“Jin Lu, your mother and I have been thinking about this lately.” A gruff man spoke, his eyes meeting with the woman on his left and nodding. He faced a young pre-teen to his right, before opening his mouth as his piercing sun red eyes looked into the boy’s eyes, “We’ve decided to send you to the Immortal Sects near the kingdom. There, you'll test for your cultivation talent. If you fail, then don’t worry. With your skills, you'll do splendid in the military.”
“Are you okay with this decision, Xiao Lu?”, his mother asked immediately after as she looked at him, worried. As he learned, in this world, ‘Xiao’ was an endearing term meaning little or youthful when added before a person’s name.
‘Xiao’ Lu nodded with a faint smile on his face. His rightful name Lu and his family name Jin – Jin Lu.
He spoke up, his voice and facial expression showed his calm, “Do not worry, mother. This is also my wish.” The boy moved his gaze to his father, “Father, worry not. No matter the end result, I will not disappoint you.”
His father responded with a smile, “I know you won’t.”
Jin Lu nodded. Dinner continued in peaceful warmth. Once they were finished, the three went on their own ways after some more conversation and the servants continued on with their work.
In a bid to continue his daily habits, Jin Lu proceeded to head to the training field in an endeavor to practice. This was his typical routine. From morning to night, Jin Lu practiced martial arts. His black hair would shine in the sunlight and his tanned body would glisten from sweat.
From footwork to palm techniques to sword techniques, Jin Lu had mastered many martial arts. His father had called him a genius like no other. But no one knew his name. It was only natural. Jin Lu was still 12 years of age, and would only join the military when he reached 14. No matter what rumors were spread about him by the servants, others would ignore it just from his age and inactive presence in the social world.
Naturally, his constant mastery wasn’t because of talent. If anything, his hard work served him better than his talent. Rather, it was due to the cheat Jin Lu had awakened when he’d been ‘enjoying’ his stay in this world.
At his 6th birthday, Jin Lu had awakened a system of the martial arts. It focused on gaining proficiency points for a technique or skill. Every point Jin Lu obtained in the art would lead to him understanding how to better use the martial art.
When he thought of the system, Jin Lu would see an interface that showed his progress.

For a mortal noble family like his, it was simply impossible to get a whole 1200+ martial techniques. So naturally, he didn’t get it from them. Instead, Jin Lu gained most of his martial arts from a simple source – his system.
This was because every time he completed practicing one technique to perfect mastery, the system would reward him with 1 to 3 gifts, depending on the difficulty of the mastered technique. The gifts would typically be more martial techniques, with things like body strengthening arts and various resources sprinkled in. Eventually, because of his constant practice of different techniques, Jin Lu could master most mortal techniques with simply a quick read-over of them.
This also led to another factor he noticed. The system based these rewards based on the difficulty of the technique. The higher the difficulty he had learning it, the more rewarding it would be. So, it made sense when his rewards started decreasing qualitatively as time passed, as to him, mastering a technique was as easy as breathing.
Skills, now, were different. In these 6 years, he had only gained two skills. Both of them with a starting limit of 100 MAX proficiency. He didn’t know what would happen when he reached 100, but all he knew was that he would be terrifying when it came to that point.

He already had monstrous capabilities when it came to controlling his body and using weapons. The system had a few other quirks but those would be left for later.
Jin Lu prepared himself as the days passed. He made sure that he had everything he would need. With the secret storage bag he had, it would be no problem keeping everything he needed with him.
Days passed. Jin Lu was ready to set off. He was guarded by a simple servant in a normal looking carriage. Bandits of a higher stature would find it less appealing to rob a poor-looking carriage than a pristine one.
“Xiao Lu, don’t *hic* forget *hic* your mother when you're gone.” Jin Lu’s mother hugged him as she cried, sad to see her little boy leave her after being together for so long.
“Lu, remember. Your safety matters the most. No matter what – survive.” His father was a more serious person, his brows furrowed as he spoke.
“Do not worry; father, mother. I will be fine.” Jin Lu reassured them some more before heading off. Soon, he would find out whether he would be able to embark on the path of immortal cultivation.
Three weeks passed in peaceful bliss, the carriage stopping at brief times for rest, and during the night to sleep.
With the Mountain Sect being only a few days away, everything seemed to be going just fine.
“Stop your carriage!!” A shout was heard as countless others roared. An arrow flew and struck towards where the servant was. Luckily, Jin Lu was right next to him. Deftly, he grabbed the arrow before throwing it away.
Jin Lu stood up, surveying his surroundings. Thirteen men, all with ragged clothes belonging to the typical rough bandits. Jin Lu spoke as he looked at them, “Tell me, why did you decide to attack my carriage?”
A bald, scarred man who was in front sneered, “Why do you think we would tell you?”
Jin Lu calmly responded, “Indeed, you're right. Then, I will simply have to force you to tell me.”
Jin Lu did not waste any time, opting to immediately rush forward. His carriage was surrounded from all sides. Jin Lu charged to the direct front as the servant chose to hide in the carriage. With his quick footwork, the bandit could not react and was soon incapacitate with a palm to the chin.
Jin Lu continued, defeating one after another bandit as he deflected and countered all the surrounding attacks. His moves were fatal and either irreparably damaged his opponents or knocked them out cold. There were also some that he killed, but, all in all, none escaped.
When it was done, Jin Lu looked at his work. All the bandits were lying on the ground, some groaning and others completely unconscious. As he looked at them, Jin Lu realised, “So this is my first time killing a person.”
Jin Lu did not want to waste too much time. Soon, he was on the road again after interrogating and ending the bandits’ lives. As it turned out, the reason they had attacked his carriage was for a simple reason – simply because their leader wanted to. He was in a bad mood and decided to take it out on Jin Lu.
It was an unfortunate event – for the bandits, of course.
A week went by, Jin Lu had now reached the Mt. Ling Sect. In a few more days, the examinations would start so he decided to camp at the base of the mountain. The sun rose and fell.
A carriage was passing by Jin Lu’s campsite,
