Chapter 16: Chapter 15 – Released

Thomas and Eagle were laying on  their hospital beds listening to the tv the doctor’s had told them not to touch. They were listening to a news anchor which said

“Breaking news from last night, first a gas tank explosion at a bank causing unprecedented damage , A terrifying incident from the global villain Masked and a large fire monster which attacked yesterday but was heroically defended by Druid, the global hero who has claimed that he is here to stay. All of this and more in Prodosia’s biggest news network LIFE IN PRODOSIA”

 

The screen then shifted into a screen which stated

“Recently some workers from collages and a police officer have disappeared all near the same location, could this be a villain in hiding?”

 

Eagle then asked

“What rank do you think the villain is?”

Thomas replied with a lack luster

“Maybe C or D if there is one at all, I mean in a city with supers and villains going wild and flourishing, two or three people disappearing is commonplace.”

Thomas then sighed as he heard steps quickly walk towards them before bursting open the door, it was the doctor. Eagle and Thomas had found out his name was Malcom. Malcolm said 

 

“As much as it pains me to say this to you both, you guys can go if you are able to make it outside, this is to test your stamina and leg strength. Now both of you leave and please don't come back for a week, I need a break”

Thomas quickly stood up and started to close the curtain between them as he got dressed , the doctor had left now leaving both Eagle and Thomas alone. Eagle asked

“Now that we are both healed to perfection and mentally stable may I ask you something”

Thomas responded with

“What is that something?”

Eagle put on his clothes and put his blue orb on his back before activating his power covering himself in armor before saying

“Can I have a rematch? I wasn’t thinking straight yesterday.”

Thomas behind the curtain said 

“No I’m busy”

Eagle then sadly looked at the shadow from the curtain only to see it vanish. Eagle quickly removed his armor before saying

“I will get stronger to beat you Thomas, both in the court and battle”

Thomas who was invisible still behind the curtain smiled and silently said

“I wish you luck, you ignorant kid”

Before jumping out the window and making a stair case of air all the way down to the ground

 

Eagle sighed before saying 

“I should go pay back the courtroom for that floor”

Far away was a class of kids all listening to their teacher, the teacher said

“Ok class since you are all about to reach your tenth birthday we need to go over some basic facts.
First as you all know almost all kids get their abilities at the second they turn ten

Secondly your power is like a muscle it gets stronger the more you use it but can be over exerted

Third, two opposing or identical powers will result in the stronger one overwhelming the weaker, a good example of water vs fire , if the fire is strong enough the water will turn to steam before it can douse the fire but if the water is in large quantities or cold enough it can withstand the heat.

Fourth, on rare occasions people may get their power days, weeks or years early or late but this doesn’t happen often but when it does it is usually very sudden. On extremely special cases where someone gets a power two years only they may gain an unique power but you don't need to worry about that

Fifth, someone in a life of death situation can get a boost in strength without any consequences like over exertion but this can only be obtained in life threatening situations. This is called a power pulse and is considered a once in a lifetime oppurtunity

And finally whenever you are less than a day before your tenth birthday you will be taken to a field to safely gain your power, this is due to the fact that when first obtained a power will be going crazy and may take hours to get under control.”

 

Now finally that was the lesson of the day, now every one its free time”

The kids shook their heads excitedly , after all they were all around the age of nine currently. One kid then said

"Why are you talking about life and death stuff?"

One kid with brown hair pipped up and asked

“Are we gonna celebrate Adelfi’s birthday?”

 

The kids all excitedly yelled because Adelfi was the oldest kid in the class and will be taking the next day off to celebrate her powers. The teacher said

“Yes kids and I brought a special price for this moment”

The teacher then took out two boxes of pizza before yelling

“Party everyone”

Adelfi got up, she was average height with black hair with a beaming smile as she went to grab a piece of pizza. But it was this exact moment that suddenly a large dark purple hole appeared in the middle of the room. Everyone was afraid and ran to the corners as the hole ate their chairs and desk. Some kids who were happily sitting down eating were now gone with no trace except a few plates that flew away. The teacher yelled

“Stay calm kids lets go open the door and leave”

 

The kid on the far left inched on the wall before reaching to grab the door but as soon as he reached the handle another door appeared and quickly sliced his hand off, there was no blood and his arm looked like that of an amputee. Everyone was in panic during this time but Adelfi was in the corner trying desperately to pull her left arm back as it glowed a faint purple. No one was looking at her as she was curled in the corner. The holes were getting bigger and the space near the walls were getting less and less. The teacher panicked as she said

“Timmy go open the window and come back and activate the fire alarm.”

