Breathing heavily, sweat bored down my body and I felt a burning sensation in my limbs.

But I ignored all of this and continued with what I am doing.

Which is running.

Rounding the corner on my left I came to stand in front of the left entrance of my home. Then once I did so I dropped to my hands and knees, a smile on my face.

Since today is the day I finally reached a goal I set for myself.

Run 100 laps around my family estate.

Accomplishing said goal feels good.

Feeling my arms about to give out I turned over and laid on my back, inhaling and exhaling heavily to get my breathing under control.

As I did so a shadow appeared over me.

Looking in its direction I saw it was Charlotte. A smile on her face she handed me the towel in her hands. Which I accepted without pause.

"Thank you, Lotte." I said.

I then sat up and used the towel to wipe the sweat off my body. Feeling refreshed after I did so.

"It is no issue, young master." Charlotte told me.

As she did so I frowned a bit. "Lotte, what did we talk about? When we're not in a formal setting just refer to me as Alastor."

Ever since I arrived in this world I've been trying to deepen my bond with Charlotte.

From what I have seen of the original Alsator memories these two have known each other practically since they were babies. Hence the nickname original Alastor gave Charlotte. However after making my own observations since coming to this world I can tell Charlotte does her best to keep the relationship between her and Alastor from getting too deep.

Basically Charlotte wants our relationship to simply remain that of master and servant. But that's not what I want.

No.

Instead I want us to become true friends.

And it's not just to avoid the bad ending of the original plot in the future.

Honestly after spending time with Charlotte I have come to like her as a person and wish to get closer to her. I don't just see her as a character from a videogame anymore.

At my words Charlotte made a face that looked like she swallowed a lemon. A far cry from her usually stoic expression.

I'll admit, it looks cute.

"Young master, I don't think that would be appro-"

Before Charlotte could finish speaking I stood up and then delivered a flick to her forehead.

"Kyah~"

Charlotte cutely cried. She then moved her hands up to her head where I flicked her.

"Why did you do that young ma-"

"-Alastor." I said, cutting her off. "Like I keep telling you, call me Alastor when not in a formal setting. In fact you can even call me by a nickname like I do you. How about Al?"

...

...

"Ok." Charlotte said. "...Al.." She managed to say. Getting a light blush on her face as she did so.

This skyrocketed her cuteness factor up to 11.

"Nice. Say it again." I said, a smile on my face.

"Al." Charlotte said once more.

"Again." I told her.

"No, I can't." Charlotte protested. Starting to fidget with her hands as she did so. "It's embarrassing."

"Come on, just one more time." I asked her.

"Fu, Alastor you bully." Charlotte spoke.

"I don't know what you mean." I said with a straight face.

Just after I did so Charlotte was about to retort. But before she could someone called out to us.

"Hey guys!"

Putting a smile on my face I turned in the direction of the voice I saw a young tiger beast-kin boy my age.

His name is Ferric Burzel.

His mother Seras is the commander of the knights in the Lindwurm family territory. She also happens to be a close personal friend of my father's, which is why I can call her aunt Seras without issue.

I met him shortly after arriving in this world. As it turns out he has also known Alastor since they were babies. But unlike Charlotte, Ferric tried to become the originals friend. However he wasn't interested. Still, Ferric never gave up. So when I met him I decided to turn things around and now we are friends.

Coming to a stop in front of us Ferric held out his fist in my direction and I pumped it with my own.

He then did the same with Charlotte, but she simply stared at it.

"Come on Lotte, just fist pump me once." Ferric asked her.

Since Charlotte never does so.

"I will have to decline." She said.

"Sure, that's fine. But one of these day it will happen." Ferric told her.

"If that is what you believe then so be it." Charlotte said.

Seeing the two of them banter I couldn't help but put a smile on my face.

I am truly lucky to count these two as friends.

"Ok, that's enough you two. Let's get a move on before we are late." I said.

When I did so the two of them nodded.

After they did we made our way to one of the many training grounds on my family estate.

Arriving at the field we were using today we found a person there, waiting for us.

He is an older gentleman dressed in a suit with short grey hair and a matching beard.

His name is Gerard Norg.

He is the head butler for the Linduwrm family, and has been since the time of my grandfather.

Turning his gaze to the three of us Gerard smiled. "Right on time you three. Excellent. Being punctual is a very important skill to have in life." He explained to us.

"Yes, we understand grandpa." Charlotte said.

Showing more emotion than usual.

Well it makes sense.

Since Gerard is her grandfather.

Even though they are not related by blood.

In the game all of the capture targets backstories were thoroughly explained in detail. Charlottes' included.

Abandoned on the street as a baby she was found by Norg and brought to the Lindwurm estate. Growing attached to the girl and never having a family of his own he decided to adopt her as his granddaughter.

It is a story that always warms my heart.

But it is also the reason Charlotte never fought back against the original Alastor in the game. He would repeatedly threaten Gerards' life, and so to protect her only family Charlotte suffered at his hands.

Releasing a mental sigh, I did my best to try and not recall what a truly horrible piece of shit the original Alastor was. As well make sure I do everything in my power not to turn out like he did.

Gerard nodded at Charlotte's response.

"Alright children, enough chatting let's begin today's lesson." He said.

Gerard then went over to a nearby pin and tossed each of us a wooden sword. Which he all caught easily.

Once we did he then started instructing the three of us on proper form and technique.

None of us complaining one bit.

Since we asked for this training in the first place.

Well Charlotte was already doing it. However Gerard had no issue allowing Ferric and I to join.

Which I am grateful for.

Because due to my foreknowledge of the plot I know exactly what kinds of shit awaits in the future. That is why to survive it I need to get as strong as possible.

Hence my running laps earlier.

That was part of my own self-imposed physical training regimen which I began a few weeks ago.

I have also begun looking into learning magic, weapons training, and martial arts as well. Gerard being my starting point. Since before he became our family butler he was a skilled warrior in the kingdom's army, and his skills have not diminished with age.

Of course I am still reading any books I can get my hands on, but just being book smart is not enough to survive in this world. I need actual real power as well. I don't want to rely on others to protect me. I want to be able to protect myself and the people I care about.

Not to mention I will be involved in the plot of the game whether I want to or not.

Trying to avoid doing so is utterly pointless.

Besides, why should I walk on eggshells and avoid people just because I know what sort of future awaits them?

My own presence here has definitely already caused several butterfly effects I'm sure. So really, I say fuck it.

Nothing I can do but charge ahead and carve my own future.

"Young master Alastor, straighten your hips more." Gerard spoke.

"Yes!"

"Young Ferric, put your whole body into your swing, don't just use your arms." Gerard spoke.

"Yes!"

"Charlotte, you're stepping in too much."

"Yes, grandfather!"

Following Gerard's excellent instructions the three of us dived head first into our training.

Smiles on our faces.
