Chapter 29: V2C14 – Witnessed

Rino Fujiwara POV:

After Ryosuke gathered his strength and killed [Arog] with great fortitude, he could no longer fight or call his [Heavenly Armament]. The best he could do was conserve his energy to endure the [Soul Breaking Phantasm]. Ayame, Yui, and Sato have fallen unconscious and we're all fatally injured. The situation looks grim since we have no way to fight back against the combination of [Asogus] and [Soviath]'s abilities with mana. We weren't allowed to escape or attack, we were one-sidedly pummeled to the verge of death by Vetheris. Such a thought stirred my insides and my heart began to break.

How could this have happened?

We weren't placed into too many life-or-death situations in [Orvinus] despite being heroes. It was mostly just training over and over. But, when an all-powerful enemy holds you down leaving no hope, what can you do? My friends and I lay on the cold school roof in puddles of our own blood. I felt the presence of tears dribbling down my face. I haven't cried in a long time, I worked so hard for it all to be wasted...

But then, our savior appeared.

Despite my mana detection not being active, I could still make out her striking existence. A girl with flowing black hair and endlessly dark eyes. She wore a subfusc expression that radiated beauty nonetheless. The [Ethereal Princess of Darkness Aki]. But, those weren't the immediately drawing features, it what she was wearing. A male uniform from our school. Did she steal that? I can't think of a reason why. Is she actually posing as a male student? I doubt that she can hide her voice, hair, and hourglass figure through just a uniform. If so, why is she...

Then I saw it. She's wearing a certain ring, one that I recognize from Sato's [Item Box] that was wasting away for a while. The oddly patterned jade-colored ring of the wind attribute that felt off somehow...was the one Ayame gave to her childhood friend, Akito Harada. Akito Harada. Akito Harada. Akito Harada...the one who I thought used magic at that time. An unremarkable young boy who fades into the background. He is the [Magical Girl Aki]. I looked up at his (her) valiant figure, and thought, 'How wonderful.'

My cheeks tinted a slight red and I saved the feeling into my heart. I will watch that figure until the very end.

Ai Nakano POV:

I strived for a normal life, I really did. No, I was contradicting myself...I ran straight after trouble. What do I really want to do...what am I really trying to be? I guess these questions come up when you're on the brink of death. Well, I lived a good life, I wanted a few more answers though...

In my dazed senses, I could pick up the faint sounds of battle. Is Ryosuke still at it? Heroes sure are strong. I turn my weary head with a glum expression and blood streaking down it to the side. My eyes opened wider and my body loosened somewhat.

"Ah, so that's how it is."

[Magical Girl Aki], a mysterious person I've only met once and heard of through rumors. But, I know that person well. The appearance of an apathetic youth pops into my head, the curious one. I mean, what else can I think when you're wearing the same tattered school uniform into battle. Well, you sure are putting on a beautiful show, Akito.

A small smile forms on my weakened face and I thank that boy wholeheartedly.

Hinami Hikaru POV:

"H...elp...me..."

I'm in a dark space. There is nobody, no light, no warmth...only pain. My tears carry no weight, and my body is housing a demon. That demon might kill my brother and his friends. That demon has trapped me in me. I want to get out. I want to be free. I don't want to hurt anyone, please. I cry out to the infinite landscape, even though I know my efforts have been meaningless many times...

But, my prayers were answered.

A bishoujo wearing a male high school uniform stood in front of the now fully aware me. My first thoughts were,

"Pretty..."

I couldn't feel the demon anymore and the sun poured in through the clean air. My tears reached somebody...the familiar girl in front of me with sharp black eyes and the air of a tragic princess. At ease, my body and consciousness began to fall as my tears dried in the fleeting seconds my senses remained.

I was saved.

Aki POV:

As the girl, known as Ryosuke's sister, shrank to the ground I let go of her once she reached a seemingly comfortable position. It must've been hard being possessed by another world's [Demon Lord] huh...

I look over my shoulder to see 8 of my bloodied classmates strewn on the roof. Well, doesn't this look...difficult. It seems Ayame, Saegusa-san, and Shiraishi-san are all unconscious while the others are staring blankly at me. Well, they attacked me straight up a while ago and I fled the last time. I guess I can't avoid them this time since they know I'm from the same school. Wait...shoot. I grab the ring on my finger and shove it in my back pocket, can't have the people it originated from seeing that.

Well, the male uniform is pretty suspicious already. The ones not unconscious began to stand up, albeit they had severe wounds and probably shouldn't have. No, they're using [Physical Enhancement] that I can see through my mana eyes...wait. The mana sealing barrier was lifted? Maybe it was connected to the [Demon Lord] I just took out.

Ryosuke just ignored me and rushed straight over to his sister's side. Yes, I like to see that, strive to be a good sibling. Let's see--Hayase-san has begun to heal the other members, so she's the healer of the group. Fujiwara-san and Ai are giving me complex looks and I don't know what to do with them. Finally, Tatsumi is just staring blankly with a stern furrow on his brow. 

"Yoru, can you heal these people?"

"Nope. Can't do that anymore, the higher-up's decisions."

"Alien civilizations are complicated."

"More so than you think."

"Anyways, I don't think that leaving now would be good for the mood. Let's stay here to answer them, I never wanted to fight in the first place. I also have a responsibility to interact with the people I save right?"

"If that's what you want. At least hide, that male uniform sticks out like a sore thumb."

I cover myself in a layer of fine black mana that obscures vision. I stood to the side as Hayase-san healed everyone and waited.
