"I didn't expect you to have found your mate, Uncle." Shane Dagger, Rollo and Shia's third child, appeared in front of Serena.

Shane squatted in front of Serena, his face directly in front of the little girl's. The young man was built like a typical human teenager. With a cheeky smile, he appeared naughty and annoying.

Serena pushed her face back. Shane's bravado irritated her.

"Keep your face away from her face!" Cameron said as he grabbed Shane's face and pushed him backwards.

Serena and Cameron exchanged glances. “You’d better teach your nephew to be polite to women, Mr. Dagger!” Serena took a step past Shane, who was sitting on the ground.

"Your mate is so annoying!" said Shane as he got up and walked behind Cameron who was also walking beside Serena.

Cameron sighed and rolled his eyes. “Don’t you realize you’re more annoying than my mate?”

Serena frowned as she turned her head to face Cameron. When he saw Serena’s puzzled expression, the man laughed softly.

"No, I'm not annoying. You already know how much the female werewolves and human girls adore me. Like you, I'm pretty well-known around here!" Shane chuckled proudly.

Cameron sighed, Shane’s attitude was similar to his father’s, too self-assured. Cameron cast a glance at Serena, who was still on her way somewhere.

“Where are you going?” Cameron wondered.

“Get out of the crowd and run away!” said Serena softly. Her gaze was drawn to the scouts who were still keeping a close eye on her and the two werewolves nearby.

Cameron stroked the nape of his neck, then stopped and made Shane, who was walking behind him, bump into Cameron’s big back.

“Ouch, what the hell was that Uncle?” moaned Shane, holding his nose.

“You better get home, Shane, I’ve got business with my mate!” Cameron turned around and gave Shane a flat look.

“Huh?” Shane’s eyes widened in confusion as he looked at Serena, who was still walking past the sellers and buyers in the center of Mona City’s crowded market.

"Did you hear me, Shane?" asked Cameron as he girded his loins and looked at Shane with a piercing gaze.

"Oh, yeah okay," Shane replied quietly. There was a reluctant look on Shane's face.

“Go right home and report to your mother, or else…” Cameron smirked. “…you know how your mother is, right?” Cameron threatened.

Shane's hair stood on end. "Aye," Shane replied, bowing like a warrior to his superiors.

Shane dashed through the crowd to the city gates. He didn't want to be punished by his mother, who is known to be pugnacious, especially when she is pregnant. His father could also intervene in his punishment.

Cameron snorted in annoyance at his niece's behavior. He went back to walking while following the scent that emanated from Serena's body. This morning, while awake he still smelled Serena's scent. However, it felt very strong and close.

Cameron leaves his house and attempts to follow the scent. Unfortunately, he meets Shane, who is having a good time in a brothel. The teenage werewolf appeared by chance while embracing two women and laughing heartily.

Cameron noticed Selena walking towards a shop from a distance. The man frowned when he looked Serena’s brown eyes were drawn to an object in the shop window.

“Oh, Tears of Artemis.” Cameron noticed a brooch with dark blue gemstones accented with silver and blue ribbons at each corner of the water drop-shaped gem.

“This is one of my jewels.” Serena grimaced as she noticed the jewel among the others. “One of my favorite jewels, given to me by Helios on my tenth birthday.” Serena turned and walked away from where she was.

Cameron remained silent for a moment before following Serena. “Would you like it returned?”

“No.” Serena answered Cameron’s question quickly. “I was reminiscing about the past, I just didn’t expect to see the jewel again after six years of selling it for our travelling needs.” Serena’s voice sounded shaky.

“So you’ve been moving around?” Cameron couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

Serena cleared her throat, agreeing with Cameron’s question. “Nowhere is safe for an imperial fugitive, Mr Dagger.” Serena sighed.

Suddenly the autumn wind picked up again.

Serena closed her eyes and blocked the dust carried by the wind from entering her eyes. Her red hood came off and Cameron saw tear marks on the cheeks of the woman with the form of a little girl.

“Looks like Old Jack is coming sooner than usual!” complained Serena as she put her hood back on.

"Jack Frost?" frowned Cameron.

"Well, we're supposed to keep going west. The weather isn't cooperating, and I believe Old Jack will be passing through the Minas forest. This time of year, the possibility of a blizzard is quite high." Serena responded by rubbing her cold-damaged hands. "That's why we have to take a break while we prepare our supplies for the winter." She blew on her hands to warm them up.

Cameron sighed and smiled as he removed his robe and placed it on Serena’s petite frame. Then he took the little girl in his arms.

Serena looked at Cameron, puzzled.

“They’re still following. Not now, if you want to return!” Cameron said softly.

“Hm.” Serena coughed. “So, Sir, where are you taking me?” Serena inquired, her hand on Cameron’s shoulder.

Serena’s heart was racing more quickly than usual. Although the situation had been tense previously due to Gerald’s presence, Serena’s mood was calm enough to notice how muscular and firm Cameron’s body muscles were this time.

