Chapter 27: Dinner

"Hey, Iffy. I'm finally back."

I huffed and puffed as I began to walk back to her house. She turned to me with a look of shock. It was as if she was not expecting me at this current moment.

"You're here earlier than I expected you to be. So how did it go."

I walked into the log cabin before sighing.

"Terrible."

I said as I walked out of the pitch darkness to lay dead on her floor. I was like a fish out of water.

"So how many of those rabbits did you get."

"All twenty of them."

I huffed before turning to the side.

"Nice." 

She said before standing up.

'Wait...'

I thought as I stared up at her skirt.

'AHJAHSJHGHAJHGHAJHGAHHG!?'

My mouth foamed with spit.

"What?"

She said as she walked to my side.

"It's nothing."

I said as I wiped the spit from my mouth.

"Also, why are you standing up?"

I asked her before she began to chuckle.

"We are going to eat dinner."

She said and I followed after her. She led me to a small firepit that had been made right outside our houses.

"And I assume you made this?"

"Yeah. It was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be."

She said with a tone that reminded me of when I had created the window pane.

'Yeah. I can relate to that same pane. I mean pain you are going through right now.'

"Thankfully, It works. Somehow."

She said as she placed her finger at the bottom of the firepit. A little red flame appeared at the top of her finger and brushed onto the logs that lay at the bottom of the firepit.

"Wow! I didn't know magic could be used this way!"

I said shocked as she began to chuckle with a sly smile.

"You are talented but have a lot more to learn."

She said before I began to smile alongside her.

"Also, get 2 rabbits out."
I nodded before I got 2 of the rabbits out of my inventory and handed them to her. She grabbed a sharp stick and impaled the rabbits with the sticks. It was quite surprising and more so uncomfortable seeing such a cute creature impaled by a sharp stick. Or rather its remains.

'It's quite unfortunate that this is happening right now. But, sorry a girl like me just needs to eat!'

"Thankfully, you have managed to remove the blood from these rabbits."

She said as she began to put one kebab of rabbit meat over the flame.

"Though, you should leave a bit of blood next time. It tastes a bit better like that. It's kind of like steak. Though, I doubt that your world has steak."

"My world also has steak!"

I said as she stared at me confused.

"Interesting. Maybe I should give them a visit and see what kind of food they have there."

She chuckled.

"I never knew you were a foodie."

I said and she stared at me before laughing a bit.

"Of course! How could I not like food!? Someone who hates food is someone who must not be human at all! And perhaps could be a demon or worse!"

"Demons. Do demons exist?"

"Well. I don't know. I've never seen one. But they probably do."

I nodded.

"I'm just wondering if I were to fight an actual demon, what should I do to defeat them."
"To defeat them? Hmm... Good question. It's going to have to take me a long time to come up with an answer to this question. But it's going to be difficult to defeat a demon. But if you're going to be fighting a demon, it's best that you run away. It's not a loss as long as you and your friends survive the battle."

I nodded.

"Oh yeah. My father said something similar. The number one rule of life is running away really fast if something scary is approaching you."
I nodded once more.

"It's quite nice advice. But what kind of guy is your father? Just curious after all, you've mentioned him several times before. So it might be nice for me to ask."

"Well. My father is one of the strongest guys I know. Though, he's a bit too much of an alcoholic."

She said before glancing back at me.

"Thankfully, he isn't too drunk to do anything stupid. But if he were at that level of drunk, it would be a bit of an issue. One that I would have to resolve by enacting the number one rule of life. Running away from your problems! Especially in the case of my drunk dad!"

I sighed and she handed me a stick of rabbit meat. It was colored brown and had some small charcoal-like marks running up and down its skin. It smelt really good like bacon for some reason and had the slight smell of charcoal.

'It looks so good! But... Should I even eat this? There are a few burn marks on it. So I don't think I am going to risk it.'

I thought to myself.

'No. That might be rude. I should probably ask her if it's safe.'

"Uh. Did you burn this?"

I asked as I glanced back at her and she smiled.

"Nope! Not at all! But if you are scared about it, you could use that dagger of yours to chip off the burnt bits."

I nodded.

"Also, it tastes better when it's slightly burnt. Also, it's a bit hot so I warn you to blow on it for a bit."

I nodded for the fourth or something time this chapter.

'Yeah. I think it would be alright if I eat this rabbit's meat.'

I thought as I bit into the meat. My mouth began to water and salivate like that waterfall from earlier. I was losing all rational thought as a result of tasting this masterfully created dish. It was just heavenly. Way too heavenly! It's even better than those restoration berries I found at the waterfall!

"Wow. That's good."

I caught myself saying aloud.

"Don't worry. I can always cook trash for you if good food is something that you wouldn't want to eat."

I chuckled.

"I don't mean it like that."

"I know. But if you are hungry I can cook you wonderful food whenever you want."

I nodded.

"I would appreciate that, but you should be taking care of yourself too."

She smiled.

"Yeah. I'll be taking care of myself, so don't worry."
