Chapter 15: Chapter 14 – Bright Midnight

Aqua was a water hero and a strong one at that. That was what Aqua was thinking when he walked down the street with his costume on at midnight. An act many heroes with higher ranks than him dare not do as it is the fact that Aqua or his hero name, Aqua was a C-rank hero and he was about to meet up with some equally as courageous friends who were B-rank. He could barely contain his excitement. Aqua said

“Finally two people who understand my strength and both are just a rank above me. Truly they must understand”

Aqua was sadly considered low power even as a C-rank hero but he didn’t mind as they just didn’t see him try.

Aqua was happily walking along the street only to suddenly see a large inferno near a building in front of him, it was a bank and one of the biggest in the city. Aqua said

“Why did they make so many banks in a city full of superheroes?”

Aqua then saw in the distance the meetup spot, it was coincidently directly in front of the bank. Aqua ran to help but as he saw the inferno getting closer his legs slowed down, and down and down… He couldn’t move his legs in any other way than shaking. Aqua decided that if he couldn’t move his legs he would move his mouth before yelling

“RUN THIS WAY”

Suddenly around a corner two battered heroes were shot out in front of him, Aqua recognized them as they were the people he needed to meet up with. Aqua used his power and tried to make a dome of water but he could only get halfway before losing breath, he was already exerting his power. But Aqua decided to push on to save his friends he barely knew. Aqua, then unable to move his legs, made the dome form into a wave and pushed the two unconscious heroes towards him. Aqua looked down, they were burnt all round with bruises all over his body and their arm with twists and char. Aqua breathed in before suddenly seeing a monster

 

Flaming all over a large hand the size of a building popped from the corner, It was charred and lumbering but was still obviously under control, Aqua breathed in as he saw the large hand raise into the sky above a building, the one user of the hand was out of view hidden between buildings, but it didn’t matter as suddenly an eyeball popped out of the hands palm, it was quickly turning to ash on the arm but the little time it did have was enough as the eye looked directly at aqua before disappearing as if the palm closed its eye, then suddenly something Aqua didn't even notice attacked , the hands nails popped up like needles before dashing towards Aqua. Aqua in a panic decided not to use his power but to run. Aqua tried picking up the two heroes at his feet but sadly wasn’t strong enough, he tried one more time before closing his eyes and screaming…

Suddenly the flaming sharp needle-like nails that were dashing at him were extinguished. Aqua looked shocked. Was he over exerting his power? It didn’t feel like it. Was he experiencing a hallucination , no he still could feel the two heroes he had his hands on. Suddenly Aqua thought out loud

“Did I… get Hysterical Strength?”

But Aqua had no time to think as the nails that were  extinguished continued their path as they embedded into different surfaces, more specifically Aqua and his friends' bodies. Aqua was punctured all over as two nails hit him and only one hit both of his friends, the final one missed by a single inch. Aqua breathed in only to realize that his left cheek was punctured, he couldn’t imagine what would happen if the nails stayed ignited. Aqua sighed, the other needle punctured his leg so running vanished as an option. Aqua felt that the only reason he wasn't screaming in pain was adrenaline in his body. He then heard a small groan under him , it was one of the two heroes. Aqua asked

“Are you okay Thundering Legs?”

In where Thundering Legs said

“Im terrible but other than that how is Hover Man”

Aqua sighed and said

“Honestly I have no clue , you two have passed out.”

Suddenly Thundering Legs burst out saying

 

“RUN AQUA MAN.”

Aqua never told these two his real name and telling them it was Aqua now would be embarrassing, and secondly even if he wanted to run Aqua couldn’t so he stood up and said

“I can’t leave my friends behind”

