Lei Nan gazed at the shoddy interior of his store, listless on the creaking chair behind the counter.

“Where am I?” he wondered, his eyes glazed in confusion. Before he could ponder any further however, he was struck with an intense mental pain. His brain felt as if it was being pinned by needles, causing him to shout in pain, “Ahhh!”

Lei Nan tried to stifle his screams and barely succeeded, enduring the pain as the occasional groan slipped out. A few minutes passed, Lei Nan’s pain started to fade and he slowly regained his faculties.

Lei Nan realised that he’d gained a new set of memories which dumbfounded him as he perused the, “So, I’ve been transmigrated, then?”

As an avid reader of the web’s vast array of serial novels, Lei Nan was no stranger to the situation he was in, but it did disorient him.

“Lei Nan, huh?” He wondered, why do we have the same name? Lei Nan, the original owner of the body, was a simple teen boy who had just reached 17 years of age. He ran a simple pet store which cultivated and sold beasts for others to contract. Unfortunately, as a poor orphan, predecessor Nan was destined to a life of destitution and poverty.

His store was located in a secluded area, and barely saw any business. Luckily, predecessor Nan had some talent in the field as he had managed to learn the basics of cultivating spirit pets, so transmigrator Lei would not be going in blind. Still, he would be in dire straits if he could not see himself some customers.

“This is going to be difficult.” Lei Nan did not hold himself in high esteem. Sure, he was a transmigrator, but he could be an abandoned one, left to toil on his own as the raging waves of life assail him. Thankfully, he was not so unlucky.

[Welcome host to the Pet Rearing System.] A cold mechanical voice sounded and informed Lei Nan to his delight.

“Pet Rearing System?” Lei Nan repeated in excitement. He was relieved and joyful that he would not have to suffer being a normal man in a dangerous world.

“What exactly can you do?” Lei Nan asked quickly. Depending on how powerful this system was, he could shoot straight to stardom.

[The Pet Rearing System is a system designated for all varieties of pets. It focuses on rearing, healing, hatching, evolving, etc. for all pets. The system is capable of providing information on every pet in existence.]

“And how would I do so? For what cost?” Lei Nan asked with a grin, this system was shaping up to be one that was extremely powerful.

[To gain information on a pet, the host must touch anything that contains the pet’s DNA and/or through direct contact with the organism, afterwards the host has to will for the pet’s information to appear. There is no cost.]

“How much information can I gain?” Though Lei Nan could find out by himself, he saw no point if the system was going to answer for him.

[All information pertaining to the pet’s current state as well as its history.]

Lei Nan was experiencing an abundance of happiness. He was not some unlucky sucker!

[As the host has been deemed in ready condition for this world, the basic introduction to the system is concluded.] Immediately after, the voice grew silent. Lei Nan asked it some more questions, only to find out that the system had gone silent. It would seem that he would be unable to get anything more out of the system. Luckily, he had just enough information to know he was set.

“What should I do now?” Lei Nan pondered. As a new man in this world, orphan Lei had no one to count on. Working a few odd jobs around, his predecessor had only barely managed to eke out some funds to support his tiny shop. After he got some faulty furniture and a few cheap pets from the wild, he had opened the store. Who would have expected that he would die from overwork? The young man’s life ended in a cruel play of fate, giving chance for Lei Nan’s soul to take over his body.

Lei Nan got up, he stood and walked to the plant life that was over on the wooden shelf to the front and left of the desk. To the opposite side of this shelf was another, holding the same merchandise.

As he walked up, Lei Nan examined this plant. It was a simple pet used mostly by the lower of the lower class for its common rarity and cheap price. Lei Nan touched the green weed plant and willed it to show him everything about it. In front of him appeared an interface showing words and pictures.

[The Vigorous Weed is a plant that is capable of growing frequently when a fertile area is left unchecked. It is evolved from the presence of Spirit Qi which has occupied this world since 212 years ago…]

[There are 1265 methods the host’s resources allow to evolve this pet…]

[There are 23123 methods that can allow this pet to progress to the next level that the host’s resources allow...]

[There are…]

Lei Nan was hit with a bucketload of information, the likes of which he never imagined to appear. He scrolled and scrolled and scrolled, and yet he never saw the end. From the little scroll bar at the right, Lei Nan was able to tell he would never be able to get through all of this information.

“What a headache…” he groaned with a wry smile. Though he was happy at his situation, the amount of information left him speechless, in awe, and with a problem he didn’t expect. Hopefully, of which the system could fix.

“System, can you only show me the best 5 methods of each that I'm capable of?” Lei Nan asked in hopes the system would respond. While it didn’t do so verbally, it did however accept his request. He saw the panel change before his eyes, much of the information now being hidden by a collapsible arrow.

Muttering his thanks, Lei Nan browsed the 5 methods of each, he realised that he was, in fact, not capable of them. This made him groan. The skill level needed for these methods were unimaginable and needed pinpoint perfect precision, which a newbie like himself did not have.

Deciding this was too much for him, Lei Nan changed the conditions again, “System, can you change it so that the 5 best only show ones that’re at my level of skill.”

The panel changed again, relieving Lei Nan that he would not have to go through encyclopedia hell for one method to help him aid the weed plant. With thanks, he looked through the ways available and saw that while there were hard tasks, they were perfectly accomplishable by him.

Without and tardiness, Lei Nan got to work. He wanted to see the effects of his system’s knowledge in real time. Lei Nan chose one that was relatively easy but still greatly rewarding.

The method he chose was a simple qi circulation method, in which he could allow this vigorous weed to simultaneously heal its injuries and increase its quality.

After a few minutes passed, and sweat had formed on Lei Nan’s face from concentration, he had finally finished. The Vigorous Weed was now no longer weakened and was shining with a lustrous and lush glow. It was a vibrant green and was picture perfect healthy.

[Vigorous Weed]

[Potential: 1.1]

[Quality: Superior]

These were the most obvious changes to the weed that Lei Nan notices, other than the change in the number of methods. Within a few minutes, Lei Nan was able to accomplish something that would take others weeks. And he didn’t even need to be all that skilled. It was truly amazing.

“Hehehe,” an old perverted man’s laugh resounded from Lei Nan’s mouth, “Big bucks are coming my way.”

Lei Nan continued raising the quality and rank of the few pets he had in his store. By the time of sunset, he had finished. Accounting the time it had taken for rests to replenish his spirit qi, Lei Nan had taken a total of 8 hours to attain 7 weed plants with a quality of Elite (above Superior) and a rank of Copper III. He had also cultivated 3 Sunshine Daffodils and a further 5 Lunar Dandelions to Elite Copper IV.

“I should be able to sell these to the Great Fairy Association for a hefty price.” The Great Fairy Association was the leading power in charge of the merchandising of pets, which in this world was commonly referred to as fairies. They dealt in plants, animals, even objects. As long as you could form a contract with it, then it was a fairy.

“For now, I’ll go eat something and then sleep.” Scrounging for some coins, Lei Nan headed out to eat. After he got some food, he went back to the faulty store, and rested himself.
