Chapter 8: Chapter 7 – The Court is Now in Session

As soon as all four of them were seated a Judge calmly struck his desk saying

“Order , Order, Court is now in session. May our defense introduce themselves”

In which Eagle quickly responded with

“Eagle, Junior lawyer, I am the lawyer for this case”

And Jackal responded by saying

“Jackal defendant , Superhero name is Inferno Man”

The Judge gave a satisfied grunt before saying

“May the offense introduce themselves”

 

William responded by saying

“Senior Prosecutor William Mal , I’m here as a overseer to this case”

Overseer was a specific prosecutor who has been a superhero or still is a superhero, their job is to either guide the prosecution or protect civilians in the case of a rampaging criminal.
Thomas then stated

“Professional Prosecutor Thomas Pain, I’m here as the prosecution to this case”

At this small moment inside of the court case Eagle realized how bad of a matchup he is facing. He is facing the best prosecutor in the city and a senior prosecutor who has a nearly 90% success rate. Eagle before the case has even started, has lost all his willpower. Eagle then said in an effort to remove a little of his panic

“Are you the real Thomas Pain?”

Only for Eagle to receive a puzzled look from Thomas before both of them hearing

“Attention Attention, May the prosecution present their claims”

Thomas and William then took a light bow as they began to say

“We have two separate issues, one is the fact that during Inferno Man’s battle he destroyed excess amounts of property and it had an assumed cost of an estimated five thousand dollar fine for the property damage. Secondly the issue of Inferno Man using excess force on a group of thugs not only killing them and burning them to ash, this goes against the fifty commandments of a hero this qualifies as torturing the weak and ill prepared”

 

Eagle prepared as best he could for his first superhero case but as he looked around the court was empty unlike normal court cases, he ignored it trying to focus on his case. He had done multiple normal cases but he was still unfamiliar with more specific stuff like superhero laws and limitations but that didn’t matter to Eagle, he had studied for this case as soon as he had his arm recovered yesterday. The Judge then said

“Defense state your argument”

Eagle breathed in before saying

“After much looking over this case I have come to the conclusion that Inferno Man acted in a fit of rage after the thugs threatened Inferno Man with whatever was in the suitcase. The goal of my trial is to plead guilty due to extreme acts of taunting and lower my defendants time in prison and overall expenses''

The Judge looked happy as if the case was cut and clear so he said

 

“Call forth the first witness”

Quickly behind a door to the right of the trial area popped an old rigid man with scars all over and what seemed to be a large burn mark on his head. The old man stated

“My name is Ruff N. Ryged and I was there at the crime scene”

The Judge then said

“In order to shorten the necessary length of the case please present your testimony as soon as possible”

Ruff nodded as he started his testimony with

“I was walking on the edge of the street corner near the crime scene right before I heard the scream of a man not far away. As any reasonable person would, I ran to see a Inferno Man in the middle of a large pillar of flame, beside him were some thugs who threw down a closed suitcase with what seemed to be blood oozing out of it. Then almost instantly inferno man incinerated the surrounding area melting not only the thugs but the suitcase and surrounding property. Then like a normal person I hid in order to not be killed but while watching from behind the corner I seen the suitcase suddenly pop open showing a single bloody hand. Afterwards I saw Inferno Man fly down to the ground and closed the suitcase before picking it up and flying away.”

The Judge then stated

“Is that the end of your testimony Mr. Ruff?”

Then a small voice rang out said

“Yes sir”

Instantly Thomas said

“How many thugs were there?”

Ruff then stuttered out 

 

“Uhm.. three if I remember correctly”

Thomas continued the questions saying

“If the suitcase melted, how did the hand not melt?”

 

Ruff then said

 

“Maybe the suitcase protected the hand , I don’t know”

Thomas stopped the questions but had to ask one singular final question

“How could blood possibly be oozing out a suitcase if the only body part in it was a hand”

Ruff shook before saying

“Uhm maybe I was seeing things wrong and the red stuff oozing out was something else”

Thomas smirked as he had Ruff on the ropes before saying

“Then what could this substance be?”

Ruff wiped his forehead with his hand before saying

“I.. I. Don’t know.”

Thomas smiled then said

“Did you perhaps lie about seeing the red ooze?”

Ruff shrank as he was sweating beyond belief, he said

“...Y…YES I DID LIE!”

Thomas the smiled and looked at the Judge who stated

“Then tell the truth please”

Ruff breathed in a heavy sigh before saying

“It’s similar to the first story , I wasn’t lying when I said I was walking around a corner before I heard a man scream angrily. I ran to check it out but when I arrived I seen Inferno Man already in the air laughing as he attacked some thugs. While attacking the thugs I saw the suitcase melt slightly before popping open showing the hand. That’s the whole truth”

William gave a slight chuckle right before Thomas continued his assault

“If he was attacking the thugs how did he possibly burn the buildings near him?”

Ruff then said

“Well while attacking the thugs one of them pulled out a gun to try shooting Inferno Man but in response Inferno Man did his signature move and expanded a dome of fire which… then uhm exploded into balls of fire”

Thomas laughed out loud saying

“He used his signature move for a few thugs? Ha , are you sure”

 

The Judge looked at Eagle and said

“Are there any questions the defense wants to add?”

Eagle then shuddered as he grabbed his right arm and said

“No your honor”

The Judge then said

“Bring in the next witness picked by the prosecution”
