"It came in Aki. But, don't expect any more favors from me alright? I already pushed the rules for your sake. Be it healing you, giving you rights to [Neutralizer], telling you more than you should know, and requesting this...you need to make it on your own now. Well, I think you're overqualified for that though. You have the mana and will of hundreds of [Curses] housed in that small body of yours anyway."
Yoru handed me four circular pieces of metal that were designed similarly to [Neutralizer]. A silver hue and dim blue power surged through them coolly. This is the item I requested, from the technologically advanced aliens who sent the [Focals]. I'm surprised they even gave me anything since what I asked for was vague. I simply requested an item that could heal or prevent attacks on me.
This is the current way I fight, I use physical enhancement and mana manipulation to beat down my opponent. I've been fighting for a while so my moves and instincts are a lot cleaner than when I first started and I hope to keep improving them. However, in the case I receive an unavoidable attack, the consequences will greatly hinder me. It will weaken my attacks as well as reduce my ability to move and avoid more attacks.
To combat this, other than making use of physical enhancement to quicken cellular regeneration, there is no such thing as convenient healing magic. This can't be put into [Core Grenades] either. I can also make a barrier out of pure mana, but even for me, that's too tiring to keep up for long periods of time. If I try to make a barrier with an attribute besides Earth (which destroys the landscape and I'm bad at), then it will quickly lose form and spread out unless I force it together which takes even more mana. Anyways, I have no idea what the item Yoru was able to obtain for me, but it hopefully evens out my weaknesses. [Neutralizer] was able to combat my weakness of ranged battles so hopefully, this will be just as promising. Now, these four metal pieces look like...shin and wrist protectors.
"Uh Yoru, we have these on Earth you know? I don't think that they'll be much use against the strength of a [Curse]..."
"Don't worry, these protectors are sturdy like [Neutralizer] and adjust to your body shape. They're also light so your movement won't be hindered. I went for lowkey armor instead of a full-body because...that was all I could get. The guys over there are so stingy~"
"Don't be like that. I'm lucky I could even get my hands on this."
"A grateful one aren't you."
I equipped the protectors on my shins and hands and they comfortably snapped in pace. I feel like I could even wear these to sleep comfortably, and they don't increase the thickness of my limbs much either.
"So, how does this work? Are they really just normal protectors?"
"Watch this."
Yoru put his hand on a wrist protector...
*clink*
"Woah..."
Suddenly, a hexagonal barrier appeared in front of me.
"It's just like the ones you can make..."
"Indeed. These barriers are made with the properties of a certain substance inside those protectors. Well, I won't go into the details since it'll probably go over your head. Just know that the barriers can survive multiple heavy hits from [Curses]."
Still amazed at the floating barrier, I began to wave it around consciously. It followed the path outlined in my mind. Then, deleting it, I tried doing the same with my other protectors. The length from one vertex to another is about 2ft, and I can produce about 4 per protector close to my body. This means that I have 16 shield-length barriers that are movable by my will as long as I wear this (even as Akito). This is the best defense I could ever ask for.
"Thanks, Yoru."
"No problem."
Immediately thinking up of a strategy...I could use this for closer range [Core Grenades] or creating openings.
The schools will reopen and my 2nd-year of high school will begin shortly...I can't wait to see Ayame again. Wait, Ayame? Where was Ayame this whole summer? Usually, we'd hang out but I was busy training as a [Magical Girl]...
Ayame Suzuki is my childhood friend. From the time I was little and even till now we've attended the same schools. She helped me emotionally when my family situation became worse...how could I forget to check up on her?
Though I was in bed, I jumped straight up at the sudden thought. I hastily grabbed my phone and checked its messages, the last text from her was five months ago! She wouldn't have left me alone for that long, not that childhood friend of mine. No, maybe she got a boyfriend or someth...haha her? No way. Anyways, what would make her not pick up her phone for months? I can't think of a reasonable excuse. In fact, why did I only remember about her now when I forgot about her all this time? Uneasily, I call.
*ring*
*ring*
*ri--
"A-Ayame?"
"Yeah?"
"Are you okay?"
"Hm? Yeah, what are you talking about...?"
"I don't know, I just thought it was weird that we haven't talked in months...you'd usually call..."
"Ah yeah, that was pretty wei--wait you remember?"
"Remember what?"
"We haven't talked in months, right?"
"Y-yes...?"
"I'm coming over."
"Right now? It's pitch black outside though."
"Don't worry, it'll only take a minute."
"Huh? Are you close?"
"..."

Ayame's house should be way further away than a minute's walk. What's going on with this childhood friend of mine?
"Can I tell her that I'm a [Magical Girl]?"
"You revealing that would put focus on Aki's form which is linked with my specific powers which are linked to my identity as a super alien AI. This is forbidden knowledge! So, unveiling the fact would be a bit worse for me. Though I might be paranoid of the risk, probability blurs an even greater amount since I have not yet calculated whether or not she can be trusted."
"She's trustworthy, I promise that she won't say a word."
"Even if I have your word, I would like to see for myself. Also, right now I'm having a really hard time believing that she's a trustworthy person...she feels all kinds of suspicious."
"That's a bit rude."
"Look for yourself."
Looking outside the dark window, I see the figure of Ayame Suzuki coming towards my crumby apartment. She was the only one who faithfully supported me when no one else did, kind of like Yoru...she's important to me and I trust her a whole lot, as a friend. Well, Yoru might be suspicious but I definitely know that she has no secr--
[Magic-Based Physical Enhancement Formation: 100%-eyes] (allocating mana in Akito form for a split second depleting most of it)
This is a joke, right? Why can I see Ayame's body overflowing with mana!?
"I'm coming in."
She unlocked the door with her spare key.
"She feels somehow different from a [Magical Girl], this is bad news."
"What do I do? She suddenly starts acting strangely and is now looking like some type of hero with that mana!?"
"For now, I've hidden the mana presence of the [Core Grenades] lying around..."
"Thanks, as always."
Ayame entered without a care in the world and took off her shoes. Her actions feel cruder and more bold than usual...
"Ayame...?"
She grabbed my face with her two hands and pressed my checks together.
"That hurts..."
She glared intently at my average features for a bit and then released me. For a few seconds after that, she just stared me up and down. This is uncomfortable...
"What are you doing here Ayame? Couldn't you have come in the morning?"
"Why do you think I was gone for 5 months?"
Her voice was concerned and stern.
"Hmm...having fun with your new boyfri--"
*whack*
"Sorry."
Her face loosened a bit.
"I just thought something was off but it turns out that everything's perfectly normal. Sorry to bother you, Akito."
"Eh?"
She exited the room as quickly as she came and shut the door behind her. Though the room was unchanged, it was as if a hurricane swept through it.
"What was that about?"
Yoru popped up from my side.
"Who knows...but the magic formations engraved on that girl were even more advanced than our civilization's. I wonder where she obtained such a thing. Also, that magic power despite not awakening the mind should be unthinkable..."
"Earth to Yoru? You okay?"
"Yes yes, quite. I was just intrigued, that's it."
"Hmm..."
Now I have another thing to wonder about. What the heck happened to Ayame?
