"Hey, you awake?"

Kano had a dream. A dream that she wanted to be a hero. Someone who could save others in times of need, someone that people would love. She wasn't that person.

She opened her eyes. Her face was a mere hand away from the broken glass. She wanted to sleep, and keep dreaming. Kano lifted herself off the seats, and stretched.

"How's Uncle Tou?"

"He's been sitting idly for a while now," Shin'u responded, looking at the man. Tou Han turned his head.

"I- Thank you," He said sincerely with a tired voice. "You have a blessing of a voice, miss. What subject are you thinking of studying?"

She was reluctant. "I don't know yet."

"I see. What is your name?"

"Kano. 'Ka' like a 'deer', 'No' like 'belonging'."

"She isn't from Morokoshi," Shin'u chimed in. "Anyway, I think I've found a way to get out of here. After observing everything here."

"..."

He explained, "Every person here has an item attributed to them. Mine is the erhu. Uncle Tou has his parents' testament. That means..." Shin'u was in front of Kano, who had her eyes on the floor. "You must have an object."

"Shin'u, I believe we just need to not do anything at all," She replied, avoiding the statement. "I don't have anything."

Kano remembered the rectangular device that laid in her skirt pocket. Never did she want to look at it, or even acknowledge its existence. Her hands trembled as she hovered over her pocket. For so long Kano had stayed in what she described as a paradise. A paradise where she could sleep for eternity. She had hoped that she would leave behind her past self, safe from everyone else.

"I'm sure you've noticed the train descending deeper down below. And I don't want to find out what's down there... So, tell me. If you have something you're struggling with then tell us."

At that moment, Kano couldn't take it. She began to tug at the strings she had accidentally entangled herself with them.

"It was a mistake to talk to my classmates..." She quivered, rubbing her arm. "Maybe it was a mistake to talk to people. People like me shouldn't talk to me."

"... Huh?"

Kano gave a forced smile, "You want my attributed item, right?"

From her skirt she timidly grasped the cellphone. She felt the phone case so smooth, all those accessories and decor she put on it back in the real world. It was already on, and the screen glowed with an online article. She never let her eyes set on the phone.

"Shin'u and Kano, over there..."

They went over to where Tou Han pointed. What they saw was something unfathomable in the strange dimension. It instilled fear in the three of them. The black abyss below them was purely physical.
