Halo interlinked his fingers with Juliano as he laid in his arms and rubbed his hand up and down his back.

Romeo was sitting in a chair watching them.

Halo sighed and said, “You should stop crying now.”

“But, but I wanted to see her,” he said and sobbed against his chest.

Kissing his forehead, Halo said, “There will alway be another chance.”

“But what if there isn’t another chance?” Juliano asked as he looked at Halo.

Halo smiled at him. Cupping his face he said, “Let daddy worry about that, okay? Now is not the time to cry like a baby when you are a big boy. You’re starting school again soon and you need to get ready.”

“But I don’t want to go back to school. If I go, then how am I going to spend time with you and daddy?” Juliano complained.

Romeo smirked behind them.

Halo looked at him and asked, “Aren’t you spending enough time with him?”

“He always wants to visit you,” he said.

Halo sighed, “I better hurry and get better than.”

He looked at his son, then thought of something. “You’ve been wanting to visit Nylah and Antonio. How about I phone and ask if you can?”

Juliano just stared at him, then climbed off the bed and said with a pout, “Daddy doesn’t like Tonio’s father, don’t bother.”

Halo looked at Romeo as he looked at him and frowned. Turning his gaze back to his son, he said, “And that has nothing to do with you.”

“But daddy,” he whined.

“Just shut it! Who’s the father, me or you?” He asked.

Juliano went silent as he pouted his lips.

Halo looked at Romeo and asked, “And you! Why are you putting your ideas in my child’s head?”

“Am I wrong?” Romeo asked.

“That bullshit is between us! Our children are innocent,” Halo said.

Romeo rolled his eyes. “Whatever.”

The doctor came in and gave them the good news that Halo could go home soon. After he left, Juliano climbed onto Romeo’s lap and asked, “Daddy, are you still leaving us?”

Romeo looked at him confused, “Leaving you?”

“Mn, you said you are leaving,” Juliano said.

Staring at him, he thought about it, then answered after sighing, “I said I was going back to my home. But I guess I won’t any more.”

Juliano grew confused. “So you’re staying now?”

Romeo glanced over at Halo, then back at him and said, “Yes, I think it’s better that we stay together. Me, you and daddy.”

Juliano hugged him then turned to Halo. “Did you hear that, daddy?”

Halo forced a smile. He was both worried and relieved. “Isn’t that good?” He asked.

Juliano nodded his head, “Yes!”

He squeezed Romeo tighter, than his stomach growled, and he said, “I’m hungry.”

Romeo chuckled and stood up. He looked at Halo and asked, “Do you want anything?”

He shook his head, “Can you find out if they can’t release me tonight? I’m tired of the hospital.”

Romeo nodded his head. “I’ll do that after I drop Juliano off by your mother.”

Romeo walked into the hospital room and saw Halo stretching his body.

“Should you be doing that?” He asked.

Halo turned to him and smiled, “I’m getting bed sores and numb.”

He nodded his head and sat on the bed next to Halo.

Looking at him, Halo asked, “Are you serious about staying? I thought you didn’t want to be under the same roof as me.”

Looking into his eyes, he said, “Halo, you’re cruel. Not only did you keep Juliano from me, but you also lost my child. How do you expect me to trust you?”

Halo looked away and said, “How do I trust you, huh? It’s funny how you think you’re innocent. Did you forget? You walk around with blood on your hands.”

Romeo lifted his hand, wanting to smack him, but he placed it on Halo’s thigh and rubbed him gently. “I see you are still thinking about that dumb cop.”

Halo looked down at the hand and felt lost. He took in a deep breath and said, “You and I aren’t in the right space and I don’t think we can be a happy family like Juliano wants but I’m willing to try, it’s just that you’ve hurt me so much Romeo and even though I try, I can’t get myself to do it.”

“Then how about we start from over? Forget everything I did to you and I’ll forget everything you did to me?” He suggested.

Halo turned to him and asked, “How can I be sure that you won’t bring this up again?”

“I’m not sure, but I’ll give you the right to end things with me and leave with Juliano,” he said.

“But why? Why, after all you’ve said to me?” He asked.

Romeo stared at him for a while then said, “I can’t get the picture out of my head of you lying there in a pool of blood. Even on your bed when I went home, you should have died, but you didn’t.”

Halo nodded his head and silently agreed—there was no escaping this. He didn’t want Romeo to leave.