Thundering legs smiled not realizing that Aqua physically couldn’t leave. Aqua then noticed the large hand move slightly until it finally passed the corner it was attacking from, it was far away but Aqua thought it was a thin woman walking from the corner only to suddenly see the woman shift and change into something horrendous as soon as she dug something strange out of her pocket and ate it. The woman became completely ignited before suddenly drastically increasing in size to hundreds and maybe even thousands of feet. Aqua shuddered as he saw the giant fire monster look him dead in the eyes, if he had to guess Aqua stopping the fire nails angered it. Aqua then seen the flaming monster stand up in a majestic fashion, it had a burnt body pulsing black then new white skin back to black ash. It was disgusting as the sound of burning flesh filled the city. Aqua made a nose plug of water just to stop the smell, the monster's arms were easily the size of an entire city block and the legs were as tall as skyscrapers. And when Aqua thought that was the worst he saw the head. It was pulsing from burnt to new like every other body part but instead of two eyes like a human it had a large singular eye with two pupils as if the monster's eyes were forced together into its current form. Aqua in fear made a spear of water and launched it at the monster's eye but it melted in seconds. Thundering Legs looked on in horror and the barely waking up Hover Man was still basically unconscious, it felt unwinnable. Just like Aqua liked it. Or that is what he would say if he was telling this story to his children but currently Aqua had no clue on how to defeat the monster only to see the eye of the monster suddenly shootout a thin beam from the eye except Aqua noticed it was an extension of the eye as if one pulled the eye with force as if it was cheese. Aqua could tell it was still part of the monsters eye due to one of the pupils being on the end of the flaming tentacle that stormed towards them, Aqua quickly tried making a wall of water spears only to measly make 3 water spears, Aqua then grabbed all three and raised them towards the eye flying at them only for the eye to curve around the spears and uppercut Aqua causing him to instantly see something pop off. He flew nearly ten feet in the air without touching the ground. Aqua then heard clatter beside his head. He turned to see only to see his own burnt jaw and mask. Aqua tried to scream but his bottom lip was gone resulting in a pathetic moan instead. Aqua’s jaw quickly burnt up due to the flame. Aqua turned back to look at the monster only to see it laughing, Aqua tried standing only to notice that the monster suddenly gained another pair of limbs. Aqua tried to stand only for him to see that there was a long line of fire on the ground , Aqua looked closely to see more burning flesh, Aqua tried backing away only to notice that the line of burning flesh had grabbed his leg. Aqua shot the flesh with water but it didn’t release. Aqua quickly made a sword of water and tried cutting but as soon as he cut the flesh it regenerated instantly. Aqua called out for Thunderous Legs but to no avail due to his lack of a jaw so he instead threw a small water bubble at Thunderous Legs

Thunderous Legs looked over and quickly understood, his legs became covered in lightning before he dashed over in an instant before a single quick downward kick cutting the flesh in half before a stream of electricity blazed through the bits of flesh all the way back to the monster. Aqua smiled to the best he could before making a moan of thanks. Thunderous Legs smiled before saying

“You are welcome, now let's get out of here alive”

Then Aqua nodded as he used his power and made a single spear of water and aimed before throwing it , it pathetically fell in a few seconds but Aqua used his power to control the water and made it fly forward at the monster, The monster responded in kind by pointing its finger and extended its arm forth and whacked the water spear into steam before touching its chest and opening it, ignited blood spewed forth like a sea of flames, Aqua looked at the still unconscious Hover Man and looking away as he tried making three bubbles for them all as protection against the blood but sadly he was to weak, Hover Man instantly were picked up by the blood wave and burnt to a crisp in mere seconds, Aqua couldn’t see Thunderous Legs through the flaming blood but hoped he was okay, the bubble was barely holding as he made both his and Thunder’s bubble as big as he could, the heat from outside were burning Aqua without even touching, Aqua felt sears on his arms as he groaned. His skin was physically melting  as the tidal wave went to cause rampage to the city behind, Aqua wished he could stop the wave but lacked the power. Aqua looked ahead as he heard screams from behind, he looked to the right to see thunder with extreme burn marks over his legs, Aqua thought that the bubbles broke but kept quiet. Aqua looked at the burning monster who seemed to be getting bigger every second, the only reason they were alive was due to Aqua’s water powers being a perfect match. The wave subsided as Thunderous Legs said

 

“The monster’s body is hotter the closer it is to the middle I think. We can’t beat it since your water will evaporate and my legs will melt before I can even kick it, much less do actual damage to it.”

Thunderous gritted his teeth as he said to Aqua

“We can’t beat it we have to run”

The monster seemed to have its back turned as if a group of heroes started attacking it, it was their best chance. Aqua cooled himself with water before doing one last thing. Aqua put his hands on the concrete street below and sent water throughout the entire street. Aqua then stood only to collapse , he had overexerted his muscles and had no chance to run, his face had lost its jaw and had a hole in his cheek as his right leg had a large hole in it. Aqua also had burn marks everywhere, specifically his left heel which was grabbed by the monster and seemed to like it was about to snap. Aqua looked at the monster in defeat from the ground as he looked at Thunderous Legs and somberly shook his head. Thunderous quickly ran over and picked him up before large sparks of electricity started blazing from his legs, Aqua passed out in his arms as soon as he was picked up. Thunderous Legs smiled and said

“You really are a great hero”

Thunderous Legs then started running on the wet street with sparks going through the water, it was to stop fire and also flesh from attacking them, it was perfect. Thunderous looked at the closest hospital and ran there but as soon as he reached the door he noticed a group of people dying of burns and electrocution, Thunderous looked away in shame, he had failed and he had made a new friend but at the cost of his old one. Thunderous Legs entered the hospital and said

“Help please”

