The room was gloomy and spacious. It wasn’t far from the Konoha Police headquarters. Usually, it was the Police that managed it. But this time, following an exceptional request from the Hyuga clan, the Uchihas were only spectators. The one being on trial was none other than their leader, Fugaku Uchiha. As for the plaintiff, it was Hiashi Hyuga.

Many members of the two clans were present. The news had also spread throughout the village and everyone wanted to attend. However, access had to be limited. Sitting as judges were the Sandaime, Minato, the two advisers of Konoha and Danzo. The latter was the only one whose face seemed pleased by the situation.

“The session can begin.” The old Hokage said.

Danzo got up instantly and stood next to Hiashi.

“Fugaku Uchiha, where were you the night Hizashi Hyuga died?”

He didn't answer, his eyes remaining closed.

Minato stood up as well.

“Half of the people present here know very well where he was. Fugaku

Uchiha was in the same place as you and me, Danzô. This is also the case with many people present here…”

“Don’t waste your energy, Minato,” Fugaku said loudly. “I have already said it. I am guilty.”

A heavy silence followed his words, while a triumphant air lit up Danzo's face.

In the Konoha hospital, Mikoto opened her eyes. Her vision was a bit blurry. She only saw red.

“Hello, sleepyhead.”

Her eyesight was getting better as she got used to the brightness of the room. She understood that the red was Kushina's hair, who was leaning over her with a worried expression and a smile on her lips. Mikoto suddenly took her friend in her arms and hugged her tightly.

“You... You won! You beat him! I knew you could do it!”

“Stop Mikoto, you’re choking me, ya know.”

Mikoto released her grip, her eyes shining. Kushina sighed.

“I didn't win…” Kushina began. “You can call it a draw,” she added immediately, seeing her friend's astonished look.

Kushina explained what had happened, without mentioning the masked man. She spoke of the arrival of reinforcements and even mentioned Minato's dance, which made Mikoto laugh.

“By the way,” Mikoto said. “Did Fugaku come to see me when I was in the hospital?”

Kushina lowered her head. Mikoto's eyes twinkled.

“I see.”

“It's not what you think! He was under ANBU surveillance. He couldn’t go anywhere.”

“What?”

Kushina reluctantly explained to her what happened with Fugaku. Mikoto couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

“He took the blame... to protect me?”

“Seems like it…”

“What about his trial? When is it?”

Kushina grimaced.

“When?” Mikoto insisted.

“Now…”

Mikoto stood up abruptly. Kushina wanted to stop her but changed her mind. Just like her before, Mikoto did not intend to stay in the hospital… The Uchiha saw the young Naruto in Kushina's arms as she got on her feet.

Back to the trial, silence had given way to a commotion. The Hyugas attributed the murder of one of their members to the Uchihas, while the latter claimed that it was a setup to discredit them.

Minato sat back down, staring at Fugaku with a sad look, at the same time Hiruzen got up to ask the audience for silence.

Despite her condition, Mikoto was going so fast that Kushina, carrying Naruto, almost had to run to catch up with her.

“Mikoto, wait!”

“I will tell the truth.”

“Please…”

Mikoto quickened her pace. Kushina struggled to keep up. They arrived at their destination, in front of a closed door. Mikoto stepped forward. She could hear the hubbub in the room. She was going to open the door when an individual stopped her and Kushina. Both were caught and gently restrained by a very characteristic white hair that had grown out of proportion.

“Let us go, you pervert! Kushina then screamed upon seeing the man. “Otherwise, I’m going to yell!”

“Shh Shh Shh, it's not what you think,” Jiraiya said, visibly tense.

He glanced furtively in the direction of the room. Apparently, no one had heard Kushina with the noise inside.

“Jiraiya-sensei, Mikoto said, surprised to see him. ”Let me pass,” She added in a determined tone.
“No.” Jiraiya simply replied.

The noise suddenly died down, and Danzo's voice was distinctly audible.

“So it's a murder, a murder of an important member of the Hyuga clan. A murder that the perpetrator does not even deny, and of which he is not even ashamed. I think that settles the matter. Does anyone deny this?”

Minato sighed.

“Jiraiya-sensei... I killed him! It was me, not Fugaku. Fugaku... he's going to leave two children behind! Mikoto said, tears in her eyes.

“And if you replace him in there, do you think it will be better?”

Mikoto remained silent. Jiraiya sighed and approached her.

“Listen, Mikoto,” he whispered in her ear, while Kushina frowned. “I won't let him die. I'm a Sannin. My role is only symbolic, and I have no obligation, unlike Minato. That means I can do things without worrying about the consequences.”

With a sparkling look, he released his hold, seeing that Mikoto looked calmer. Then he turned around, turning his back on the two women.

“It would not be impossible for Fugaku to escape. Of course, it wouldn't be by legal means...which would make him a Nukenin, a rogue ninja.”

He walked away.

“Between us, I think it's better for your children... than losing a mother.”

Mikoto lowered her head.

“What did he mean?” Kushina asked, confused by the Sannin’s words.

Mikoto did not answer. She collapsed to the ground, in tears. Kushina rushed to her to give her some comfort and helped her up. They heard the sounds of seats being moved from the room and whispers of conversations approaching. Kushina accompanied her friend to a nearby bench where they sat as the crowd exited.
