I turned to leave when I heard someone calling out to me, and I turned around to see a young woman running toward me.
"Azriel, wait!" she called out as she got closer, and I waited for her; she was probably one of the villagers who wanted to thank me or something.
"Yes?" I asked as she came to a stop in front of me, slightly out of breath from running.
"My name is Eloise; my brother was one of the people who died trying to fight against the Infernal Demon," she said with tears in her eyes.
"Eloise…I'm sorry for your loss," I said quietly since there wasn't really anything else that could be said in this situation.
"Thank you… but that isn't why I came after you."
"It isn't?" I asked, confused since most people would want nothing more than revenge in this situation, so why didn't Eloise want that?
"No…I know that you are going to try and kill it, but I just wanted to warn you that it is very powerful and dangerous. Please be careful out there," she said as she looked at me with pleading eyes, and I could see the genuine concern in them.
"I will try my best not to die," I said with a small smile, trying to lighten the mood even though the situation wasn't really all that funny.
"Thank you…I hope that you can kill it and end this nightmare."
"Don't worry; I'll take care of it."
Eloise nodded before turning away from me and walking back towards her home; evidently, she had come out without a coat since she was rubbing her arms, trying to keep herself warm.
[We should probably get going if we want to find this thing before nightfall.]
Melty's voice sounded in my mind, breaking me out of my thoughts, and I nodded before starting to walk again. I had talked to a few people now, and it seemed that the demon was mostly attacking from the east side of the village, so we walked around the town and looked around the east side. I could see the damage, but it wasn't as bad as I expected.
"I thought you said that this thing had been terrorizing the village for weeks now?" I asked, and Melty nodded.
[Yes, but it doesn't seem to do too much damage when it attacks; it's almost like it is just playing with them.]
"That's not good," I muttered as we continued to look around and saw some burn marks on the ground heading east. "I think this is its path; we should follow it and see where it leads."
[Good idea.]
I started to follow the path, and Melty showed me an image of the demon in my mind. It looked like a large humanoid creature with black fur, red eyes, and large horns on its head. It was definitely not something that I had ever seen before, but if Fiona said that water would work against it, then I just had to trust her.
The further we followed the path, the more damage we saw; houses were completely demolished while others were burned down. There was also a lot of blood everywhere, but no bodies which was really strange.
"Where are all the bodies?" I asked out loud since this didn't make any sense; even if they were eaten, there would still be bones left behind.
[It's almost like they were teleported away or something…]
"That's not good," I muttered since that meant that this thing was probably stronger than anyone realized if it could just teleport people away without anyone seeing it.
We continued to follow the path until we came to a stop at a large crater in the ground surrounded by trees that had been completely uprooted and overturned. Melty transformed back, and we both looked at the burned and scarred hole.
"This is where it comes out at night," Melty explained as she showed me an image of the demon appearing in this very spot every night.
"I see… then we just have to go down and kill it, right?" I asked since this seemed the most reasonable thing to do.
"Yes, but be careful. I don't know how powerful this thing is." Melty said and then gave me a long kiss.
"Don't worry; I'll be careful," I said as I started to make my way down into the crater, and Melty became the glass sword in my hand again.
The crater was big and deep, and it looked like it went down for quite a ways since there wasn't any light reaching the bottom. It would have been pitch black if not for Melty's blade lighting up everything around me with a soft blue light as we continued to descend further down.
"How far does this go?" I asked after a few minutes of walking, feeling a bit claustrophobic in such tight quarters.
[I'm not sure…but we might be getting close.]
Sure enough, after another few minutes of walking, we started to hear something moving around in the darkness ahead of us, and my heart started to race even faster than before; evidently, this thing was already here, which meant that we had to act fast before night fell.

"I guess there is no point in being stealthy now," I muttered as I gripped Melty's hilt tightly. She glowed brighter so that we could see what was making the noise.
It turned out to be much more extensive than I had assumed, and soon we entered a big large cave with a couple pools of water, but there were no demons or monsters.
"Where is it…?" I asked, looking around the cave cautiously as we continued to walk forward slowly; my heart was still racing since I knew that this thing could be anywhere.
[I'm not sure…but be careful. It might be hiding.]
I nodded, my grip tightening on Melty's hilt even more as we continued to move forward until we heard something moving in one of the nearby pools of water. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the red eyes staring back at me from beneath the surface, and without thinking any further, I threw myself to the side just as something came flying out of the water towards me.