Thunderous Legs knew that if the monster tried destroying the hospital it could but it was the only option because of the severe bleeding of them both. Thunderous Legs looked out the window to suddenly see the monster fighting something else giant, at first Thunderous Legs couldn’t tell what the monster was but upon seeing a large tentacle punch through the monster's arm he knew, It was a global hero from Iceland who was on the news for passing through. It was the hero Druid , he had a strange costume but could become any animal he could imagine made up or otherwise as long as he could envision an entire life as the animal, currently Druid was none other than an extremely large octopus with extra arms fist boxing with the creature but only to see that creature to regenerate any damage. Even powerless people could understand that he was fighting a losing battle but even so Thunderous Legs could see the people who had their homes burnt or were stomped cheering and yelling for Druid because they knew that he was the last line of defense.

The monster quickly shaped its arm into a knife and cut off Druid's left tentacles. Druid responded by quickly transforming into a large griffin and started dashing around the monster delivering powerful blows making large holes wherever he hit. The monster responded by expanding their flames to burn the griffin. Druid instantly had his wings destroyed and fell to the ground, he coughed up blood as a griffin but quickly changed into a cockroach to avoid detection, Druid then made distance in quick hopes before suddenly becoming a Hydra. Druid then shot acid , fire and ice all from all three heads but to no avail as the acid landed but was quickly nullified by the monster's regeneration and the fire seemingly combined with the monster's already large flame but the ice barely worked as it burnt into water and weakened the flames. Druid then quickly started shooting ice from all three head now with the sheer amount of ice the Monster was getting frozen but sadly it was not simple as suddenly a large pillar of fire erupted through Druid's chest, thankfully it missed any vital organs but Druid knew that the monster will be able to find his heart before freezing. Druid then jumped back and morphed into a basilisk as he slithered around the shattered buildings before entangling the monster and squeezing only for the monster to respond by increasing in size and causing Druid to compress against the buildings and the monster, Druid slithered away knowing that any longer and he would've been popped like a balloon. Druid then breathed in before becoming the loch-ness monster Nessie, he was now taller than any skyscraper he knew of but was still miniscule compared to the monster. Druid then started spitting water from his mouth to weaken the flame before becoming the Jersey devil as he darted at the monster still recovering its flame before becoming an elf and doing a clean kick to cut of nearly half the monsters waist but before it could recover Druid made a strange pink circle in the air before launching a spell that shot a beam to completely cleave the monster in two. Druid coughed up blood as he obviously overexerted his power switch between so many powerful creatures but thankfully the battle was over. Druid still as an elf raised his arms into the air expecting cheers only to hear screams. Druid then looked down and through the middle of his chest was a flaming nail. Druid coughed up blood as he looked behind at the completely reformed flame monster.  Druid coughed up again before bringing out his ace, Druid instantly became a large blue dragon and shot ice at the monster but sadly it didn’t work, the monster expanded the flame in its front to melt the ice and water before either could land. Druid then became an elegant yellow dragon and flew above the monster. Druid knew lightning aims for its fastest way to an object. Due to this Druid  had to make sure he was closer to the monster than any other object in the city. The monster expanded its nails and made them chase after Druid but he flew as fast as he could but pillars of flame pierced his wings causing seerings, but he continued flying. Druid then reached the top of the monster's head where the monster extended its eye out as it went in flames as it tried to smack Druid away but it was too late. Druid breathed in as he shot a beam of electricity onto the monster's head, piercing the monster and making a hole directly from the head to the bottom of the monster. Druid then was smacked off and plummeted to the ground the monster stopped moving as it froze, Druid was confident it attacked the monster's heart , brain and hopefully any organs that were oversized. Druid patiently watched hoping to see the monster fall but only to see the monster laugh, Druid was shocked only to see the monster point its arm to the sky before a stream of lava burst from the monster's finger covering the city for blocks before seemingly disappearing. Druid had won but the monster had the last laugh by destroying thousands of homes, Druid heard people running and screaming as he plummeted from the sky while in flames. Druid ached and thought he was about to die only to feel a large hand grab him and lower him to the ground, Druid looked up puking up blood to see an elderly man with a completely white left hand, he was smiling as he said

“Are you okay kiddie?”

Druid smiled as he finally reverted back into human form hesitantly, whenever he became human again he would get all the wound equivalents that he gained when transformed. Druid suddenly felt pillars of fire pierce his arms and legs and a large bruise attacked his back, searing it in the process. Druid also had burn marks throughout his entire body. Druid asked the man who had saved him

“Who are you”

In where the mind kindly said

“I'm a retired A-rank hero named Physical Ghost… Or you can call me Mr. William”

Druid smiled before sheepishly asking

“Please help me”

William silently shook his head as he made his left arm gigantic as he carried Druid to the hospital
