Chapter 9: Chapter 8 – Witness Gate

Somberly a single woman who looked to be in her early twenties walked in and stood and the witness stand the air held still as there was no one in the stands to speak. She then said

“I am Coarla, I have a body superpower called body improvement, I witnessed the crime.”

 

The Judge still seeming extremely bored kept a professional face as he said

“Ms. Coarla please present your testimony”

Instantly Coarla said her testimony

“I was walking to a local store near my house as I passed a left turn only to see three thugs seeming to make a deal so reasonably I used my power to increase my hearing. What I heard was loosely that the thugs brought something called skotati before telling a price that was in the near thousands of dollars and then I heard a different voice yell about how the price was too much only for the thugs to close the case before I heard a loud angry yell and an explosion. I checked the corner to see Inferno Man saving the day by stopping a drug deal but he used a lot of force disintegrating the thugs and landscape. If I didn’t have my body enhancement I probably would’ve died.”

Suddenly Jackal smacked the table angrily but as soon as he realized what he did he quickly hid his arms and said

“Sorry mam there was a bug”

Coarla continued her story

“After almost everything was destroyed he looked around and I hid only to see him fly above me while putting the suitcase on his back”

Eagle was now supposed to ask questions and defend his client but the case now seemed so cut and clear that it was all over and it was too late for a plea bargain since plea bargains don’t stop superhero cases. Eagle looked at Jackal only for Jackal to punch Eagle in his arm. Eagle blinked and shook his head before saying

“Mam did you see what was inside the case our are you assuming it’s a drug deal”

 

Coarla then said

“Assuming”

Eagle had a chance to pull the case back so he said

“How did he destroy everything around him without harming buildings or killing you?”

 

Coarla stuttered out

“Well I wasn’t looking at him but a sudden wave of fire spread through the streets , thankfully most of the buildings were made of concrete and I could protect myself”

Eagle then said

“How did you protect yourself if your ability is body enhancement?”

 

The woman then said

“I could expand my body but it still hurts a lot”

Eagle then said

“Could you kindly show us”

The Judge blinked a few times before shaking his head and saying

“Please present your power in the middle of the court”

Coarla then walked into the middle of the room before her body started to expand and expand into what looked less like a woman and more like a mass of muscle, it looked like a painful experience. Quickly the Eagle said

“That's alright miss you should stop now”

Instantly her muscles faded into a wincing Coarla who said

“It was a painful process that whenever I was burnt I could regenerate my body.”

 

She then rolled her sleeves up and showed her arms before saying

 

“I still have severe burns from that incident.”

That was the straw that broke the camel's back. Not only was the fact she had a solid alibi that lined up with the pictures but even gave proof of her appearance at the scene but even accused Jackal of another crime. Eagle knew that he now had to grab at straws

“Your honor she may have been at the scene so may we continue onto the next witness to make sure we have proof” 

 

Eagle thought that whatever story the next witness chose would decide the case. Eagle swallowed as he thought to himself that Jackal was undoubtedly guilty but he refused to betray his job so he pushed forward and hoped that the next witness would help but then Thomas who had been silent this entire investigation stated

“Your honor recently I presented some evidence that I wish to present”

The Judge then looked to a body guard who quickly left only to come back with a small trolley holding a brown bag on top of some napkins. Thomas then said

“This is a drug called skotati. It is a unique drug that has been making its rounds in the black market. It’s a powerful drug with a unique attribute of causing extreme short sightedness and anger, now Jackal I have a question for you. Does this seem familiar?

Suddenly every muscle in Jackal tensed some inhuman urge in him urged him take the drugs and run but he held himself back hoping that his lawyer could provide input. Jackal then said

 

“No, I have never seen that in my life”

Thomas smiled as he said

“Really well if so then you shouldn’t have a worry about the next witness”

Suddenly a burly man in a black suit appeared in the room, Jackal knew exactly who he was, Jackal then spat out

“How did you get him to trial”

Thomas smiled as he said

“Simply , We will lower his sentence as long as he acts as a witness, Now question Mr black suit do you recognize the name Inferno Man?”

And Thomas made sure to add

“And I mean as a customer obviously”

Mr. Black Suit said

“Firstly My name is Vlak and secondly yes I do recognize Inferno Man I have sold various products to him during my time”

Then Eagle interrupted by saying

 

“What type of products”

Vlak responded with

“Expensive and popular drugs like phomasine , skotati , trelos and orgi.”

 

Jackal then suddenly flew forward while blasting fire from his feet, he grabbed the product before expanding a large dome of fire, quickly as if expecting this response Thomas used his power to protect himself from the blast, multiple bodyguards flew in front of the Judge to protect him and Eagle quickly turned his watch into a thin layer or armor around his body. Eagle now found out why the court had no civilians except for the Judge. Quickly William jumped and extended his arm to completely encase Jackal before throwing him to the ground. William then pulled his arm up before slamming it into Jackal. The Judge gave a slight chuckle as he said

“I conclude that Jackal , superhero name Inferno Man, is guilty of not only excess damage but illegal deals with criminals, drug trading and excess force on a villain.”

 

Under the palm of William's arm Inferno Man had to use his most secret technique as he bit his tongue for a large plume of fire to burst out of Inferno Man. William slightly recoiled in pain but then suddenly a large explosion occurred directly under William’s palm. William held on the best he could but flames swept across the floor of the court and out the court. William pushed down harder before picking his hand up only to see that Jackal completely disappeared leaving only his clothes.

 

Outside the court the flames that exited the door and were preparing to die out quickly formed into a ball of pure flame before a small black silhouette appeared inside the flame. The flame then burst open into a fully grown man whose entire body was coated in flame. Jackal smiled as he said

“Sadly my hero mantel is over but my life of crime has only just begun”

Jackal looked back at the courthouse before pushing his hands together and launching a ball  of pure fire at the court only for it to explode and surround the court. Jackal hoped it would buy him time as he ran to his house. He ran before looking at his hand, it was a burnt crisp of his former hand but Jackal never felt as powerful. He smiled as he opened his mouth and rubbed his now purple crystal teeth together. He not only ate the drug, he fused with it.
