A few days later…

Halo kissed Juliano on the lips and rubbed his head. “You’re so brave, my baby.”

Juliano smiled up at him, “And you are brave too.”

Halo chuckled, “Do you know how much I love you?”

Juliano nodded his head, “To the moon and back.”

“Even more,” he said and nuzzled their noses together.

Juliano hugged him, “How is Romeo? Is he scared?”

Halo shook his head. “I don’t know. I’m going to go see him just before he goes in for surgery. He complained he was hungry.”

Juliano chuckled, “Is he really not scared?”

Halo shook his head. “Romeo is the strongest, toughest and the bravest person I know.”

Juliano sighed, “I wish I was like him. He barely speaks to me and just stares.”

Halo chuckled, “You’re in the hospital, Juliano. I’m sure he’ll loosen up when you are out.”

Juliano nodded his head, he patted his hand and said, “I think you can go visit him, it’s almost ten.”

“But I don’t want to leave you my baby,” he said with a pout.

“I know, I know,” Juliano said, ushering him out of the room.

Halo glared at the door that his son closed, then sighed. Did he really have to leave and go pretend he was happy to be in the same room as Romeo?

He made his way to the room and saw that he was getting dressed. He knocked on the door and smirked. “Am I disturbing you?”

Romeo turned around, surprised, and smiled. Shaking his head, “No, you can come in.”

Halo walked in and sat on the bed. He looked at Romeo and asked, “How are you feeling?”

Romeo sat down on the bed and leaned down to kiss him. Looking into his eyes, he said, “Better now that you are here.”

Halo had the urge to wipe his lips but held back, “So you’re nervous?”

He nodded his head. “I can’t help but think that I might die after this.”

Halo punched his arm. “If your black ass dies now, well, at least my kid will live.”

Romeo glared down at him. “You’d like that, wouldn’t you?”

Halo winked at him. “No, I wouldn’t. Besides, Juliano is looking forward to getting out of here and spending time with you.”

“He is?” Romeo asked, surprised.

He nodded his head, “Yeah. He was just complaining about how you don’t speak to him and just stare.”

Romeo chuckled. “I don’t really know what to say to him. It’s weird looking at someone who looks like you.”

Halo placed his hand on Romeo’s and said, “He is your child. I don’t know what you two can talk about, but at least try something. Children like attention, and Juliano is no exception.”

Dr Martin walked in with another doctor behind him. Looking at Romeo, he asked, “Are you ready, Mr Washington?”

Romeo looked at them and nodded his head, “And you don’t do shit that’ll cost your life, do you hear me?”

Halo got up and agreed with him. These doctors were sketchy and were one hundred percent on Romeo’s side this time.

The doctors left while the nurses came in and made sure he was ready. Romeo looked at Halo and asked, “Can we start over once I wake up?”

Halo looked down at him and slowly nodded his head. “Even if you didn’t ask me, you already know what you want.”

Halo paced up and down in front of the operating room, waiting for his ex and his son to be released with good news.

His family was here today with him to support them and so were Romeo’s, waiting patiently and nervously.

Halo’s father looked at him and said, “You aren’t helping by panicking like this. The doctors know what they are doing.”

Halo glared at him and said, “And what must I do with that information?”

“Halo, don’t bite your father’s head off,” Angela said.

Halo looked at his mother and wanted to cry, but his eyes were tired from shedding tears. He sat down and glared at the floor, but the longer he sat there, the more he felt conflicted.

Getting up, he walked off to get some fresh air. Pushing the doors open, he reached the staircase and sat down. Hugging his legs, he looked down at his shoes. His eyes tore up, and he grew angry.

“I fucking hate this shit! Why does Romeo have to be his father? Why does he have to lie to me and why does it bother me he is lying? I wish we never met!” He said to himself. Then he realised he wouldn’t even know about the surgery if it wasn’t for Romeo.

As much as he hated to admit it, he loved that mother fucker with all his heart and it was all because Juliano looked like him and acted like him. From the small things he does to the eccentric person he is.

He wiped his tears away and sighed. “It looks like I can’t escape him in this lifetime.”

A day later…

Romeo stirred awake to a quiet room. He tried to sit up on the bed, but his body was hurting. He felt something clench his hand and when he looked at what it was; he saw it was Halo, sitting on a chair asleep.

On the other bed, Juliano was lying fast asleep.

He held Halo’s hand and smiled, but the movement woke him up. Halo rubbed his eyes and looked at Romeo as things started registering. He smiled at him and asked, “How are you feeling? Any pain? Should I call the nurse?”

Romeo shook his head. “It’s nothing I can’t handle. How is Juliano doing?”

Halo turned in the chair and looked at him. Grinning, he said, “Romeo junior was more worried about you than himself. The first thing he asked when he woke up is ‘Is he alive?’”

Halo turned to him and said, “And here you are asking the same.”

Romeo forced a smile, “I’m in pain Halo, don’t make me smile.”

Halo chuckled. He got up and kissed him on the lips. Looking into his eyes, he said, “Thank you, Romeo.”

He smiled genuinely this time. “It’s my duty as his father, isn’t it?”

Halo shook his head. “You didn’t have to.”

“I wanted to,” he answered.

“Why?” Halo asked him.

Romeo looked over at Juliano, answering, “I have done nothing for him as a father should, so isn’t this the least I could do?”

Halo nodded his head slowly. He sighed and said, “Well, rest up. Juliano and I aren’t going anywhere.”

Romeo nodded his head and pulled him on to the bed so that he could lie with him and they fell asleep.

Juliano opened his eyes on the other bed and smiled. He turned to them and mentally fist pumped, ‘Operation, get my parents together starts now!’
