It is only five days until our penalty exam, and everyone is on edge.

I would hope that the board of directors would be reasonable when approving the questions that we'll be given.

I'll be honest and say that I felt a bit relaxed even though there was mountains of pressure on the class to pass without losing any students.

I will contribute to our constant study groups for my renewed hope in the class. Minori has been taking an active role in them as well, so I am happy about that.

I actually started to get used to doing certain things out in the open, like assisting with certain questions, etc. I think if I do that, I'll establish myself as someone who is above average, nothing more or nothing less.

I stood on the 5th floor public balcony, just overlooking the students who were on the lower floors and on the opposite side of my room. The way the dormitory is built, there is a court yard in the center of the building, which would be in view from any floor of the dormitory once you stepped out of your door and got a bit closer to the railings, which obviously prevent us from leaning in too much and accidentally performing a Swanton bomb onto the lower floors.

Anyway, I checked the time. It is 10 p.m. Absolute lock-off time for anyone of the opposite gender in regards to entering another person's room. In simpler terms, let's simplify it.

Boy + Girl + Dorm Room + after 10pm until 6am = Nope, that's not allowed.

Boy + Girl + Dorm Room + Anytime that is not between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. = Have fun in there, you wild kids.

The rule just felt so flawed to me. It's not like banning us from each other's rooms from 10 in the night to 6 in the morning will change the possible outcome of those activities among students.

Fine I'll stop my early quarter-night rant.

As I looked down on the second floor, I noticed two students going into a dorm room. I'll just pretend I never saw that.

*Ping*

My attention was taken off of the couple and onto my phone, which had just received a text message.

I pressed on it and the message opened.

From: A.I

Meet me at the bench furthest from my dorm building.

I guess this means one thing.

Before I left for the spot, I threw on a black hoodie because of the chilly weather, making my way down to the 1st floor. I noticed a few students still hanging out without a care in the world. Maybe to them, high school is just one big party. Well, that's what part of me hoped for in the beginning, but I accepted this reality, and now I have to learn to cope with it.

I was finally out of my dorm building, then made a left and followed the path which was laid out for us.

The night felt so dead yet peaceful at the same time. You have the refreshing chilly air, the music of the night played by crickets in unison. Don't even get me started on Mother Moon's gentle rays of light gleaming down on us and the countless stars glistening in the sky. All of those things remind me of the alluring beauty that is the darkness.

I am still walking towards my destination. Something caught my eye. It was Maiya Murata, standing with a male student. I could tell that he wasn't from our year group because I definitely would have remembered. Maybe it was just the poor lighting and he was from our year group. I decided to leave it at that because what other people do during their leisure time is none of my concern, and I am pretty sure that it is natural for one to be in a relationship at all.

Well, again, I have no dating experience, so I'll just go off of my previous statement and chalk it up to living beings doing living being things.

I finally made my way to the meet up spot and saw the person sitting on the opposite side of the bench.

I took a seat on the farthest side and said, "Calling or texting will be more convenient than making me walk all this way."

Asuka adjusted herself while sitting.

"Remember at the multi-class ice breaker when we agreed that we would swap a piece of information in regards to the standing of our respective classes?"

"I am aware of that agreement."

"My information was proven to be accurate, wasn't it?"

I side-eyed the Asuka and replied, "Your information about the opposing factions in your class was correct. I was actually surprised that you were telling the truth. "

Asuka sighed while she started to twirl strands of her long silver hair around her right index finger.

"I had no reason to lie as of right now, but my issue is you not holding up your end of the trade."

I exhaled deeply and asked. "What were my exact words that day?"

Asuka turned her head to me. "You would show me who your class leader is. Something along the lines of "actions trump words."

"That's correct, and during our joint math class, you set up that wallet situation to see who from our class would take the initiative to rectify it."

She chuckled a bit and replied, "I see that you noticed. Reizo was completely innocent and just acting out of pure concern for Ichigo."

"I am actually impressed that you manipulated that situation so perfectly in an attempt to force our leader to show their hand."

Asuka pouted her lips, "It almost worked as well, but unfortunately, I hit a slight snag when three of your classmates came into play. I could dismiss Eiko Tsuyoshi as the potential leader because she was easily shut down by Reizo. Which means it's between Ryoko Takanawa and Minori Takeda, seeing that their joint efforts are what led to my plan unraveling."

"I see that's very unfortunate."

Asuka gave me a slight smirk and said, "You know, the way they did it seemed a bit too organized, as if the entire counter was crafted by one person who gave the order."

I matched her energy by giving a smirk as well, "It seems that you're overthinking it. So have you come to your decision on who you think our leader is?"

"Maybe I am overthinking it and I did."

"What's your answer?"

Asuka smiled and said, "It's none of the above. You haven't selected a class leader as yet."

I gave her a thumbs up and said, "Ding, ding, ding."

She laughed, "I do appreciate a nice goose chase."

I turned to face her and said, "You don't seem like the rest of your classmates."

"It's because none of these "class clash" things matter to me. I just like to have fun, and what's more fun than someone you can play human-sized chess against? Yuki Amaya I want you to keep me entertained as long as you can. Hopefully it can be for the entire three years."

I got up from the bench and replied, "It's getting late, so you should head back inside."

Asuka smiled at me, then left. She didn't even utter a goodbye, which means that I'll be seeing her very soon again.
