I followed Cindy to my study in the dormitory. It was a spacious room with a desk and chair in the center and bookshelves on either side.

There was a glowing glass sphere on a circular stand placed on the table. This was the magic communication device used to communicate with others. It only supports voice calls, though.

As I entered Cindy bowed and went out and closed the door behind her.

I went near the communication device and said, “Father? This is David.”.

Immediately on the opposite side I could hear mother’s voice, “David sweetie how are you? Are you ok? I heard you won the battle. But did you receive any injuries?”.

I smiled; my mother really loves me. I said, “Mother, yes I am ok, I haven’t received a scratch.”.

Mother replied, “That’s good to hear. I can’t wait for you to come back. I will give that Sera girl a piece of my mind. I will have the Rockwell’s pay for this. How dare she do this to my son.”.

I tried to calm mother down, “Mother wait-“. Mother immediately replied cutting off my speech, “I_I know, you love her but sweetie she needs to be punished. But if you say so, I will not do anything to her.”.

“No I-“, I tried to speak again. My Father spoke this time, cutting off my speech again, “Dear he will be home soon, save the chatting for later. We need to discuss the important stuff here.”.

It seems like he tried to speak but was cut off by mother.

Father continued, “First of all congratulation on your win. And I am glad you are unhurt.”.

“Thank you, father.”, I replied.

“But, this duel, this one could have turned to be a curse for us, if you lost. Moreover, this was an insult to our family. It’s made to look like we were the ones that forced on the Rockwell’s daughter, when it was by mutual engagement. Moreover, she sided with the one who challenged you in the duel, thereby betraying our trust. Son, I understand I understand that you have feelings for her but this has gone too far. I request that you rethink this engagement.”, continued father.

“Then end this engagement”, I said firmly.

“What?”, came father’s shocked reply. He didn’t expect me to agree to this easily but I guess that makes sense, since I was so obsessed about her.

But not anymore, I have no interest in a girl who betrays me like this, who has interest in me, there are plenty of girls out there who are better than her, more loyal than her and come from a better family than her, a Count.

Well, I am sure there were terms agreed from both sides during the engagement but I am sure father can handle that.

However, when I said that, my heart hurt, as if something inside me was telling me not to do this, I guess this is the original David’s affection for me but I am sorry I can’t continue with this, this is for our survival.

So, with great effect, I maintained my calm.

Mother said, “Son, are you sure? Will you be alright?”.

I firmly replied, “Yes, mother, I am sure. She has gone too far this time. I don’t think I can let this go any longer. Don’t worry I will be ok.”.

Father said, “If you say so. Then, I will send a letter of engagement cancellation to Count Rockwell’s house.”.

“Please do.”, I replied.

“Son, don’t worry I will find a better girl for you.”, mother said.

“Mom, this is too soon. I need time for this. And I will the girl I will marry. After all, isn’t this one of purposes of this Academy? I will make sure I find a girl who is good natured and is worthy of being your daughter-in-law.”, I said.

This was true, finding a bride is also one of the purposes of this academy. For noble families it’s mostly arranged marriages, this academy offers an alternative to that. And it’s quite popular to use the academy for that.

“Sweetie, no matter who you choose, mommy will support you”, said Mother.

“Thank you, mother.”, I replied.  She can be embarrassing at times but she is a good mother.

“Ok, then we will talk later.”, said father.

“Alright”, I said and after than father disconnected the call.

Phew that’s one part of my plan. Now, I will be leaving day after tomorrow for my house for summer break.

The school suspends classes two days before the summer and winter breaks so that the students who live in the dormitories can prepare before going back home for the break.

Today was the first day, hence we decided today to be the day for the duel so that we won’t be bothered by classes.

I have something planned for tomorrow but before that.

I called Cindy who was standing outside the door, “Cindy, come in.”.

Cindy opened the door and said, “Yes, excuse me young master.”, and came in.

I looked at Cindy who was staring at me for instructions. Cindy was one who stated with me till the end in the original novel.

She moved with me to the far away territory on her own will. She even tried to protect me when the protagonist attacked in the end and got killed herself.

So, I know I can trust her.

I asked, “Cindy, I am surprised, you never asked me how the duel went.”.

Cindy was surprised for a second then she answered with a smile, “Young master, I already knew the result from the other maids. Besides you told me to not talk to you of matters concerning Lady Sera.”.

That’s true, David did tell her not to talk about Sera, it’s because she kept complaining about Sera’s behavior towards David and David couldn’t it, simp indeed.

I said, “Yes, now I remember. Anyway, you need not worry about it anymore. I have told father to end our engagement.”.

“What?”, said Cindy with a look of disbelief.

“I am cancelling the engagement. She isn’t the right person for me”, I said.

“Pardon me young master.”, said Cindy as she suddenly hugged me.

I was startled with but returned her hug.

“Are you alright, young master?”, asked Cindy.

“Yes”, I replied, my face was pressed against her ample bosom, but at that time what I felt was solace, a place where my mind is at ease, after all these events.

“Good, if you need anything then tell me, I will always be there”, said Cindy.

“Thank you, Cindy.”, I said and Cindy nodded.

We spent sometime in that hug before we went about our daily tasks.
