⚠️ I am confused. What's the foking difference with the word 'old man' and 'Oldman'. Grammarly seemed tp be strict about that.

But I'm guessing, the 'Oldman' is a nick name or whatever you call old people while 'old man' refers to the 'person' that is of age. Bruh? It's just the same right. But is used in different context. English is mad bruh, honestly ???? ⚠️

Just ignore it if you see this term being used in an incorrect way in this. I'm tired of tracing it.

========================

I am currently in what you can call a living room inside of old man Mitsu Bishi's house, sitting in a seiza position. In front was a small table and I had a 'zabuton' cushioned on my butt. It was only me and him here in the house.

'This is uncomfortable.' I thought.

I am talking about my current position.

I wonder how Japanese people feel comfortable sitting this way because it's really not something the people, in general, would fancy. If not for my strong legs, I would've had a cramp by now.

Then why sit like this then?

It's because I'm a good man and I respect their culture. They say when in Rome, do what Indians do.

Was that wrong? Who cares? Anyways.

I am talking about Japanese culture.

I now strongly believe that this place is similar to or exactly that of ancient Japan from the Edo era. I know because there was a time when I was surfing YouTube on earth, and I found an intriguing documentary about ancient Japan. I don't really remember the other details but, I am a visual learner and those ancient structures featured in the video were clearly etched on my mind. And that is exactly what the houses in this village look like.

*Step Step Step*

I heard footsteps on a wooden floor coming near.

"Sorry, about the wait. Here's your tea."

Oldman Mitsu Bishi came, carrying two cups, and place one near me.

"It's fine. Thanks for the tea."

'Room' I made a small invincible dome.

'Scan' I discretely put my hand above the cup and formed a circle with my thumb and middle finger to observe the tea from there.

'It's clear.'

I canceled the dome after.

I brought the cup to my mouth and took a sip of the green tea.

*Surp*

'It's nice.'

It tastes grassy and mild. It's bitter but I like it. It's soothing.

"How old are you now Shin, young man?" Oldman Mitsu Bishi asked after he took a sip from his cup.

"I'm currently 17 right now."

I replied in a neutral tone.

He look down and hesitated for a while before he spoke again.

"My granddaughter would be the same age as you if she was with me right now." He said with a longing expression.

"..." I fell silent. I think he's about to share a heavy topic.

He had told me earlier that the onis took her granddaughter but he didn't specify anything on what had happened to her after that.

'I guess this is the right time to ask.'

"If I may ask, what happened to your granddaughter, Oldman?"

I can infer but I had to ask.

"She was killed… By an oni."

"..." I kept silent and waited for him to continue.

"It happened one and a half months ago. One night, when we were having dinner in this house, an oni suddenly broke in.

It had a fearsome look. It targeted me after he noticed us.

… He aimed his claws at my chest, I closed my eyes as my life flashed before me and I surrendered my fate at that time…

But the next second I didn't feel pain. When I opened my eyes I saw my granddaughter in front of me, she was pierced in the heart.

… She died.

I thought I was about to be next but it went away quickly as the oni noticed that it was almost dawn. So I was saved back then." He said with regret present on his face.

"..." I kept silent as I thought about what he said.

'Was the oni so kind to have used the door to break in?'

I thought it was weird.

I was looking around to see if there were any holes patched up from the walls of this house and I didn't find any.

It might have been replaced and rebuilt you say?

He stated that it happened about 1 ½ months ago. I think it might have been possible in that time frame to fix this house completely if we exclude the fact that this old man was poor.

But no. If it was fixed then, it would've been obvious that there was something out of place as the walls would definitely look new.

But it wasn't. The walls were even looking old and rusty.

'It escaped at dawn, huh?'

That means there was a struggle right?

But I can't see any claw marks or any scratches to indicate that something happened. He stated earlier that it happened in this house so there must've been some signs on the walls, floor, or ceiling. But, once again I couldn't see anything out of place.

'That's weird… It felt like it was just a made-up story. I think he's lying about it.' I thought. His story seriously has a lot of holes in it.

.

(A/N: Guess what? It's a made-up story and I didn't even think much of it. As I wrote this, I suddenly felt like becoming a detective for some reason. I tried but…

I read this chapter again and again and I thought it has such a weak execution. So yeah. I'm never trying it again. Kekekeke)

"... Anyways. If she was still here I would have pushed her to marry you, young man. But since she's not, then…" He said as he look straight into my eyes.

As I was lost in my thought, I felt that something had changed in his atmosphere. It turned sweet — as if his previous look was just a ruse earlier.

"You're a very kind young man. I know the one who will marry you someday would be happy for life." He said with a kind smile, eyeing me as he tried to reach for my hand.

Noticing this, I swiftly held the cup with both hands, raised it, and then took a sip

"Tsk!"

'Hey, you clicked your tongue, right? I heard that.' I commented in my mind.

"Too bad, too bad." He said with a kind smile, still, his eyes on me, and shaking his head in regret after.

'You mean too bad for your daughter, right? Make it clear, damn it! I don't like where this is going.'

"You're quite handsome too… Say, are you still single, young man?" He said cupping his chin, having a serious expression as he gaze at me. He was licking his lips too.

"..." I was silent. I didn't answer his question.

'Oi! Oi! That's fucked up. I don't go for old coo — no I don't swing that way. Stop staring at me like that!' I shouted in my mind as I saw the old man's disturbing expression as he looked at me.

'I gotta get out of here.' I thought.

"Oldman, I'm sorry for your daughter but –" I said while trying to stand but stopped as he interjected.

"I think there was a young single woman like you too here in the village. She's quite the looker too. How about I introduce you to her?" As if he noticed my displeasure, his expression quickly turned normal, and said that.

"..." I don't know what he was trying to do now but I sat back down. I changed my mind, I was about to rudely dart off from this place but decided to keep it down.

He's a weird person who I think has complete control of his emotions. I don't know if what he's saying earlier was genuine. But he is still an old man, it's better to show some respect. I'll listen to him one last time.

"Tell me about it old man."

"..." There was a silence. He didn't say a thing.

.

.

.

Minutes later, I heard him laugh.

"Hahahahahaha. I don't swing that way, young man. I was just kidding. I don't want you to feel bad after hearing my granddaughter's story." He said as he laugh, tapping the table with his hand.

'I doubt that.'

"Ha ha ha don't do that again old man. You almost scared me." I replied. Strangely my laugh wasn't right.

"So I was saying? Yes, yes. About this girl…"

I just listened to him quietly as he told me about this one girl who was so pretty, kind, and single. Yada – yada details, whatever.

It's not that I'm not interested, but coming from this old man? Who I think — I don't know if what he's been spouting was bullshit or not.

I gotta say if he was really acting then he's really good at it.

I remember how he looks so down earlier, and him struggling to carry that basket. He was definitely not lying about it.

Well, I did offer some kindness but if it was just an act… Then, from now on I'll just mind my own business.

(A/N: Tell me guyses and girlses or whatever gender you fancy. What do you think about the personality of the MC?

I read this a couple of times. I couldn't understand what was going on in the mind of the MC. Kekeke I need your help to name his personality.

For me, I think he is bipolar. But I think there might be something more specific to call this. Help — I need.)
