[ POV Change ]

As I followed the mysterious woman, I couldn't shake off the ominous warning from the murals. What did these powerful individuals want with me? The woman, Biyu, suddenly said, "You know, I'm surprised a mortal like you was able to survive living with a demon beast like the fire blood centipede."

Her words filled me with anger as she was responsible for killing my pet, but I knew I needed to hold back and wait until I was ready to confront her.

Despite my silence, she tried to make small talk, "You don't talk much, do you?"

I remained quiet, causing her to sigh and whisper to herself, "And this is what I get for trying to make small talk with a recruit."

As I walked through the halls, I noticed that the inside and outside of my prison room were identical in appearance. The only difference was the bright lights that stung my eyes and the humid air that irritated my skin. To my left were numerous open rooms, and the hallway seemed to have no end in sight.

I walked behind the woman to the next room, approximately twenty steps away.

The size of my room was only about three square meters, so the walls must have been very thick, which was why I couldn't sense the presence of others.

Glancing into the next room, a putrid stench filled my nostrils. It was the smell of decaying flesh. The environment was eerie and oppressive, filling me with a sense of unease.

I found myself in a dark room, surrounded by the decaying remains of several bodies. The putrid stench filled the air, signaling that decomposition had already set in. I couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness as I saw that one of the bodies was that of a young boy, similar in age to myself.

"It's so sad," Biyu remarked beside me, her voice laced with a melancholic tone that I couldn't trust. "Looks like he couldn't endure it any longer."

I couldn't see the boy's face as it had collapsed, but I could tell from his build that he was around my age. I wondered if he had been imprisoned here at the same time as me. Biyu began to move through the room, and I asked her, "Why did this happen to us?"

She stopped and turned to me. "Because you're special," she replied enigmatically.

I took a deep breath, feeling close to shouting for answers, but I managed to control myself. I couldn't help but think that Biyu seemed to know her way around this place all too well. Was she trying to send me a warning?

As we continued down the hallway, I saw that each room held the same grim scene. In each one, there was either a boy or a girl, all similar in age to me, who had died of starvation. Unlike me, they weren't able to endure the hunger, and their rooms were as humid and mossy as mine. I could only assume that they weren't able to adjust to the darkness and failed to notice the moss growing around them. A bowl of rotten food was placed in front of each door, but they had probably been picky and left it untouched.

Biyu and I continued down the hallway, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I was about to uncover some dark truth about this place and my own supposed "specialness."

Twenty rooms passed. And twenty bodies were also found. One corpse per room soon reached the end of the hallway. There was a large iron door blocking the hallway. The iron gate was much thicker and larger compared to the ones that blocked their rooms.

The bolts of the gate were also taken out.

Biyu pushed the door lightly and the towering iron gate opened slowly.

Beyond the iron gate, the same hallway where I had been imprisoned continued, and again, twenty iron gates were lined up in a row. The only difference is that there was only one survivor in my area, but in the new section, there were as many as two survivors here.

It was a boy and a girl who seemed to be of the same age.

They looked in the direction where Biyu and I appeared with wary eyes. Judging by their actions, it seemed that their eyes were not perfectly adapted to the darkness like mine.

Beside the two stood a heavily clothed man wearing the face mask of a wolf.

My eyes narrowed, this man was much more dangerous than Biyu, I  could feel it in my gut.

The man turned towards Biyu and said," Looks like you found a single survivor."

" I could say the same, Xiao Fei," Biyu answered back with a sly smirk causing Xiao Fei to huff.

As everyone gathered in the middle, I only looked at them without saying a word.

Both the boy and girl were skinny as if they had not eaten properly. But compared to ms, they still seemed to be in better shape.

I glanced at the next room. A body was seen through the door. I could see a food bowl next to the body.

There's no doubt that there was a sufficient amount of food. So it was either that he died because he could not stand the loneliness and died of madness, or he could not overcome the disease he had acquired underground.

One of the survivors spoke cautiously.

" Sir Fei, where are we going ?"

" What did I tell you about speaking ?" Xiao Fei harshly reprimanded.

I looked at the girl who asked the

question. She was a girl who did not lose her

beauty despite being locked in the basement

for a long time.

Suddenly the girl bowed and apologized to Xiao Fei.

" Come on, don't be so harsh on these mortals," Biyu said while slapping Xiao Fei's arms.

Biyu's words caused me to wonder.

Why did this woman always refer to us as mortals?

" Let's go," Biyu said with a smile as she and Xiao Fei started walking in a certain direction.

The boy next to the girl also looked in my direction of me with a very wary look before following Xiao Fei alongside the girl.

Before I also started following them, I couldn't help but feel it in my gut.

Something was wrong.

Ignoring the gut feeling I started following behind these people which was the worst decision the boy had taken in his entire life. Maybe if he had died in that prison it would have been better than facing the horrors that awaited him next.
