Chapter 1: Rejection Notice (Prologue)

"Robbie! Did you send a letter to the group with the fiery man and the rock monster?" Robbie's mom Maddie asks while shaking Robbie awake. "What?... No mom, they're called the the Fantastic Four for a reason, plus they definitely wouldn't want me, even the low ranking teams wont take me." Robbie responds while crawling out of bed. "I made you breakfast, go come down and eat." Maddie demands while opening the curtains and leaves the room. "Okay okay. Just give me a minute to wake up a bit." says Robbie, struggling to get his eyes adjusted to the light.

Robbie gets dressed and heads downstairs to get coffee and his food. "Its the red plate at the end of the table honey." claims Maddie. "Thanks mom. The only team left that I can join is the New Warriors, I sent my application in last week." Says Robbie, stuffing his face with pancakes. "That's a real shame, I really liked the... what was it, Phantasmic Four?" asks Maddie as she washes a pan. "No mom, its the Fantastic Four, and they would never think of letting me in the team." claims Robbie.

"I've already been rejected from the Avengers, the X-Men, the Annihilators, even the Champions of Los Angeles. The New Warriors are my last chance mom, if not them, then I'm just another vigilante living a lonely life." Says Robbie. "Someone will come to realize your potential, you can be one of the strongest people alive with the right people in your corner... Oh! Would you look at that, you already have one in your corner!" Maddie exclaims. "Thanks mom, even if I don't get into the New Warriors I have you, so that has to count for something right?"

Suddenly a knock on the front door can be heard, and Robbie sprouts out of his chair and gets to the door in a flash, opening it as fast as he can. On the other side of the door a slender brown haired teen stood, and asked "May I come in really quick?". Robbie let him in and says "You must be Vance, can we skip the courtesies and get to the results?" Vance shows an expression of slight shock "Straight to the point, not much for wasting time are we? I'll keep it short then, after close review, your powers are a bit too unstable for a team aspect. If you got some training and mastered them, then it would be a yes. Long story short, the team wouldn't feel safe with you there."

"Oh... okay." Robbie says, sitting down in the chair he was eating breakfast in. "I'm sorry Robbie, I wish it was another way, you just aren't ready to be a hero" Vance states as he gets ready to leave. "Thanks for considering anyways." Robbie says, obviously upset. Vance leaves, Robbie can see the rest of the New Warriors through the glass door. Robbie throws away the rest of his breakfast. "Honey, now might not be the best time, but I used all the milk in the pancakes, could you head to the store when you get the chance?" Maddie says. "Yeah mom... I'll go get it in a minute, I need to clear my head anyways." Robby says defeatedly while he heads upstairs to get his jacket.
