“Is this fried chicken? Although I know about it from memories of others and related knowledge…it’s truly delicious!” Leme, who had disappeared during class, had materialized as soon as food appeared -- during lunch time.
“Fried chicken…I haven’t eaten this kind of commoner food for a long time. At the Amasaki house, this kind of thing would never be put on the table.”
Next to Leme, Mio had placed a table next to Kazuki’s and was eating another boxed lunch that Kazuki had made earlier in the morning.
Behind his seat, Koyuki was eating her boxed lunch alone.
At first, Kazuki had invited her over, but she had rejected him with a single -- cold -- word.
Even though Mio’s words seemed to be mocking the fried chicken, she was happily eating it. Saying that she was reluctant to eat, had made Kazuki feel frustrated. This dish was something from his memories from the orphanage.
Every time she would place a piece of chicken in her mouth, Mio’s expression would soften.
“...It was extremely well-made. Thank you.” Koyuki said quietly from behind him.
“Koyuki, thank you. But, since you have said such words, you should come over and eat with us! Don’t just whisper your thanks from behind.” Kazuki said, turning his head around.
Koyuki only responded with: ‘Don’t look over here.’ and turned to one side.
A black skull flew into the ring. It wasn’t from Koyuki…but from Mio. When he turned back to the front, Kazuki saw that Mio was glaring unhappily at him for some reason.
“Oi, even though I am eating with you, don’t turn back and desperately request for another woman.” Mio looked away, “…Forget it! We, the Magic Division, do not require swords! You are an E-Rank, who specializes in swords…Kenshi-Ryuu style is useless.”
Kazuki was surprised by her sudden change.
It was the same when he had introduced himself, she seems to be specifically targeting his sword arts, the Kenshi-Ryuu. He was a little surprised that she knew the specific style that he practiced, but it was also likely that she had sources…however, while Kazuki didn’t mind when she put him down -- he really hated it when someone put down his family’s style.
“Since you actually said that…Do you think that I will remain silent forever?” Kazuki responded, struggling to keep his temper.
Mio revealed a provocative expression.
“Our king, compared to this foolish Summoner -- you are much stronger.”
Beside the silent Kazuki, surprisingly a different voice rang out. It was Leme.
“...W,What?!” Mio was shocked, “You powerless Spirit.”
“There is no need for Our King to use Leme’s power to deal with people like you. If you doubt it, you can try him. Isn’t there a system called Dueling in this academy?”
“Hey, Leme, what are you saying?” Kazuki turned to the proud-looking girl beside him. “You lost your memories, you shouldn’t know anything about my techniques. Please don’t just say careless words.”
Leme stared directly at Kazuki, “Indeed, Leme doesn’t remember much, but I can still understand. Although I don’t know why I chose you, but because you are a person that Leme chose -- you cannot be weak. And although I have only been with you for a single day, but I fully understand your character. If you said that you have spent your life honing your sword techniques -- if that is the case, then you are definitely not useless!”
She then leaned closer to him, whispering into his ear, “And that girl, Amasaki Mio, truthfully, she wants to duel you and lose.”
“...What?”
“Well, it’s more accurate to say that she hopes that you are a strong person. This is why she argues with you, and why she keeps trying to goad you into a fight, by insulting your sword style. This is for positivity levels, so go and show off to her.”
“...In the end, it was still for that.” Kazuki sighed.
“More importantly, weren’t you also wishing to fight and show that your Kenshi-Ryuu isn’t useless? Leme and your heart are connected, so I know what you are really desiring.”
Leme smiled and gently knocked on Kazuki’s chest.
“That is true,” Kazuki felt the familiar desire to hold a sword in his hands again, “Indeed, it is time to let these people change their thoughts about the strength of swordsmen.”
“Oi, you two, what are you guys secretly talking about?” Mio asked.
Kazuki stood up, “Amasaki Mio. I request a duel with you.”
He had spoken loudly and everyone in the room heard him -- their eyes all widened in shock, Mio included.
“Uhh, you say a duel…but you can’t use Summoning Magic, right?” Mio asked, her voice subdued -- but a slight undertone of excitement was building.
“I will only fight with a sword. If I win, I hope that you can take back the insults you have said about the Kenshi family.”
Hearing his words, Mio’s expression changed.
“As expected, you still have a longing towards the Kenshi’s sword techniques! Even though you are already a person of the Magic Division, like me. Okay, I’ll accompany you!”