When she saw the man's lips from the side, her face flushed. Serena was ashamed of the pleasure she felt from Cameron's kisses and caresses on her body after recalling the immoral incident they had in the castle the night before. Also, the tension of Cameron's body touching the lower part of her belly separated by her skirt and the werewolf's trousers.

‘Oh, my God!’ Serena muttered as she covered her face with her hood.

“I already asked you to call me, Cam!” complained Cameron with a sigh.

Serena gasped as Cameron’s voice broke her reverie. Her brown eyes and Cameron’s blue eyes locked. Those blue eyes were kind to her. Those eyes, like a cloudless sky, shone with the sunlight. So warm and friendly, like a spring, filled with the world’s hospitality.

"Until they can't follow you anymore," Cameron responded while keeping an eye on his surroundings. Several scouting legions were still keeping an eye on them from afar. "They're stubborn enough for just one fugitive!" Cameron expressed his dissatisfaction.

Serena laughed softly. "I'm no ordinary fugitive, sir!"

Serena caught Cameron's eye. "Well, you're special." Cameron's smile made Serena's face flush like a new rose.

"Because of this power?" Serena said softly.

Cameron glanced at Serena. The little girl's face looked grim. Her face was like a crumpled cloth because of the burdens she was carrying.

"Fate has implied that you must accept it gracefully. Perhaps there is something you should do with your power."

"Well, Sir John always says that," Serena replied with a smile. "It's just that, because of this power many have died protecting me." Serena looked down, a gloomy aura emanating from her body. "There were even those who betrayed their knight's oath just because they wanted power." Serena sighed.

Serena bowed her head while covering her face with her hood. A glimpse of the past made her reject Cameron's presence in her life

"You've got a tough past, Serena!" Cameron patted Serena on the back. "Either with your confidants, or the other racess that helped destroy your kingdom, but... unfortunately you felt it too, that sting?" asked Cameron.

"Yeah, is that a sign that we're mates?" asked Serena innocently.

"Yes it does, it's just that... it seems impossible for us to be together!" Cameron smiled and furrowed his brow. "It's okay that you reject me, I won't force you." Cameron sighed.

"Why?" asked Serena. There was a sense of sadness in her heart as Cameron allowed her to let go of the man. Serena should have been happy if the man let her go so easily.

Cameron looked at Serena. "How can a pair of souls be together, if they can't have each other whole?"

Serena was silent. They were just strangers brought together by fate and bound in a relationship called marriage or union for werewolves. Fate often played unfunny jokes, matching up a pair of creatures who did not know each other.

"From the beginning, I didn't expect a mate in my life!" Cameron smiled. "I'm too old to be in a relationship like that! That's why I didn't expect you to accept me as your mate!" Cameron smiled sadly.

Serena coughed. "I'm trying, to forget the horrible memories I have of your races!"

"Good girl." Cameron smiled broadly. "But, stubborn enough to call me names." Cameron made a wry face.

Serena laughed softly. "Cameron?"

"Yeah like that." Cameron smiled widely. "Isn't it hard to say my name? Do I need to change my name if you have trouble saying it?" Cameron teased with a laugh.

Serena laughed at Cameron's teasing. "No need, Sir... er Cameron! I like your name, Cameron the Crooked Nose." Serena laughed loudly while hugging Cameron's neck.

"I better change my name!" Cameron laughed sadly while hugging Serena's body. "Looks like my name will be the butt of your jokes one day, Selene," Cameron whispered.

Serena's laughter stopped when Cameron mentioned a name she had long forgotten. Then she hugged Cameron tightly. "I haven't heard that name in ages!"

"Do you hate it? I mean, don't you like me calling you by your old name?" Cameron smelled the scent of Serena's body as she held her close. It was a little faint from the scent when the little girl was in her true form, but just a little scent turned him on.

“No, I never hated my name, Cam!” replied Serena while leaning her head against Cameron’s broad shoulder. Cameron’s masculine scent wafted strongly in her nose, making Serena very comfortable in the man’s arms.

Cameron smiled, while continuing to pat Serena’s back like a baby who needed extra protection.

Meanwhile, Thomas and Ruth watched them from afar.

“We’d better not approach them just yet, it’s too risky. Let’s go home and report to Sir John what happened.” Thomas turned round and go from where he was standing.

Ruth sighed. Then she followed behind Thomas.

“Split the troops in two, Terecia. Keep an eye on the man and keep searching the forest and town.” Gerald who was watching Cameron and Serena from afar gave orders to his subordinates.

“Aye Captain!” said Terecia then she gave instructions to some of her men and they immediately carried it out.

“It’s too dangerous to capture Princess Selene if she is indeed the mate of Cameron Dagger.” Gerald complained while massaging his forehead.

“White monster?” said Terecia while placing her right hand on her waist.

Gerald cleared his throat, agreeing with Terecia’s words. Then, his eyes looked towards Cameron and Serena who were chatting so intimately.
