Chapter 19: Not Too Shabby

I just stood there for a long while, looking up at the massive castle... My massive castle. Sure, I had a large amount of debt, almost all humans seemed to hate me, and now I had also become a magnet for miscreant mistresses.

 

Not too shabby.

 

[Are... Are you happy about this?] Melty asked, and I could sense her curiosity.

 

[In a way... I think so? It is a lot to take in all at once, but Lord Lachlan was right. This is my castle now.] I finally answered after some time.

 

Melty was content with that answer for the moment as she transformed to stand at my side as we both turned our attention back to the stars. It was a beautiful night, but it was getting cold quickly.

 

"Come, it seems a chat with my Queen is long overdue," I said, and Melty transformed back into the glass blade on my hip. She seemed more comfortable in this than in her normal form.

 

[It is just cold out, and I need a good soak. I have never been one for the cold.] Melty said, and I chuckled as I walked back into my castle.

 

I walked back up to my room and then dropped Melty off, giving her a kiss so she could go soak. She told me on the way up that she needed to be able to go in the water at least once a day, so that was something that I would have to be considerate of in the future. There was a chance that it might affect my weapon, so I would have to be careful. 

 

I left the room and headed straight towards the Queens, or our throne room, where I assumed she would be, but she was not. I was also surprised that I hadn't seen Fiona yet. I headed to the library, and as I got closer, I heard the sounds of the two women talking, and it was about money.

 

"I don't understand why you are being so stingy. We are in a new place with a whole new set of problems, and we need to be prepared," Fiona was saying as I walked into the room. "Allgora is going to have his hands full just trying to keep this castle from falling apart."

 

"Fiona, we don't even know if Allgora will let us stay here after he hears what Lachlan is going to tell him when Azriel gets back!" Melodious said, her voice tight with worry. "Not to mention that our funds are running low, and if things go south here, then we will be out on the streets again."

 

    Both women turned towards me as I entered the room, their eyes wide in shock at my sudden appearance. Fiona was the first one to recover as she walked up to me with an excited look on her face.

 

"Allgora! You're back! How did it go?" she asked eagerly, and I couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm. It was good to see that someone was happy that I had made it back safely. 

 

"It went well enough," I answered honestly as I leaned against one of the bookshelves near the door. "I killed the Infernal Demon Lord Lachlan sent me after and then some." 

 

I wasn't sure why they both looked so surprised by this statement until Queen Melodious finally recovered enough to speak up again.     

 

"You... You killed it? Just like that?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. 

 

"Yes," I answered with a shrug. "I didn't have much trouble with it, to be honest." 

 

The two women just stared at me for a long moment before Fiona finally broke the silence again as she walked over and hugged me tightly. "That is amazing! You are incredible!" she said, her voice muffled by my chest. 

 

    I patted her awkwardly on the back before gently pushing her away so I could look down at her face again. She was beaming up at me with pride, but Queen Melodious still looked worried as she rubbed her temples lightly with two fingers.     

 

"What is wrong?" I asked concern etched into my features as I looked from Fiona to Melodious and back again. "Did something happen while I was gone?"       

    

The worry in Queen Melodious's eyes deepened as she sighed and turned away from us both to walk over to the window overlooking the courtyard below.

"You know that I lied to you. This is not my family's castle, but one that Lord Lachlan is renting to us while we wait for your arrival," Melodious explained, and I walked up to the window beside her and leaned over to give her a small kiss on the cheek.

 

She turned to me with surprise, and I smiled warmly at her, sliding my hands around her waist and gently pulling her into my chest. I had every right to be mad, but this was dramatically better. It reminded me of the first night that I had spent in the castle and sleeping with Melodious. 

 

"Why aren't you angry at me?" Melodious asked as she relaxed onto my chest, and I stroked her hair as I looked out the window.

 

"This is a really beautiful place that you found for us, even if we are just renting it. When Lauchlan was done talking, all I could think about was how he called us all monsters, but I am starting to see that Humans are really no better than most monsters. This is my debt and burden now, but this is also my castle, and you are my Queen. My job is to forge weapons and kill monsters, so I can live a comfy life in a castle filled with beautiful women. Not too bad at all. I think I am going to get used to this, and as for the debt? I am only going to get stronger as I absorb more Supernatural and Erotic Essence," I explained, and my beautiful Queen looked up at me, but she transformed into her demonic form.

 

"Do you still feel the same way?" Melodious as she looked at me with burning eyes, I didn't answer her. Instead, I leaned down and took her face into my hands as I kissed her passionately.

 

"I think that is a yes," Fiona said with a laugh, and we both turned to look at her as she leaned against the doorframe with her arms crossed. "But I don't think that is all Allgora wanted to say." 

 

Melodious blushed deeply as she turned back into her human form and stepped away from me, but I just chuckled softly as I walked over to Fiona.

 

"No," I agreed as I pulled her into my arms for a hug. "I also want to talk about Sasha the Were-Tiger, Kari, Kili, and Laura. They all seem to be new weapon prospects, right? Has Laura come to talk to you yet?"

 

"No, but that means that they will be waiting down in the servant's quarters, so I will go get them soon. What about the Were-Tiger? Why didn't you bring her home?" Fiona asked after she gave me a kiss and then stepped back.

 

"No money for cloaks at the time," I said, but Fiona frowned.

 

"Why didn't you turn her into a weapon?" Fiona asked, and I sighed.

 

"I wanted to ask you about it first. I didn't know if you needed to be there or not each time. She also goes into heat in the next few days at the full moon, but I think I might have to go back to feed her before that," I explained, and Fiona nodded.

 

"You are just going to have to plan your trips and get a mark out that way, or you can try going to explore in that area. To find a random monster to kill. You don't get paid normal bounties since you technically work for Lord Lachlan. Think of him as a real estate mogul, but he has his hand in almost all the major pots except for trading people. That is one good thing I can say about the man, even if he hates our kind. I assume that you run into a little bit of resistance with the village when you can come back?" Fiona asked with a sigh that I returned. “Also, I already enhanced your Erotic Essence, so you can do it on your own from now on, but I am always around if you just want to spend time with me.

 

"Yeah, you can say that. They didn't believe that I could do it when I got there, but when I got back, they were mostly all scared of me. Lachlan even called me a monster," I said tiredly, and Fiona nodded.

 

"You technically are, but a very human-looking one. The biggest difference besides the weapons is how you can absorb Supernatural and Erotic Essence. The Supernatural Essence that you absorb not only makes you stronger but it changes your body. You did not look this filled out when you left," Fiona said as she dragged her fingertips down my chest and then kissed me. "People are always going to see you as a monster, but they will also learn to respect you if they want you to take care of the problems that they can't."

 

"What if they don't want me to?" I asked, and Fiona just shrugged.

 

"Then you can always leave, but I think that you will find that most people will come to accept you in time," Fiona said with a smile as she took my hand and led me towards the door. "Now, let's go get your new recruits."

 

I stopped her and looked back at Melodious.

 

"Are you coming as well, my lady?" I asked, and my Queen nodded, walking over to join us, and I slipped an arm around her side as we started to head down to the servant's quarter. A beautiful girl in each one of my arms.

 

Not too shabby.
