Several days have passed. My pocket isn’t getting heavier. It’s not my current objective anyway. I am more concerned about improving my livelihood and, after that, myself.
I have been getting stronger, so bathing and fishing are on the table. After placing my dirty clothes on the shore, I realise they too need to be cleaned. Dipping myself in the cool water, I feel much better. Cleanliness is a type of comfort as they say.
Just when I was about to get out of the water, a few fishes swam into my field of vision. Their meat looks worth the effort.
I wait for them to approach. Wild animals are sensitive, they could detect your heartbeat vibrating ever so weakly through air or water. It’s crucial to keep your heart at ease. This technique, I believe, is called hiding one’s intent by other schools of martial arts.
It takes a long time, but the fishes eventually approach my strike zone. My intention was to slap the closest one out of the water.
My hand moves quickly and produces a small water column at the location of the targeted fish. Sadly, I didn’t make it.
This body is still far from keeping up with my control. I attempt several more times before giving up entirely. I stay in the water long enough.
Wearing my change, I head back home to hang the wet clothes. There is plenty of time till sun set, so I decide to go to the city.
I have regained up to seven tenths of my strength as an eight-year-old. That’s enough to do some jobs. I hope there is somebody in need of labour. I have no expectations of getting employed today, but finding job isn’t an easy feat and is best attempted as soon as possible.
I walk around the streets, observing the daily life, until I run into a group of kids. There are seven in total, two of them are girls.
“It’s crybaby!” The tallest and best dressed kid pointed at me.
“It’s crybaby Yun An!” The other kids break out into laughter.
They know me. That’s confirmed, but I have no idea what is so funny. I have never been good with kids and I may never be able to understand them, but one thing I am sure, they are getting annoying. I ignore them and continue.
“Hey! What’s with that attitude?” The same tall kid yelled. “Filthy brat. Not even know courtesy to greet people.”
What the heck is this kid talking about? He noticed me before I did, but he didn’t even greet me. In that case, it means he didn’t want to meet me. Greeting is only when two parties want to communicate with each other. That’s how courtesy and social conducts work.
I have a stomach to fill, so they can take their nonsense. I keep walking without a care.
I don’t know what happened behind my back but one kid, the smallest boy, runs ahead and blocks my path. Whenever I try to move left or right, he intercepts, showing his jerk smile. When I push forward, he shoves me back, clearly didn’t care if I would fall.
The others caught up and are now blocking my way.
“I am not in the mood to play with you. Make way!”
“Oh, I am so scared.” Then the entire group starts laughing.
“Ok, everyone. If Lil An didn’t want to play with us, we shouldn’t make it hard for her.” It’s the same loud mouth that started this poor joke.

“But, third young master, she was very rude.”
“She just needs to apologise for it, my father says we must all be compassionate.”
“You are so compassionate, third young master.”
He turns toward me and spreads his legs till they are a shoulder apart. “Here you go. Just crawl over.”
So that’s their “apologise”.
I give them a stern look. “I will say this again. MAKE WAY!”
The rougher boy in the pack get impatient. “Stupid girl. You want to be beaten again?”
So this is not the first occurrence. These unruly kids have been bullying Dong Yun An for a while.
I step toward him, grab his collar, and throw the boy over shoulder in a heartbeat. These kids are the stupid kind that words alone hold no meaning to them.
While the kid is flailing on the ground, the three other boys charge at me.
I quickly give each of them a fistful of my feeling and reduce them to wailing messes. The two girls are visibly frightened at how the scene unfolded.
“This stupid girl.” After some kinds of weird movements, the tall kid produces a flame-like thing of yellow color to cover his fists. “I am a genius that has reached the realm of martial arts. As a noble martial artist, I will teach you a lesson.”
The weird thing the kid conjured is one thing, but the nonsense from his mouth hole is even more confusing. They clearly came to harass me, in number, and now he talks about “noble” and stuff.
“Yes! Go teach that stupid girl a lesson, Asan.”
In response to the girl’s cheering, he dashes toward me. His movement held no evidence of studying martial arts. He is just a boy that wants to try a new toy. The aforementioned toy here is that special ability of his. Technically, I don’t know if it is unique to him or not. Anyway, it’s time to end his roleplay.
I don’t know what this Asan boy was expecting, but he must be quite shocked to see me grabbed his hand by the wrist just inches before it could reach my chest.
“Uh.” His face quickly distorts. “AHHHHH! LET GO! MY HAND. IT’S HURT!” The yellow flame thing disappears. I was taking thing too seriously after seeing it so my grip was unconsciously not as “nice” as when I treated those my age.
Tears and snots begin to decorate his ugly face. Not wanting to dirty myself after the recent bath, I let go.
The girls are nowhere to be seen.
While the boys are crying on the ground, I disappear into the curious crowd. All these adults here, and none wanted to stop a group of kids from bullying a small girl. Can’t blame them. I know a few poverty-stricken regions where people only care about themselves or their family.