The originally frozen classroom began to get loud as everyone began speaking simultaneously.
“You -- are still the same as before…” Mio whispered quietly.
“What did you say?” Kazuki asked.
Just then, a red heart appeared from Mio and was absorbed into Kazuki’s ring.
A red heart? Is Leme correct? He couldn’t help the thought that ran through his mind.

“Nothing, you E-Rank! I’m looking forward to when school ends!” With these words, she rushed back to her own seat.
“You said it well, Kenshi Kazuki.”
When Kazuki sat down, Koyuki’s voice came from behind him.

“A duel request? Kazuki, Mio?” Kaguya murmured with wide eyes as she looked at the application that the two of them had brought to the Student Council. “Really? Kazuki, even you can be reckless sometimes, huh? The duel has different rules from the reckless scuffles that Kanae participates in.”
“Has Kanae dueled the Magic Division students?” Hikaru asked, turning to Kazuki.
“Formally…no. Although Kanae has wanted to, but because it won’t influence their Ranks, the students of the Magic Division always turn her down.” Kazuki responded
“Ahh, so if that’s the case, then Mio shouldn’t know of what kind of battle it will become between Kenshi-Ryuu and Summoning Magic.” Kaguya murmured.
“There is no need to duel, and you would still know, idiot.” Mio inserted.
At the same time, Kaguya finally realized that the two of them were completely serious.
“W, Why did it become such a tense relationship?”
“No, I cannot give in. As long as my adoptive father’s sword arts are looked down on, I cannot tolerate it.”
“Why…are you so serious about Kenshi-Ryuu? Even though you are someone from the Magic Division!”
At this time, someone broke through the Student Council’s door and stormed in.
“It’s time to completely defeat someone, Older brother! I have heard of the matter, as expected from Older Brother!”
“Ah, Kanae? Why did you come to the Magic Division?”
Kanae completely ignored Kaguya and rushed directly to Kazuki.
“...So, it was like this. Older Brother wanted to rampage inside the Magic Division so as to prove the strength of Kenshi-Ryuu. In other words, a spy inside the Magic Division! Such foresight, even I didn’t think of it. Because my duels were always rejected! However, after you have taught everybody in the Magic Division a lesson, please transfer back to the Knight Division.”
“How is that possible, idiot.” Kazuki said, rolling his eyes and used both hands to firmly pull at Kanae’s soft cheeks.
This caused Kanae to let out a strange noise.
…
“President! As expected, you are here. Please do not suddenly rush out while we are having a meeting.”
The person who appeared through the broken door was the student from the Knight Division, Torazou.
“Oi, Kanae, don’t skip work and come over here for your ‘bro-con’ act.”
“It’s not like that! Indeed, I wanted to see older brother to the extent that I was trembling…But that isn’t the purpose I came her for. Older brother, this is for you.” Kanae said, handing a simple longsword over to Kazuki.
He had left his beloved sword at the Kenishi family home and had therefore been planning to ask Kanae or another student from the Knight Division to borrow a different sword.
“Yes, this is older brother’s sword! Because she had the suspicion that it would be needed, I had secret brought it to the school. This is such amazing foresight, please praise me…then, please fall in love with me!”
Kazuki’s favourite sword, a simple -- unadorned -- longsword. It sat in a brown leather sheath, bronze-coloured wire wrapped around the hilt -- in the tradition of his adoptive family. It was given to him by his adoptive father when he had reached mastery of the Kenshi-Ryuu style.
The moment he held it in his hand, the familiar feeling filled a hole in him -- that until that moment, he hadn’t even realized had been there.
“Older brother, older brother, please praise me. Then as a reward, please kiss me?”
“Don’t get carried away in front of everybody in the Student Council, idiot.”
Looking at Kazuki and Kanae’s interaction, Hiraku and Koyuki revealed surprised expressions.
“The Knight Division’s President doesn’t act like Kazuki is only her brother. What is going on?” Kaguya murmured.
“...Some perverted kind of play, right?” Koyuki replied.
“Hmph, let’s begin. Bring it on!” Mio said.
“Fine.”
“W, Wait a minute, I have not accepted the request yet!” Kaguya shouted, trying to interrupt.
The duel must have permission from either side’s Student Council.
“If you do not accept it, then I will! Older brother, good luck!!”
--With the Knight Division Student Council accepting the petition to duel, a special duel began.
