It was the 3rd day of the semester and we were brushing up on light topics. Mrs. Aiko didn't seem all that enthusiastic about teaching it.

She seemed rather bored with it. Well, at least we're both on the same page right now.

Minori seemed heavily invested in the lesson and gave Mrs. Aiko her undivided attention. However, I can't say the same for the class.

The majority of them were even doing their own thing or just outright ignoring her.

Ichiyo Hisoka was actually sleeping in class. He didn't even try to conceal it; he just outright closed his notebook and used it as a pillow.

I must say that I admired his boldness. However, to the far right of me, Yujiro Masaki just sat in his seat, brooding. If he had worn all black with a mask, I might have mistaken him for Batman.

I sighed and looked to my left, which was straight out of the window.

Minori must have noticed me because she said, "You should pay attention to the lessons. You never know when there might be a quiz."

Three days into the term and she is already worried about quizzes. Is she that concerned about her grades?

I should probably take a page from her book. If my parents found out that I gave up midway through the entrance exam and got a 60, they would probably freak out.

There was a knock on the door, and Mrs. Aiko opened it, revealing that it was an exam monitor.

From what I read in the guidelines, exam monitors usually deliver and pick up examination papers, along with routinely checking into the classes they are assigned to during a test. So that means one thing: we're getting a pop quiz.

I was a bit taken aback at the timing of the quiz. It hasn't even been a week yet.

Mrs. Aiko took the exam packet from the exam monitor and reclosed the door.

The entire atmosphere of the classroom changed drastically when they realized what was going down.

Even Ichiyo woke up from his nap as if he felt a great disturbance in the force.

She opened the packet and passed the test papers along to the first student who passed the stack along to another.

It was repeated for a while until it finally reached my desk.

I took one and passed it to my left side.

The girl next to me took the papers without even looking in my direction.

Wow, that's cold, ice cold. I honestly think this was the first time I have ever been blatantly ignored by a girl my age.

Observing the paper in front of me, I noticed that it was a test paper, but it only consisted of two pages, so that means it was a relatively short exam.

Perhaps it's just a little bit of class warming. You know, fully break us into the type of environment the school presents itself as for the duration of the next three years.

After everyone got their very own copy of the exam,

Mrs. Aiko spoke again.

"Consider this your very first class clash and good luck, so you may now begin."

The entire class looked around at each other in confusion and began to write the exam.

I wasn't expecting a clash clash so soon into the term, but she did foreshadow it during her first day explanation. The students who were caught off guard weren't listening to her completely. What was the saying again? You're hearing me, but you're not listening.

Flipping through the 2 page exam, I saw that it was pretty straight-forward.

The instructions read: "Answer five questions and please showcase your working."

There are 10 questions in total, with the task of answering only 5 of them.

Five of the questions were simple, and five were more on the difficult side.

If you answered the 5 easy questions correctly, then you pass, but the trick is that the answer you got for the previous question will be needed to solve the one after it. So if you get one wrong, you're basically in a hole.

The harder questions were not linked together, but they were second year going into third year level, so tackling them would be like wrestling a bear, but if you get them correct, then you pass.

I decided what I wanted to do and then picked up my blue ink pen, which is a bold choice because a pencil would have probably been the safer option.

After 15 minutes of rapid pen movement, I was done with the exam.

I looked over to the girl who was sitting next to me and saw her tackling the hard questions, but she was stuck on the last one, which was a university level question.

Based on that observation, she appears to be a hard-working individual who does not like to take the easy way out. So her completing the hard questions would just be her feeding that drive, but it can be an Achilles heel if she doesn't know when to take the simpler path.

I am interested in finding out more about her now. I want to know why she works so hard and if it is worth it at the end of the day.

Now that is over and done with. My biggest task of the exam is finally here. My dreaded enemy, which is called the awkwardness of being the first to hand in my paper,

Would that make me seem like I had just given up on the exam or like I had finished the exam quickly because I have giga brains?

Those are the two options that everyone would land on, and there is no in-between. I am sure of it.

I mean, I can always wait for someone else to be done and follow their lead when they hand in their paper, but the real question is how long would that be? I don't want to spend the entirety of the exam here twiddling my thumbs.

In a hesitant manner, I rose from my seat. The legs of the chair made a slight screeching sound that alerted everybody to what was going on.

After gathering up the courage, I made my way to Mrs. Aiko's desk.

Step by step,

I felt the shifting gaze of all the students who were still seated, looking at me with potential curiosity.

Finally reaching the desk, Mrs. Aiko stared at me then looked at the watch on her left wrist.

"Are you sure that you're finished with the exam? You do have a lot of time still."

"Yeah, I double checked my answers already."

After handing in my paper, she looked at my name, which was on the top right of the paper, and nodded her head.

"Alright you can leave Mr. Amaya."

All I can say is what a way to kickstart the middle of a school week.
