Baby, You Were Born With It (Or Not)

When you were born human in your old world, you would have known that there are some things that you were born into. If you had been born into your new body, then you must understand that it’s the same thing: you might have been born with certain blessings or curses.

If your deity was not unnecessarily mean, you may have been given a decent face and a decent life. If they were gracious, you would have been giving innumerable blessings after leaving the shield of the mortal womb. If they were hellbent on making you their vessel or connect you to their divinity through sacrifice, you would have been cursed with a hard life of divine labor (i.e., you were born to suffer in order to train your ability and spirituality).

For those who came to their new forms later, you may discover all sorts of benefits or limitations that come with your new form. It may be in the form of a lowered social status, talent, or figure.

In some circumstances, especially those brought about by a system mechanism or came about their new form serendipitously, things were chosen, given, or taken at random. Some of these blessings or curses came about by the sheer numerical luck value you had in your previous life (well, if you were truly lucky you would have been blessed with an ordinary life and not have to suffer a life you did not choose for yourself such as this one).

No matter how you came about it, as a new inhabitant to strange body it is always better to do an inventory of what you have, lack, or need to develop. After all, how do you know what you don’t know when you don’t know what you know, you know?

This sub-section is dedicated to recognizing the blessings you have and dealing with the curses that may have also come about due to the machinations of an unfair god, a shitty system, or plain shit luck.

Please answer the following questions to gain an understanding of what you got and what you don’t:

  1. [ ] Y [ ] N       Do you have all your limbs? (All four human limbs)
  2. [ ] Y [ ] N       Do you have all typical human features? (2 ears, 2 nose holes, 1 pair of opening lips, 2 blinking and seeing eyes, etc.)
  3. [ ] Y [ ] N       Can you understand what is being said to you by the people around you?
  4. [ ] Y [ ] N       Can you follow the figures around you with your eyes?
  5. [ ] Y [ ] N       Can you differentiate your surroundings and the people who approach you?

These may seem like the most basic of questions but, we implore you to think of it this way: if you were a ‘normal’ human in your old life and suddenly you were put into the body of a slug, will you be alright mentally? Will you be able to adapt?

Those questions above set the tone of the book: Be grateful you are alive! Be grateful you are well! (As some gods have the very nasty habit of trapping souls into a cycle of suffering before putting them into  a new mortal shell believing it is training when in fact they are just breaking the very fragile mind of those very souls they hope to save their world.) Be grateful you are a villainess and not one of those Virgin Mother heroines from next door, or, worse yet, a hero from across the lane. I am telling you, this, a life of a villainess is not simple or easy but it is not one where you have to put up the pretense of being near divine. The greatest blessing of being reborn into a villainess, is you don’t have to pretend to be a good person all the time. In fact, you can play at being kind but you have to be the kindest to yourself.

We pray you reflect on the questions and statements above before proceeding.