Timmy tried opening the window but it was locked, suddenly Timmy lost his footing but a student beside him grabbed his arm before he fell. Timmy then pushed forward and smashed the window and tried leaving the building while getting cuts only for another hole to appear in front of him and swallow him. Everybody including the teacher was screaming. The teacher then grabbed a broom from a corner and started smashing at the wall behind her desperately in order to escape but as soon as she stuck the third time another hole appeared and swallowed the broom. All the students panicked as the teacher finally noticed Adelfi who was now sitting on a floating piece of ground seemingly missed by the hole. The teacher then yelled

“Adelfi got her power early!”

It was chaos as people started begging and crying. While others grabbed backpacks in the corner and took out objects to throw at Adelfi . It was bad until the teacher reached under her desk and took out a small taser and aimed at Adelfi before yelling

“I'm sorry Adelfi”

With tears the teacher fired but a portal appeared in the air and absorbed the taser blast, suddenly another hole appeared directly under the teacher causing her to fall and disappear. At this point some students accepted the inevitable as the left over windows would lead them to the same fate as Timmy. Some students started physically begging as others realized that in their last moments they could do whatever, causing some kids to gather together and push a bully into the expanding hole. It was the end for them all.

But then suddenly the power stopped as Adelfi tucked her left arm between her legs while she cried, they were safe and could leave but no one noticed as they were all crying happily for survival or in fear of consequences. Only for Adelfi’s right arm to raise and glow a faint red before another small but red hole appeared in the middle of the room. Suddenly a taser shot flew out at rapid speeds and hit a kid in the arms, The kid instantly knew that the purple holes were just the beginning as the red hole shot out the objects the purple hole had consumed causing pizza toppings to fly and large desks to start flying at walls, the students were to afraid to try running in fear of the purple hole returning so they all tried ducking and hiding, some were hit bluntly in the head by stools as some where impaled by pencils. It was terror until suddenly the arm that was taken from the kid at the door popped out sadly on the ground before shooting out Timmy safely, they all were happy until suddenly the teachers desk popped out and crushed Timmy's skull in a disgusting squish, popping his eyeball onto the ground, suddenly the teacher popped out the hole, barely muttering out

 

"I-i'm free"

 

Only for her taser to pop out and trigger shooting her directly in the head. After this the portal shot out the people sent into the hole forcefully or accidentally. Then the portal disappeared as if it was never there in the first place. The room was now scared stiff of walls surrounding them with blood and random school items , between them all was a now empty room with only a large pile of desks, pizza ,bookbags and people. Nearly everyone was crying in pain or horror. They all were too distracted to notice a small purple hole appear under Adelfi and make her disappear

 

Adelfi looked around after crying, it was a black void with stars loosely strewn about. The ground was full of blood and pizza toppings resembling the classroom. Adelfi shuddered as she fell to the ground only to realize that there was no ground. Adelfi was falling but she knew she could get up and move around, she felt as if the laws of the world were breaking inside the void. Out of interest Adelfi tried grabbing a star only for the stars to move away when approached as if they were thousands of miles away from reach while seeming so close. Adelfi shuddered as she looked around again. It felt similar to the feeling of closing your eyes. You know there is land and light but can't see it through the thin dark barrier of your eyelids. Adelfi focused as she tried getting out as she started running but to no avail. Finally after what felt like hours later she raised her arm up to the sky as if asking for help only for her arm to glow red before a red portal appeared in front of her. Adelfi looked around cautiously before looking into the red portal , after focusing she could see the places she had been that day , there was her home and school but the place that interested her the most was an empty hill with a tree on it. Adelfi jumped into the portal above only to start falling from the sky. She saw the red portal in the air now filled with the black void as she fell the short distance. Adelfi looked around , the hill was empty with the lone tree seemingly to welcome her. Adelfi started crying as she started saying to no one

 

"Sorry , I'm so so sorry"

 

Adelfi cried before she got up. She lied on the tree breathing as she lifted her arms up and looked at them in pain. Chell wanted power desperately but didn't expect this outcome. Adelfi looked at the tree before saying to herself

 

"I need to control this."

 

Adelfi looked at the tree springing out apples as she raised her left arm and aimed at an apple, a purple portal appeared under the apple, Adelfi tried again only to cut the top of the apple stem in half  by creating a portal on it, causing it to start falling to the ground , Adelfi tried catching the apple with a portal only for the portal to get placed a foot above the apple. The apple pitifully fell to the ground in a splat. Adelfi sighed as she breathed in and tried again. On the tree that seemed to look pitifully at her had the letters carved in

“A-A”