A massive centipede that looked like a dragonfly flew out of the water, and I barely had time to react as it smashed into the wall where I had been standing just a second ago. The impact sent cracks spider-webbing outwards, and chunks of rock started to fall from the ceiling.
I quickly got back to my feet, holding Melty in front of me as the monstrosity stared at me with its red eyes; it looked nothing like the creature that Fiona had described, which meant I had no clue what this was, but that didn't matter.
"Bring it on," I muttered under my breath as I prepared myself for battle, feeling my adrenaline starting to spike.
[That is an Aqua Dragonpede.]
Melty's voice sounded in my mind, and I felt a surge of energy course through me as I prepared to fight; I still had no idea what it was, but it was water, and I was kind of water, so this wasn't going to be easy.
The dragonpede chittered and hissed at me and then struck at me, but I hit it with my blade, and a ripple was sent out from the blade that distorted the aid. I was tossed back, but the dragonpede screamed as its whole body vibrated like the air. I got back to my feet just as it opened its mouth, and a jet of water was sent flying toward me.
I barely had time to react as I leaped out of the way, and the water smashed into the wall behind me, creating a large hole. The dragonpede hissed at me again before diving back into the pool of water, and I quickly ran over to where it had gone in.
"Come out and fight like a man…or whatever you are," I called out since I knew that it was still down there somewhere; there was no way that something that big could just disappear.
Sure enough, after a few seconds passed, the dragonpede flew back up out of the pool towards me with its mouth open wide, but this time I was prepared for it as I held Melty up in front of me.
The blade glowed brightly as a stream of water shot forth from Melty's tip straight into the dragonpede's mouth before expanding inside its body; within seconds, its whole body swelled up like a balloon before finally exploding in midair with bits raining down all around us. Those bits started to absorb into me, and I felt myself getting stronger from it.
"That was…different," I said after a few moments as I looked down at my placing Melty back at my side since the battle was over. "I'm not even sure what that thing was."
[It is called an Aqua Dragonpede; they are water demons that live in deep pools underground.]
"Are there more of them?" I asked, and Melty nodded.
[Yes, but this one seemed to be the biggest and most powerful.]
"I see…then we should probably get going before any more of them show up," I said as I started to walk out of the cave since there didn't seem to be anything else down here; whatever this demon was, it wasn't here right now.
We kept going deeper, and the paths started to fork, and more than once, we had to turn back around and take the other path. We must have been going in circles for a while, but eventually, we came to a large open area with a deep pool of water in the center. There was something moving around in the water, but I couldn't see what it was.
I carefully made my way over to the edge of the pool and peered down into the darkness, but this wasn't the Infernal Demon. It was a massive creature from a nightmare with six arms and more tentacles than I cared to count as I backed up slowly from the edge, but then it started to move, and I realized that it had seen me.
The creature let out a loud screech as it started to climb out of the pool after me, and I turned and ran the other way; there was no way that I could fight something like that by myself. It was too big, too powerful, and too fast as it chased after me, smashing through everything in its path with ease.
I quickly lost sight of it as I rounded a corner, but then its tentacles came flying toward me, wrapping around my body and throwing me into the air. The next thing I knew, I was flying through the air before crashing down into one of the pools of water with a loud splash.
I quickly swam to the edge, flinging myself out with Melty in my hand as I turned to face the creature. It was still standing there, watching me with its red eyes as it slowly made its way toward me; evidently, it wanted to play with its food before killing it.
"I don't think so," I muttered under my breath as I charged forward, and Melty glowed brightly as she cut through the tentacle that lashed out like a hot knife through butter. The creature let out a loud screech as one of its tentacles was severed, and black blood started to spray out as it vibrated from the wound, but that just seemed to make it angrier.
It lashed out at me with all six of its arms, but I dodged them easily before slicing through another couple of tentacles, making more vibrations; this thing was big and strong but slow, which worked in my favor since Melty allowed me to move much faster than normal.
The fight continued for what felt like hours, but eventually, we managed to wear the creature down enough that it couldn't fight back anymore. I finally stabbed its face, making it vibrate and explode, and I felt myself get stronger, but the pain drowned that fast.
"That…wasn't fun," I said after a few moments of panting as I leaned against the wall; my whole body felt like one giant bruise, and I was pretty sure that a couple ribs were broken.
[No…it wasn't. But at least we killed it.]
"Yeah…I guess that's something," I muttered as I slid down the wall until I was sitting on the ground; my whole body hurt.
