Milaan’s face was stained with blood and tears. The thought of her brother being dead had crossed her mind and if it wasn’t because his pulse was active, she’d believe it.

She dragged his body back into the house but as she saw the blood; she started trembling. What could have happened?

Did he try to kill himself?

She dragged him over to the living room and left him on the carpet. Placing a pillow under his head, she sat there and stared at him. Her body was trembling from the cold and from being frightened.

Romeo burst through the door, “What happened? What happened?”

Milaan turned to look at him and saw a gun in his hand. Behind him were three people, two women and a man. They were armed and ready to attack anyone.

Romeo looked down at his daughter and saw that she was frightened and looking at the people with him. He told them to lower their guns and walked up to them.

Kneeling down, he checked Juliano and asked, “What happened to your brother?”

Shaking her head, she said, “I don’t know. I was in the kitchen cooking. I thought I was alone because he told me he was going to Damien.”

Romeo cupped her cheeks so that she would look at him and asked, “Okay, when was that?”

She thought about it, answering, “I don’t know, two, maybe three hours ago.”

Romeo frowned and nodded his head, “What happened next?”

She shook her head, “I was chopping up the vegetables when I saw him walk through the kitchen with an axe in his hand. He fell into the pool and when I took him out he was saying something about no one is going to hurt us anymore.”

Romeo thought about it for a moment. He kissed her on the forehead and hugged her saying, “Good okay. Stay here with your brother, I’m going to go check up on something. Daddy’s going to be home soon and when he comes tell him to look after Juli while you go wash up okay princess?”

She nodded her head, “But daddy, is something wrong with Juli?”

He smiled at her assuringly and ran his hand over her head. “No princess, everything is okay and there is no need to be scared.”

“Boss?” one woman called.

Romeo smiled at Milaan, then got up and looked at her. She had seen the blood and followed it. When she saw it led to a trapped door, she returned to call him.

Romeo didn’t need to ask her what it was. He suspected something. When he made his way to his office, his suspicion grew.

The blood led all the way down the staircase, and he didn’t need to enter the quarters that held the cells to see what took place.

Romeo placed his hands in his pocket as he took step after step.

All the doors were left open and the blood covering the floor was way too much. Anna’s body, well, you couldn’t tell that it was her unless you look at the hair.

He made his way to Arnold’s cell, and his eyes widened. He walked into the cell and stood over the body pieces. Turning his head to the bed, he looked at Arnold’s head, that was placed on it with his eyes next to the bed and his tongue.

“Who is this boss?” The man asked.

Romeo turned to him, then looked back at the bed and sighed. He rubbed his hand over his beard and said, “Call the clean-up crew.”

The man nodded his head and left.

Halo came running down the steps and gasped when he saw all the blood. He walked towards Arnold’s cell and saw Romeo staring at the head on the bed.

He walked inside and touched Romeo’s back, pulling him out of his thoughts.

Looking at Halo, he wanted to smile but couldn’t.

Halo looked at the head and asked, “What do you think happened?”

He shook his head. “I just hope that he isn’t fucked up.”

“What do you mean?” Halo asked.

“Mentally unstable,” he answered.

Halo brushed the thought away and said, “For get it. My son is as sane as I am.”

“I didn’t think he’d go this far. Did you see what he did to Anna?” He asked.

Halo looked back and he couldn’t say that he was surprised. Finally, he’d stop feeding these people that didn’t deserve to die, but now there would be peace in his life. He wouldn’t have to look at Arnold’s face, who kept asking him about Juliano.

Juliano opened his eyes, but the eyelids were still heavy. He could feel that someone was playing with his hair and looked up.

Halo smiled down at him, asking, “Awake?”

He nodded his head and stretched his arms with a yawn. “Yes, but I’m still tired.”

Halo chuckled. He looked over at Milaan, who was on a beanbag wearing a teddy bear onesie. Looking back down at Juliano, he said, “You scared your sister.”

“How?” He asked.

“Well, you were covered in blood, and she had to pull you out of the pool,” he explained.

Juliano frowned as he looked up at him. He thought about it, but couldn’t recall any of that. Sitting up on the bed, he saw his sister, and she looked like she hadn’t slept in a few days.

Turning to his father, he said, “I don’t remember that.”

Halo raised a brow. “What do you remember?”

He looked away at the wall and recalled what had happened. Turning to Halo, who looked at him with a worried look, he said, “I remember everything until I killed him.”

“What do you mean?” Halo asked.

Juliano shook his head. “He told me that if he met me before his wife, we would have been happy together.”

“What?” Milaan said, frightened.

“Is that really all you remember?” He confirmed.

Looking into his father’s eyes, he said, “No, there’s something else that’s confusing me.”

“What is it?” He encouraged him.

“I… he, before I killed him, he looked at me the way you look at dad,” he said.

Halo hugged Juliano and said as he pushed down his tears, “His dead now, my baby. You don’t have to worry about him or think about him ever again.”

Romeo walked into the room. He overheard what Juliano said and went to sit on the bed.

He looked at his son, who let go of Halo and was now staring at him.

“What?” Juliano asked.

Romeo continued to stare at him for a while, then finally spoke, saying, “We had to tell Milaan.”

Juliano looked over at his sister, who was staring at him with tears in her eyes. He smiled and said, “It’s okay, I’m fine.”

Milaan got up and climbed onto the bed. She hugged her brother and burst out crying. He was so happy and to her it was normal for him not wanting to be touched but to think that all of that was caused by a past trauma. She just couldn’t imagine it.

Rubbing her back, he couldn’t stop smiling. He felt so relieved and happy. He could feel the weight lifted off of his shoulders, and now it was just a thing of the past.

Turning to his father, he asked, “Will I go to jail for killing them?”

The husbands scoffed, surprising their son. Romeo stood up and asked, “Who do you take me for? Oh yes, you didn’t let me finish explaining my story to you, did you?”

Juliano shook his head.

Halo pat his shoulder saying, “Child, your father owns the underground of Canada. Who’s going to arrest you?”

Milaan stopped crying and looked at them. Sitting up, he asked, “What are you talking about?”

Romeo sighed and said, “It looks like I need to show you children that life because only then will you fully understand and Milaan, under no circumstances are you allowed to show any signs or hint at any information that you know of what I do because it’s the only way you will stay safe. Take your father, for example. How long are we together, and he knows what I do?”

Milaan looked at Halo and frowned.

“Is our life a lie?” Milaan asked her brother.

Juliano had just gotten out of the shower and was drying his balls off. He raised a brow and looked at her. “What are you talking about?”

“This whole thing, now that I think about it, I am the only one who hasn’t killed someone,” she said.

He looked at his sister as he sat down and smiled. “It’s scary, but I think our dads are immune to it. Just leave it, as long as you don’t get hurt like I did.”

“Are you sure you’re okay?” She asked him.

He nodded his head. “Yeah, I can finally move on. I slept so well last night that it’s unbelievable.”

Milaan stared at him but didn’t believe him. Juliano had lied to her, her whole life. He was preparing to move back to America. Was there a reason he killed those people?

Would she kill those people?

Staring at him, she wondered, ‘Are you really okay? What are you running away from?’
