the world when he caught wind of some gatherings that his mother or his sister is planning to attend that needed an escort. 

They weren’t rich but since his sister own a relatively famous restaurant, some people would always invite her in gatherings. Alright fine, the other members of the family were well-off apart from him. 

The banquet will commence at 8 in the evening later today. Xi Yu mentally prepared himself to face the people that looked down on the original owner as he eat the last piece of egg. He will do his best to not get pissed off and start a brawl.
