Chapter 18: David and Goliath

"Oh shit, ohshitohshitohshitohshit!" Ors screamed over and over again, his pokemon atop his head. He was currently running at top speed from a crazy yellow pokemon of around eight feet in height.

Species: Girafarig (Goliath Variant)

Type: Psychic/Normal

Potential: Red

Ability: Adaptability

Level: 16

Moves: Astonish, Stomp (I), Confusion, Amnesia (B)

Next Evolution: A???r? Cr?????i? Es????e OR Blend ????? and ????? ????

Well... Obviously his new ability was not useful at the moment, but it confirmed that Girafarig had an evolution of some kind

Anyway, the Girafarig was pretty crappy in terms of moves. Though, granted, it was hard for a pokemon to have more than five moves other than egg moves at any given time. The only problem was Confusion. It hadn't used it yet, but when it did, Ors and Rena would be in danger.

"We're going to have to fight this thing; it would catch up before we could leave the forest!" The man yelled to his pokemon. The two split up, hiding behind the trees. Unfortunately, they were dealing with a psychic type.

BOOM

The tree that Ors was hiding behind immediately toppled, barely giving him the chance to dodge the black hoof slamming into the ground where he had stood. "Now, Rain Dance!"

Ors slid under the large beast's belly, jumping upward when he was where he expected its lungs to be. "Take my Axe Kick!"

Kicking up, a steely shin met unprotected ribs, making the Girafarig crumble. "What's a Johto pokemon doing here anyway?"

Rainfall answered Ors' question, as he ran back to dodge another stomp. It was a narrow evasion, the wind of the attack hitting him cutting his clothes open.

"Holy fuck, hit with some Water Guns, ASAP!" Just as Ors dodged, the first bullet hit the huge giraffe. That's when it decided to use Confusion.

The Water Gun had barely scratched it. After all, it had already used Amnesia three times. Forget the fact that water gun basically has a power of 90 counting STAB and weather conditions, 4x Special Defense was a crazy boost.

The duo rose up into the air as psychic power surrounded them and subsequently piledrove them into the stony ground where forest met gorge. The bright side was that they had found a river now.

Unfortunately, the huge damage from Confusion had left the afflicted two thoroughly rattled. Ors couldn't even use his finisher move yet as he couldn't confirm that it would be a one shot, plus there was a good distance still to Neon Town.

A hoof cloaked in white energy came blazing toward Rena, who had flinched from the pain. Ors replied by blocking with yet another Steel Axe. Luckily, steel type suppressed normal type, plus the move itself had a high base power.

The only real issue was that it was meant to be used as more of a drop kick than a front kick, making the whole movement a bit awkward.

The two attacks canceled each other out, giving Rena the time to dodge. As long as that didn't happen again, her speed should allow her to dodge basically anything. That's what Ors thought at least, until the devilish tail shot a small concentrated blast of ghost energy into her just as she turned around. Astonish sent her flying into the water.

"No, Rena!" That had to have been a critical hit. It hit square in the center of her swirls. "I'll kill you!"

Ors jumped into the air, screaming and spinning like a top while gathering power, before finally Axe Kicking right into the thinnest part of the tail.

The grinning ball at the end exploded into a gory mess as the tail broke off the Girafarig altogether.

After six Stomps in a row failed to land, the Girafarig screamed to the sky, And all four legs turned brown. It jumped directly over Ors' head, then landed. It learned Stomping Tantrum midbattle, somehow.

With a power of 150, Ors felt his head contact hard ground, cracking his skull and the rocks under it. "POLIIIIIII!" Was the last thing he heard before slipping into unconsciousness.

A blue haze swirled around the Poliwag, who shot a huge bullet of highly pressurized water. Rain still was falling, plus the power of Torrent dealt enough damage to easily crack a rib.

Nearly thirty seconds later, Ors awoke with a start. His brain was screaming in pain, but he stood nonetheless, ignoring the blood streaming from his temple.

Quickly assessing the situation, he saw Rena covered in scratches and water, standing up from a tiny crater where either a Stomp or Confusion had just sent her.

Girafarig wasn't doing much better. One leg was bent the wrong way, and psychic energy was holding a hole in its stomach closed, as it tried to stitch it back together.

Just as he tried to take a step forward, his mind twisted, and he nearly fell over. The agony was stunning, leaving even Ors' great pain tolerance handicapped.

"Rena, Icy Wind on the wound you inflicted earlier, then hit the frozen blood with Water Gun to shatter it." He sputtered, shooting his weak, half finished Gust to reopen the wound.

Though the creature attempted to dodge, the frigid breeze quickly began solidifying the blood.

Jumping into the air, it attempted another Stomping Tantrum, but Rena dodged by using Aqua Jet directly into the crystalized blood. Two seconds later, she shot out of its back in a mess of blood and spinal fluid.

The monstrosity crashed into the ground, as both Rena and Ors collapsed into a heap. "Good job Rena. Sorry, I should have dodged that attack, it was just too strong."

"No, do not worry about it. It was a worthy opponent. If you had an ability or defense like mine, I'm sure you would have done far better." Rena graciously answered.

The two immediately began discussing ways they could have done better, until nearly an hour had passed. They finally stood up, and began making their way to their original destination after they both sprayed each other down with all of Ors' potion.

"So where is it that we're going anyway, Ors?" Inquired the Polliwog, who was actually walking instead of floating in Aqua Jet or riding on her trainer's head.

With a quaint grin, Ors answered, "A certain area that we can only access by using dynamite, unknown to the public. The place where we'll get our second and third pokemon, to answer what you really want to know."
