The group of friends was silent. They weren’t in the mood to continue their day at the beach after Juliano left and packed everything up.
A few of them, including Lilith, caught a ride with him and now with him gone they didn’t know what they were going to do, especially with them renting a house together at the beach, but it was far to walk with the things they brought.
“Romeo’s car is still here,” Andrea said.
They all looked at head and sighed, relieved. Lilith especially.
She left everyone behind and made her way over. The windows were tinted, so she wasn’t sure if he was in the car or not.
Knocking on the window, she waited. A few seconds later, the window wound down, and she was staring at him.
“Romeo, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you,” she said.
He turned to her and said, “Get in and tell the others to hurry.”
She bit her lip, worried. He didn’t accept her apology.
When the others climbed in, he started the car and drove back to the house.
Lilith couldn’t stop looking at him, and it was agitating him.
He was silent the entire ride back and the others, too.

Walking into the room she share with him, she had a plate of food and said, “Everyone ate already.”
Juliano turned to her and looked at the food. Taking it, he said, “Thanks.”
She sat down beside him and asked, “Are you mad at me?”
He turned to her and asked, “I don’t understand why you’d react that way, Lilith. How long have we been together?”
“I know, I know. I’m so sorry, I don’t know what got into me,” she said.
Juliano pulled his arm away that she was rubbing trying to comfort him and said, “How am I supposed to accept that apology? It’s like you’ve had doubts all this time about me and you didn’t even listen to me before assuming that I’m gay. If you had an issue with it, why did you pretend in front of my parents and continued being in a relationship with me?”
“Wait, wait, Romeo, it’s not what you think,” she said, getting up.
“Don’t give me that shit! I’ve been ignoring it all this time, but from you, Lilith? Did you really think it would not piss me off?” He asked.
“Romeo, calm down and please listen to me,” she said, kneeling down in front of him.
Romeo went silent, giving her a chance to speak. “I, I really don’t know why I reacted like that. It was childish of me. I’ve never had it in my thoughts that you could be gay like your parents.”
“Don’t lie to me. When the kids made fun of me at school, you never stood up for me and instead laughed with them. I don’t know what made you do, but you can’t deny it Lilith, even your parents have gossiped about me. Hope that you’d leave me for someone else and you know what? I think you should. Being gay runs through my blood and even if I am not interested in men, my children might be so let’s save yourself the embarrassment right now and call it quits because right now, I don’t even want to be in the same room as you.”
“Romeo, no, baby, wait,” she tried her best to stop him but he moved her out of the way, grabbed his jacket and left the room. He didn’t bother looking at their friends that were silent. He knew that they had heard everything, after all. These walls were thin.
Juliano got into his car and drove off. He went back to the beach and looked out at the scenery.
Today was a bit too much for him, but he was grateful. He had been looking for a reason to leave her, especially with his plans to move back to America. He was tired of this place. He knew no one here and his parents? He needed a break from them. They were too perfect in the wrong way.
He climbed out of his car, needing the fresh air. Taking out his phone, checking the time, then switched it off.
Hours must have gone past when he finally arrived back at the rental house.
Damien was awake. He was worried about Juliano and couldn’t sleep.
He smiled sheepishly when he saw Damien in the living room and asked, “Why are you still up?”

Damien raised a brow. “Why are you coming back so late? I thought something had happened to you.”
Juliano smirked. “Nothing will happen to me, I can guarantee that.”
Juliano dropped beside him and rested his head on Damien’s shoulder. Sighing as he looked at the t.v that was on but mute, he said, “She’s not completely wrong you know?”
“Who?” He asked.
“Lilith,” he said.
Damien sighed and asked, “About what?”
“Suspecting that I am gay,” he answered.
Damien chuckled, “You two barely kiss in front of us and I heard she was planning to give your her virginity but your ass hasn’t made a move yet.”
Juliano narrowed his eyes and looked at Damien’s hand. He reached for it and entangled their fingers. Rubbing his thumb against Damien’s, he said, “You know, I don’t like being touched by others.”
“But that doesn’t make you gay, Romeo. Clear the air. Why don’t you tell her?” He asked.
Juliano shuddered. He shook his head, saying, “I don’t want to live through that again.”
“It’s nothing to be ashamed of. You’re here and you’re alive. I am glad that I got to know you, but I know that there is a lot that you haven’t told me,” he said.
“Like what?” Juliano asked.
Damien turned to him and asked, “Like why you want to go back to America and why you stopped speaking to that boy?”
Juliano chuckled. “Is it wrong to want to go back to the place I was born? My parents left, they didn’t ask me and I’ve applied to the universities there.”
“And the other thing?” He asked.
Juliano sighed. “Well, I don’t know. I just didn’t know what to say. I used to be excited when I was a kid and I think I fell in love with him too, but after a while, I just realised that it was all in my head. What if Antonio doesn’t exist, and he is actually my parents writing letters to me?”
Damien chuckled. “You’ve got an overactive imagination.”
“I know, right?” Juliano winked at him.
Damien flicked him on the nose and smirked as he whispered, “Everyone is sleeping and my room is cold. Wanna crash there?”
Juliano nodded and stood up. Their fingers were still interlinked.
Damien switched off the t.v making the room house dark and got up. They walked hand-in-hand to his room.
Damien didn’t switch on the lights. He took his shirt off then pants then helped Juliano out of his shirt and pants.
They walked up to the bed and Damien placed his hands on Juliano’s shoulders. Gazing into his eyes, he asked, “Are you okay?”
Juliano nodded his head and grew shy.
Damien moved closer and wrapped his arms around him. Hugging him, he asked, “Are you still okay?”
“Mn,” he hummed.
Damien lowered them on the bed, then pulled Juliano closer and said, “Don’t worry about anyone catching us. I locked the door.”
“Thank you,” Juliano said and calmed down, closing his eyes and falling asleep.
