The vampire with seaweed-like hair sauntered toward them. He grabbed a fistful of the female vampire's hair and lifted her.
"Ack!" She cried.
Raphael pulled out his wooden stake and positioned himself for battle.
"That's 'master' Cristo to you, you wench." Cristo hissed before breathing her in deeply.
Cristo sighed.
"I thought I killed you," Raphael said.
Cristo groaned and tossed the female vampire to the ground. "Listen, I don't want any trouble. Kekeke." He raised his hands in mock surrender. "Let me take this bitch, and we'll be on our merry way."
Raphael smirked. "No can do."
Cristo's grin instantly transformed into a frown. He opened his crescent-shaped eyes. "I wasn't asking, human."
"Same."
"Kekeke." Cristo held his stomach and laughed. "It's been a while since a human entertained me this much." He hummed and swayed back and forth. "So, you're the one who offed my brother."
Raphael shrugged. "He was pretty weak."
"Kekekekeke!" Cristo nodded. "Yeah, he's pretty shit, I agree."
"M-master Cristo!" The female vampire tugged on his sleeve. "L-let's go. W-we can just o-outrun hi-"
Quick as lightning, Cristo grabbed her head and pushed her face to the ground until the ground broke from the force.
"Shut up. Shut up. Shut up. SHUT UP!" Cristo kicked the female vampire's side harder and harder until the tip of his boot was covered in blood. "You're so freaking annoying. Why can't you just shut up?"
Raphael stared in horror. Weren't they on the same team?
Glaring at the vampire, he charged at Cristo and swung his wooden spike. He aimed for the side of the vampire's head.
With ease, Cristo dodged the strike.
"Hey." Cristo scowled at Raphael. "Wait your turn. I have to teach this bitch a lesson." His face lost all its previous mirth.
Raphael's chest constricted as the scent of decay hit him full force. "Ugh." He hadn't smelled such a strong scent before. The hair on the back of his neck raised.
This vampire probably killed a whole city's worth.
Cristo brought his foot up and smashed it against the back of the female vampire's head. "You see, she's been a naughty, naughty girl." He pushed her head deeper into the ground. "And you have to discipline naughty girls."
Raphael jutted his chin forward. "Were you the one responsible for her injuries?"
"Kekekeke." Cristo tilted his head. "And if I am? What are you going to do about it?"
Raphael tossed the wooden spike, smiling. He caught the weapon and readjusted his hold. "Nothing. Since you're going to die regardless."
Cristo pulled his head back and guffawed. "Me? Die? By a puny fly like you?" He grinned. "I've seen you fight before. You seemed to move a bit slower than usual." He tilted his head to the right. "You're injured, I see."
Raphael's tongue felt heavy. He shifted his position to pull his left shoulder back.
"Hah." He scoffed. Damn, this vampire was strong. Fear clawed down his throat, making it harder to breathe. He took a glance to the side. Were there other vampires?

"Relax. I'm the only one here." Cristo replied. He shrugged and put a hand in his pocket. "Since you're the queen's favourite pet, I'll make it quick and painless for you." He flipped the female vampire over, and her nose and lips were sopping with blood. "You hear that? Shall I cut his dick off for your keepsake? Kekekeke."
Hot rage filled Raphael's chest, burning away the initial fear. This was the monster he was used to dealing with. Not the monster that smiled delicately and cried compassionately.
"You keep calling that vampire a queen. Is she the vampire queen?"
Cristo spluttered, then howled with laughter. "Her? THE vampire queen?" With his thumb, he wiped away a stray tear from the corner of his eyes. "Human, for entertaining me, I'll make sure to kill you in one," he held up his forefinger, "second."
Raphael lowered his center of gravity. He scanned Cristo's form, searching for a weakness. In a blink, Cristo appeared right in front of him.
The vampire palm-strike his chest, but Raphael blocked using his left arm.
The force of the strike was enough to throw Raphael several meters into the forest.
Twigs and bushes collided and broke on his back until a wide tree trunk stopped his momentum.
"Kuh!" Raphael's breath was knocked out. He fell to the ground on his side.
Wheezing, he assessed the damage. 'Shit. My arm is broken.' He winced as he tried to sit up. 'A couple of my ribs are probably broken too.' He was lucky that his ribs didn't shatter and puncture his lungs or heart. That would've meant instant death for him.
He looked up. It was still nighttime—a time when vampires were the strongest.
Digging through his coat pocket, he popped off the stopper of a vial with light pink fluid. He drank it in one motion and waited.
Nothing happened.
Raphael tossed out the vial, and it shattered to pieces. "Shit." He struggled to get up. He was naïve. He thought he could conserve energy to return to the base before sunrise. But against this shitty vampire, he would have to give it his all. "Shit," he cursed again.
He took a deep breath and grimaced from the sharp pain in his chest.
Raphael emptied his mind except for the fight before him. Everything else will be dealt with later. After all, a dead hunter was a useless hunter.
"Oh Lord, hear my plea. Defend me from the evil temptation of my mortal skin." Blue light engulfed his body. "Roboro." The pain numbed, and he felt his strength returning.
The only drawback with the strengthening blessing was that the pain tripled the next day. Still, it was better than dying.
A low whistle echoed in the forest. "Hmmm, I guess I lied. It's going to take more than a second to kill you, kekekeke."
Raphael closed his eyes and focused on the vampire's location.
Snapping his eyes open, he whipped the wooden stake to his right.
A loud 'thunk' then silence followed.
Raphael clicked his tongue. He missed. Damn it.
The bush rustled before the vampire stepped out. "That was close. You could poke someone's eyes out with those."
Raphael might aim for the vampire's annoying mouth next.
"Now, round two." Cristo grinned. "This time, I think it'll take two seconds to finish you off. Kekekeke."
"You're shit at counting," Raphael said.
The grin vanished from Cristo's face. He cracked his neck. "I'm going to really enjoy this."
