“With your Magic Power, it’s impossible.” Loki remarked with a straight face…before suddenly shuddering slightly. She quickly looked to the side for a second, before looking back at Kazuki in front of her, “Damn it…not now! Kaya…Just a little longer!”

 

Kazuki didn’t notice the strangeness, instead -- he embraced his rage and shouted a Chant.

 

“...Self Burning!”

 

With his remaining Magic Power, Kazuki covered his body in an armour made of orange flame and condensed the rest into the blade of his sword.

 

With a well-practiced movement, Kazuki sprinted towards Loki. As soon as he was in range, he unleashed a slash -- using Psychokinesis and Fluid Manipulation, he moved the flaming armour from his body and condensed it around his blade.

 

“What?” Loki let out a surprised voice as she watched the flaming blade approaching her chest.

 

Her thick Defensive Magic blocked the attack -- before the blue radiance shimmered strangely and then vanished. The end of Kazuki’s sword cleanly sliced into Loki’s chest, spraying blood.

 

“Damn you, Kaya!” Loki cursed, shuddering.

 

Kazuki had fallen to the ground, exhausted, and Loki kicked him away.

 

My strength is lacking…For a long time, I didn’t think I need an overly strong power…

 

“Stay away from Kazuki, or I will finish you myself!”

 

Loki raised her head.

 

Kaguya had mustered the last of her strength, slowly squeezing out the words of a Spell -- succeeding in containing the disappearing Asmodeus in the world.

 

“This Summoner…she can keep a Spirit’s Manifestation alone, and in that condition?!” Loki was shocked.

 

“Do your best, Kaguya! This guy is pretty bad news, so let’s kill him!” Asmodeus cheered, chucking.

 

“Seventh Hell, come out…!” Kaguya managed to wring out the words, barely holding onto her consciousness.

 

“Like hell! This body is rebelling…I can’t fight you properly!” Loki let out.

 

The ground under her feet split and a huge snake suddenly burst out. Only, this snake had the face of a human, who grinned at Loki.

 

It was the Illegal Magic User, Earth Snake.

 

This surprise disrupted Kaguya’s concentration.

 

…

 

“Oh, you are Midgardsormr…the World Snake. I see. You have Materialized as well, huh?” Loki asked with a wide smile.

 

She clung to the snake and laughed.

 

“It was fun playing with you, Summoners! Too bad my host still refuses to kill the boy!” She reached out and ran her hand down the scales of Earth Snake’s large back, “Get out of here, my child!”

 

“Land Escape!” The snake’s voice was harsh, sounding inhuman.

 

“I’ll remember you, human…no, Solomon’s King! I’m acknowledging you! I shall include you in my Ragnarok.” Loki shouted, winking at Kazuki as she gave a small wave in his direction.

 

Before Kaguya could invoke her Magic, Loki and Earth Snake sunk into the ground and passed out.

 

After waiting, seeing that Kaguya had passed out -- Kazuki lay on his back and watched the surroundings.

Destruction that was hard to comprehend spread out in front of Kazuki’s eyes. The ground’s surface was deeply gouged, clouds of dust and sand filled the air -- the spectator stand was destroyed, looking like a ruin in a desolate land.

 

Kazuki stood up, dazed.

 

The ground under his feet was wet with crimson liquid, Mio lay there with her uniform dyed red by her blood. She was bleeding more than Kazuki thought was possible -- it wasn’t only the sunlight that was dying everything red.

 

He could hear the sound of an approaching group of Knights.

Kazuki knelt beside the mortally wounded girl, holding her limp upper-body in his arms. Her eyes were half-closed and her breath was becoming intermittent.

 

“Why, for someone like me?” Kazuki whispered, not expecting a reply.

 

But, some light returned to her hazy eyes and she laughed faintly, “…Tha, that’s because, you see…”

 

With every agonized breath, her colourless lips quivered.

 

“Honestly…I’m so happy that I could meet you again.”

 

Hearing those words, an intense lump of guilt swelled up in his guy, his heart filled with pain.

 

“...I was so happy. Glad I finally got a date with you…” Mio’s eyes closed and she inhaled for a final time. “…I wanted…to kiss you on the lips…”

 

That was her final words.

 

I couldn’t protect her--

 

A girl who felt love for me, I was powerless to protect her.

 

He let out a wordless shout.

 

In his shaking view, blurred with tears -- he saw Mio’s necklace, the one that matched his, reflecting the setting sun. The feather-shaped necklace…Pheonix.

 

The symbol of destruction and rebirth, the Immortal bird.

 

“Leme…once said.” Kazuki muttered, his emotions surging wildly, a blind hope building rapidly.

 

He cradled Mio, raising her.

 

Without hesitation -- he pressed their lips together.

 

It tasted of blood.

 

But, at the same time -- the Stigma on his left hand began to radiate heat. A powerful bond formed between them, Mio’s Spells flowed into his mind -- followed by Phenex’s Ultimate Magic: transcending fate…the power to take back what was lost.

 

Kazuki began shakily chanting.

 

<<In your current condition -- you don’t have enough Magic Power.>>

 

Orange light spread out -- orange, the colour of Mio. Phenex spread its wings behind Kazuki, materializing.

 

The Divine Bird let issued a warning with a low voice. Just like the legend of Phoenix, this Magic will burn the target to ash, and from the ash -- one will be resurrected, reborn once more. The Caster’s Magic will be completely consumed.

 

The Caster would be Emptied, their consciousness falling into Animus Mundus.

 

If Kazuki cast this Spell with his lacking Magic Power, it was entirely possible that Kazuki would fall so far into Animus Mundus that his mind would disperse and he would completely disappear.

 

“My mind…I don’t care what happens to me.” Kazuki murmured.

 

“If that’s so, then fine…Oh King, recite my Incantation.” Phenex responded.

“...Revive!”

 

As soon as the chant ended, Kazuki could feel his everything being absorbed -- Magic Power, his Mind, his Soul. The world distorted and Kazuki had no idea what happened afterwards.

 

--Mio opened her eyes.
