The classroom door opened again and in walked a male in his early 30’s, dressed in a shirt and some pants with no tie or jacket. Based on his appearance, I would tell you he was laid back. I was relieved to discover that because I wasn’t a fan of heavy-handed teachers.
"Greeting classes 1-3 and 1-4. I am your math instructor, Mr. Kubo Madoka, and I’m pleased to meet you."
Everyone opened their books and paid attention to Mr. Madoka as he prepared to start the class.
Well, almost everyone. There were a few rebellious students who did their own thing, which included texting and talking in class. Weren't they scared about possibly losing grade points?
I carefully observed the upper corners of the room and noticed that there were a lack of cameras in the room, which means they are confident that Mr. Madoka won't say anything. Which means that they are probably already familiar with the personality and tolerance of this teacher.
Either way, I won't risk it and follow their lead with the slacking off.
I studiously paid attention to the class even though hearing the constant blabbering of which numbers and letters equaled what made me want to staple my ears closed.
As I inspected each of my classmates from afar, I could say that they were actually paying attention and not getting sidetracked by anything. Are they finally maturing as students, or is this a one-time thing?
In front of me, all I could see was the rapid movements of Minori's pencil as she solved the questions on the board.
Hmm, should I attempt them? I don't really see the point of it, but maybe it will be good practice and a possible refresher.
I exhaled deeply and picked up my pencil, then began to jot down the questions on the board. However, I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching me. I knew that it wasn't Minori until she had eyes in the back of her head. Other than that, there shouldn't be anyone else with enough interest in me to warrant that type of stare.
As I slowly began to write, I shifted my eyes to the left of me into the heart of the Kaya Harumi's faction seating order. Asuka had her eyes on me in an observant manner.
Is she checking to see if I had already read the room and confirmed that the information she gave me was correct while trying to confirm if the information I gave her about the standing of our class is accurate or not?
She's attempting to kill two birds with one stone right now. For the moment, I should ignore her. There's no way for her to confirm if what I told her is the truth, unless she comes right out and asks, in which case we would keep quiet.
I would consider her boxed in unless she makes a counter move, which I believe she is very much capable of.
Asuka and I unintentionally locked eyes and quickly broke out of it.
I shifted my focus back to solving the equations.
Sigh. I am so bored right now. I think I would prefer to take an exam over this, and that is saying a lot right now.
Halfway through the lesson, Mr. Madoka gave us a small break in which the majority of the joint class, minus Yujiro, and a few class 1-3 students stayed in class.
I stood outside of the room and leaned against the wall, exhaling deeply. I was trying to summon the willpower in order to maintain my sanity in that math class.
Minori stood to the left of me and said, "So this joint class has been alright. Our classmates are managing to catch on to the questions at a decent pace, very different from our regular math class. Maybe it's just the overall teaching style."
"You could possibly be correct. I do think that they are making progress, but I am not sure if their answers are correct. It's easy to learn a formula, but it's even easier to apply it incorrectly."
Minori agreed with my statement.

Asuka continued to observe our class, each student one by one. Currently, she's determining who among us could possibly be the leader.
However, the look on her face says that she is yet to discover it, even though she already knows what she is looking for.
The classroom door opened and the two male students from class 1-3 who stayed back inside, came out to get fresh air. One of the students' shirt buttons was undone just above the belt area, and he quickly fixed it. He must have missed a button while dressing himself and finally caught it.
They relaxed a bit while Yujiro sat alone in the class. I am sure he's enjoying himself right now.
Eiko approached Minori and I then said, "I believe we're doing an excellent job in there, guys, so keep it up."
Aw, there goes our local ball of sunshine, out here cheering us on even though the achievements are barely worth mentioning.
After a few minutes, Mr. Madoka appeared again.
"Alright, joint class, time to resume our lesson."
With that being said, he turned the handle on the door and opened it. Everyone returned to the room and took their seats.
I plopped myself down on the cold metal chair and closed my eyes. I wasn't sleeping but just having an extended blink.
With my eyes closed, I listened to the teacher of the class. Mr. Madoka then offered a small cash prize to the person who could answer a certain math question mentally.
It sounds like fun, and it's basically free money. Who doesn't love a combination of those two things?
Mr. Madoka asked the question, then repeated it. The entire joint class was silent as we attempted to calculate this year 3 math equation without writing the working.
There was silence as we looked around to see who would be the first one to solve it.
Suddenly, a cry broke that thick, tense feeling that was the atmosphere of the classroom.
"Hey, where’s my purse?" cried a female.
It was a female student from class 1-3.
The entire joint class, including Mr. Madoka, turned and looked at her, confused due to the randomness of it all.
The timing of it just felt so out of place, as if you were waiting for the climax of a song and your device just switched the tune instantly.
Maybe she was trying to distract us while she came up with the answer, or maybe she was really missing her wallet.
