Chapter 34: V3C2 – Aquarium Attack

"IS THAT THE REAL AI NAKANO!?"

I rush over to Ai and stand in front of her. She began to stutter...

"Uh, wrong person."

"No, that voice is the real deal...to think that I would get to meet her here."

The person who called out became suddenly flustered and bowed down to us.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to inconvenience you--"

He's actually pretty nice, is this the consideration of fans? 

"Ah, it's okay...but don't yell out like that in surprise next time. It stands out a bit."

Yeah, there are some people whispering amongst themselves after that now...

"Yes, I don't want to bother your private life Ai-chan...sorry."

"It's really fine."

"Then, we'll be on our way."

I grab Ai's forearm steadily and begin to drag her back to the Ayame and Arakawa-san. That was an experience.

"How aggressive."

She muttered inaudibly to Akito. When we arrived back, Ayame started lecturing like a doting parent, 

"Don't go off on your own too much Ai. You might have a disguise but it isn't that concealing."

"What am I a kid who needs supervision?"

"We just have to be extra considerate for your position. You should think about that more since your not just a normal high schooler you know? We also have a responsibility to stick together as a group."

"Yeah yeah I understand."

"Hmm..."

I changed the topic after gazing upon the jellyfish,

"So Arakawa-san, where do you want to go next?"

"Hm..."

She looked over at the map I was holding. Face close face close ahhhhh...

"How about we go see the coral reef area?"

"Oh, that sounds fun."

"Agreed."

"Let's see, it should be over there...follow my lead!"

""Yes!""

A single boy walking along with three beauties, am I living my youth...tell me tell me! Anyways, we went past the semi-crowded area side by side, making light conversation as we walked towards the coral reef area. This is a good cool down from being a [Magical Girl] and the recent events...

As we walked, my pace slowed to read the map better and before I knew it, I was walking alongside Arakawa-san. Ayame and Ai walked together in front. There was some distance so I could barely make out what they were saying. A vague sense of timelessness assaulted me as Arakawa-san spoke,

"Hey, Harada-kun."

"Hm? Something wrong?"

I subtly panicked after being suddenly addressed.

"This might sound like a weird and unrelated question but, what do you think of [Magical Girls]?"

"[Magical Girls] is it?"

"Yes..."

Is this related to Ai somehow...

Well, I think that Ai once asked me the same question, I guess girls are hooked on the concept of [Magical Girls]. I wonder if there are many that strive to become one, I wouldn't know. Well anyway, I gave her my answer.

"Well I mean, they're our saviors that should be praised for killing [Curses] right?"

"Saviors and praise huh."

"Arakawa-san?"

"Eh!? I'm okay...I agree."

Her expression is a bit forced, do I make her that nervous? Was my response weird in some way? I'd say I'm a harmless and approachable bug though...

"Akito behind you!"

Yoru suddenly shouted in my ear, that hurts...

I turn with sharp reflexes and put my hands up. With a clang, the sound of claws on metal ensued. In front of me is a [Curse].

"A spacial distortion calling a [Curse] right here!?"

Yoru can detect [Curses] from a distance but not unmanifested [Curses] who're about to appear in space ahead of time well. You could still say Yoru does a good job though.

"Kekeke!!!"

The ugly black [Curse] prepared a stance while Arakawa-san stood beside me grasping my lower shirt. The [Curse] is in the form of a griffin, another fantasy creature like that dragon. A griffin is a mythical beast with parts of a lion and an eagle. But, the winged creature here looks far from being majestic and just looks sinister.

Luckily, I was able to parry that initial attack with the protectors fastened to my forearms. But, how to fight it now? I don't want to have to [Transform] here in this crowded space since my cover will be blown. I look over to Ayame and Ai and...huh? They're also fighting the same type of [Curse] as me but on the opposite side? How troubling...

"No choice..."

There are cameras and witnesses all around, Yoru could do something about the cameras but not the witnesses. I grab the greenish ring from my back pocket and slip it on.

It's go time Sino

Yes, Akito-sama

Sino manifested from my ring and did a spinning kick midair producing a vacuum blade. As it soared across the aquarium, careful not to break the glass containers, the griffin's chest was cut on contact.

I'll leave the griffin to you, Sino.

I shake the confused Arakawa-san from me and rush towards Ayame and Ai. I can see that Ai has her spear manifested while Ayame is using her arms as blades...cool. The [Curse] they were fighting dispersed naturally after Ai used [Void Point] to completely erase its face, which must've also contained the [Core].

"Are you alright?"

"Yeah, still I--"

"Watch out!"

Taking Yoru's warning, I immediately threw a [Core Grenade: Dark Flame] at the sight of breakage. Another crack in space? This never happens...

I used [Hexad Barrier] to enclose the explosion, which it did perfectly. Hexagonal barriers are shaped in a convenient way for that reason. Anyways, after a burnt [Curse] corpse melted away...

"What's going on here? Sudden [Curse] appearances in the same spot..."

It seems Sino has finished her role and so I called her back to the ring. Without rest,

*smash*

A part of the aquarium roof fell, luckily there was no one below.

"What the--"

A giant [Curse] dragon peered in through the hole, what is going on with this aquarium? Looking around, I see most of everyone has evacuated. Well, at the sight of a [Curse] a normal person would run for their life. A normal person...

"Arakawa-san! Get out of here!"

"W-What about you guys!?"

"We'll be fine, just go!"

She trusted our words reluctantly and bolted away. The dragon's presence must've played a role too.

"Alright guys...

[Transform]

let's do this."

I look to the dragon with my mana enhanced eyes. It seems one area has denser mana than the rest, the [Core].

"Ai, the dragon moved its [Core] to the lower left part of its neck."

"Got it, I'll use [Void Point] to end this quickly! Hoooraaa!"

Ai pushed energy into her muscles and pushed off the floor at superhuman strength. Aiming for the lower-left neck,

"Yaa!"

[Void Point]

Her silver spear pierced the area with ease and the dragon's existence started wavering. Soon enough it poofed into frail dust.

"[Magical Girls] sure are something..."

"Let's go hero."

"Alright, Aki~ [Physical Enhancement]"

We all jumped through the hole made by the defeated dragon [Curse] and gained a vantage point on the roof. When we were all settled, we set our sights on the city. What exactly is happening?
