‘Huh…’ The man opened his eyes, revealing beautiful colors. Colors flew by as his pupils were glowing. The colors dissipated as fast as they arrived however. ‘Didn’t I die…?’

Kai raised his head as he looked at the empty void. There was nothing there, only the endless color of white, at least that’s what it looked like for him.

‘Is this what the other side of the wave looks like?’ His mind thought, seemingly calm at that moment.

‘Where are my parents!’ He widened his eyes as he looked around. His gaze looking everywhere. When he tried to talk or shout, nothing came out of his mouth. The concept of sound was still gone though he was still here. ‘Am I the only one here?!’

He looked at his body, it looked perfectly fine, even better than fine actually. He was completely naked whilst he looked at his abs and excalibur.

‘This isn’t my body!’ Kai trembled  as he touched all around. This wasn’t his body, it was leagues better than his old one but there was no explanation for it. Not one he could think of at the moment at least. ‘Did the Chaos Emeralds do something to me!’

If this was any other time, Kai would be more than happy that he used the chaos emeralds to get this godly physique. But, this just made him agitated. ‘I didn’t ask for this! I wanted to reverse the Super Genesis Wave!’

Kai tightened his hands and grit his teeth. He would rather have everything restored than be alive. Even if he did partially enjoy the situation right now, what about his family or friends?

He was alone in this empty void, nothing except him existed! If he could, he would have punched a wall if it was there.

Several emotions spread through his head. Sadness, anger, hatred, anguish, disappointed, despair, he didn’t know what to do.

He may have looked more mature, but his mind was still the 15 year old boy who loved his family and friends. He hadn’t grown old enough to deal with situations like the death of close ones. Since most people he knew well are still alive and well, at least they were.

Then, the tears started flowing again. He cried in a childish manner he wouldn’t show his friends, but they weren’t here.

Curling himself into a ball, Kai proceeded to weep the sorrow of his loved ones. The death of them all at once and living through that experience in just a few minutes. It was too sudden, too harsh, too unrelenting.

His mind couldn’t think properly with the only thought was to weep. Be in sorrow and live through that without the help of anyone else.

Since time didn’t exist, Kai didn’t know how long he cried. It seemed his tears had no end as his exhaustion was non-existent.

The memories of his loved ones still lingered with the end of them being the most memorable. For some reason, he blamed himself for it.

He believed the comic he read and the events that transpired were connected. Though he didn’t know why, he just believed it so.

The screams of pure terror and the sounds suddenly disappearing were haunting. Glimpses of hypothetical versions of his loved ones and their reactions were meshed into his mind. He had to blame himself for everything, and that was his ‘only’ option.

The ‘surprise’ party he would have had if it weren’t for The Super Genesis Wave. His future and hypothetical wife and kids.

These thoughts made him even more depressed. Why was only he alive? Why was it that he was the sole survivor and not anyone else?

The Chaos Emeralds were the most probable reason but they didn’t do anything. And even when he attempted to kill himself by biting his hand or anything, it wouldn’t work. It was like his body was made out of steel or some sort of material.

So he lived, though he didn’t want to right now. His despair was running at a constant that didn’t have a chance of lowering.

He would have just stayed in that state forever, until he felt something tug at him. A positive emotion that he hadn’t felt for a while. An urge, one not of sadness or despair, but of will.

Kai got his hands off his face and stared at them.

‘What the hell am I doing?m

He uncurled himself, wiping away whatever tears were left. He felt a sudden revelation come to him, and how worthless he was being.

‘I’m wasting so much time just crying and grieving.’

He took a deep breath, though there was no air. He held it for a while, seeming like an attempt of killing himself. But then Kai exhaled slowly.

He thought back to the comics he read, a good representation of willpower. From Superman to Batman, Hawkeye to others, whether things seemed hopeless or futile, they pushed forwards.

He had been wasting his time, grieving over the deaths of his close ones. Even now that didn’t mean he didn’t want to cry, it was just that he felt something else.

If he just spent his time in this void crying, he would let himself down. He was given another chance at life through an event that was impossible to survive in.

If there was still a heaven then he hoped everyone was watching him.

‘I need to stop crying.’ Taking another deep breath, he exhaled with a new determination.

Then, he started to think of possibilities.

‘If the Archie Comics were real, then that should mean that other works of ‘fiction’ should be real too.’

If the Archie Comic series existed then it wasn’t impossible for other things we though of as fiction to be real too.

‘How can I get to one of those worlds then…’ Kai pondered, trying to find some outcomes.

He began to recall the chaos emeralds that he managed to summon and somewhat control. His new body probably came from them as well so they still should be here.

Another quick glance at his surroundings came through with no results as the white void was the only thing in sight.

‘Maybe if I can recall that feeling I got…’

It was a calming sensation when he saw the chaos emeralds in his mind. Their visage was grand but not dominating, they were sort of at a standstill.

Kai shut his eyes, trying to get in a calm state.

WAAA

He then saw extremely faint sparkles in his mind. The same colors as before but much more dim.

‘The chaos emeralds!’ Kai opened his eyes in an instant as he instinctively stuck his hands out.

FOOM

The chaos emeralds suddenly appeared in front of his hands but, they looked much different than they usually would.

They were more dark, their colors almost completely vanishing and them being split into shards. They were broken and almost completely out of their energy which was astonishing.

‘Crap!’ That was his first thoughts after seeing their condition. ‘Was keeping me alive cost them this much?!’

Kai felt a connection to the emeralds, a faint one though but he could still sense their energy and current state in a way.

Though they looked small, the energy they still had were massive. Their broken state just split their power into the different pieces which just gave them more diversity.

If Kai used them properly, he could open a portal through spacetime and enter another world.

‘I hope, no, KNOW this will work!’ Kai focused on the emeralds with extreme determination. His eyes showing a yellow glint as he raised both his hands. ‘Chaos Control!’

The emeralds shone brightly for an instance, but then they went back to their previous state.

‘Chaos Control!’ Kai’s mind didn’t waver as he tried once again. He was new at this of course and it wasn’t a hard concept to learn.

The same result as last time but they flowed even brighter. Yet, they still went back to their previous state.

‘There must be something wrong.’ He frowned as he tried to think. ‘Did the Super Genesis Wave erase spacetime as well?!’

It made sense but was nonsense. His mind couldn’t comprehend how that would work but it would be an answer for why a portal wouldn’t form.

‘Then I’ll use teleportation!’ This was Kai’s last option and only way to get out from what he knew now. ‘I just want to get to a world, any world would be fine as long as it is safe.’

Kai’s eyes lit up once more with a golden light as he looked at the chaos emeralds with determination. This was his last option, and with his full f, he thought,

‘Chaos Control!’

ZZZPP!

(A/N: While writing this I started to cringe while knowing that I wasn’t the greatest in inspirational writing. I myself get that the protagonist got over his grief a bit instantly.)
