Chapter 5: Chap 5 – First Quest

After walking for a while with Shizuku, Nathan went to the agreed venue.

They decided to meet at an inn south of the town of Carnonacae.

It was known that this inn, which was the only one in a busy guild town like Carnonacae, was quiet.

It was different from the other inns that accepted adventurers because of how difficult it was to get checked in.

There were very few people the innkeeper would let in, and Nathan was one of them.

Along with the leader of the Blue Rose, a party from the continent's largest city: Biberbach, Nathan was one of the only adventurers he truly admired.

When Nathan arrived at the entrance, the first thing he saw was a sign that read "No Entry."

Despite the text, a burly man in a black robe was standing there, welcoming them.

The man smiled warmly and greeted him, "Welcome! It's nice to see you again Nathan.

Nathan nodded politely and returned his smile.

"I've already set up the room for you and your party to meet."

Before going on a quest, Nathan always talked to his friends about the final details, and this time was no exception.

"So what kind of job will we take today?" asked Meren.

"Najaggi is a plant-type monster. We'll be able to finish the quest later today if we find it, lure it, and kill it without hurting its skin," Yumina explained.

"And you say it like it's no big deal," Meren said incredulously.

"We have everything we need to kill it," Yumina signaled to Yuuki.

As soon as he saw it, he showed all the things he bought at Yumina's request.

A short sword, a bow, arrows, a quiver full of bolts, a dagger, and a small pouch with potions in it.

Yuuki had specifically brought those items for Najaggi. Because it was classified as a plant, its body must regenerate while in contact with nature.

Yumina had him purchase a potion that would break that bond temporarily, hopefully long enough for them to kill him.

"Tsk, I think that's fine," Merentiel had nothing else to say.

After discussing the last details, they traveled to the forest where Najaggi was located.

Yuuki was tasked with tracking it due to his assassin class. The others followed him through the dense trees.

The Najaggi were notoriously hostile toward outsiders and preferred to reside in dense forests.

In light of this, Yuuki enchanted their feet to be less audible as they walked through the woods. This allowed them to move silently among the plants.

At the same time, Yumina kept an eye out for any signs of danger. If she spotted anything suspicious, she immediately told Yuuki so that he could investigate further.

If Yuuki determined that the unknown thing was actually an enemy, it would be Merentiel and Nathan who would be responsible for the attack. Merentiel was the swordsman of the group, and Nathan was the tank. In other words, they were best suited for vanguard .

"Here it is." Yuuki stopped walking.

He pointed ahead of him and indicated that they should stop too.

They finally saw what a Najaggi looked like.

Najaggi was still in a resting state, with a strong body that looked like leaves and vines that went straight into the ground.

Its roots were spread everywhere around it.

The birds landing on its head made the place look both peaceful and dangerous at the same time. It was a sight that felt almost unreal.

"Yuuki, it's time for the second part of the plan," Yumina whispered to him.

Yuuki enchanted his feet with an even more powerful spell, rendering his footsteps inaudible.

His mission was to use the potion on Najaggi to break his connection with nature, but he didn't expect to see birds, which would complicate this mission.

To make the situation worse, they could wake the monster if they stepped on some of the roots, even with the spell.

Fortunately, Yuuki's training as an assassin came in handy again.

Using his skills, he crept along the tree branches above Najaggi and waited until he found a good spot to strike.

When he got close, he activated the potion and took aim.

This time, however, something unexpected happened.

One of the roots moved under his foot.

He threw the potion right at Najaggi and then went back to his formation without hesitating.

"Yumina! Get ready!" he shouted.

"Yes!" replied Yumina.

Once she heard him, Merentiel grabbed his sword and charged forward.

Just as expected, the root suddenly began to grow bigger, forcing Meren off balance.

Its roots grew even deeper than they had before.

Merentiel yelled in despair, "What the hell is this Yumina? The potion wouldn't break its connection to nature."

Yumina couldn't answer because she also did not understand what was going on.

I'm sure I looked into everything, and everything looked fine. Yumina also started to feel desperate.
