Chapter 32: Faded memories(1/3): The Knight’s Oath

(A/N: This will be like an experimental short series do leave a comment on what you guys think, do you like it or not.)

That brilliant red colour that once lit up the sky, I still remember it but at the same time every time, I remember it. I couldn't help but feel pain remembering to whom that belonged. 

[Uther's Past] 

I was a mindless scavenger who scavenged greedily for any spiritual dust, to us scavengers they were like drugs that gave us power and that power gave us joy but even after taking those spiritual dust for centuries I couldn't form a complete consciousness. 

I thought maybe I need more time while in the meantime I started to develop different attack techniques to get stronger. This gave me a huge advantage over other and soon enough I became the strongest in the outer zone of the imaginary space. To be honest I would have been satisfied with just ruling the outer zone but something had happened to me that even I can't recall but something inside of me always kept on telling me to get stronger. At that time I didn't know for what am I willing to get stronger but I kept challenging myself over and over. 

One day I finally decided to move toward the middle zone of the imaginary space to test my limits and to see my progress

But when I entered the middle zone I realised how much I have underestimated the difference in the power between the outer zone scavengers and the middle zone scavengers. At first, I was frustrated that I couldn't defeat even the weakest scavenger from the middle zone but I kept trying and after countless attempts, I finally defeated one of the scavengers. 

I finally got used to the middle zone after some more decades and started to gain more power. I realise that the more you are closer to the core the more powerful you can get this made me more determined to get to the core region but unknowingly I had started to develop some emotions along the way. 

Pride, Joy, Rage, and Sorrow were the emotions I had developed. Pride for being the strongest in the outer zone, Rage when I realise my strength didn't count anything against the ones in the middle zone, Sorrow because I kept on losing to them no matter how much I try and finally Joy when I started to defeat them but there was also another emotion that I didn't notice no I overlooked it at that time. It was fear, fear of the unknown dangers that lurked in the core region. 

After a few more centuries I finally became the strongest in the middle zone and when I entered the core region I was badly injured. The ones who lurked in the core regions were monsters they were far stronger, smarter and had a durable imaginary body than us. Some even have a pseudo-complete soul at that. There were also some legends saying that some scavengers even managed to develop a full consciousness and after that, they were able to go to real space. I also wanted to go there but wasn't able to. 

One day a powerful scavenger caught me and injured me to the point that I was going to die no perhaps disappear or wiped out or maybe perhaps fade away. I don't know how to put it into words. I was never actually real and thus I can't say that I will die but then someone pulled me into another place which was the real world. 

When I arrive there I was genuinely afraid of the environment gave me a feeling that I had never felt before it gave me a corporeal feeling.  Then suddenly I heard a voice beside me. 

Autumn: "Welcome to the World lost one." 

I immediately took a defensive stance and observed the person who had just spoken. It was a human a real one at that. He wore a black polo, an earring with a strange ball which had a DNA-like mark, white boots, a dark grey glove, and loose grey jeans with a white belt. As for how he looked he had a fair complexion but not too much had jet black hair with a hint of silver on the tip and had deep emerald eyes but I couldn't figure out what was going on because I was still injured. 

[Where am I, Who am I? Are you the one you brought me here?] 

I asked the person in front of me. 

Autumn: "Yes you can say that and I will also be your guide so that you can familiarise yourself with the place. Furthermore, I am your creator I was the one who brought you into this world from the imaginary space." 

After that Autumn the one whom I started to call sire in the future began teaching me different things and introduced me to different wonders of the real world. I also saw many things get to experience because of my sire. 

At first, I was like a newborn in this world but as I got to familiarise myself with this world I finally got used to it. I saw many things that the world had to offer including weapons that were powerful such as guns, nukes and plasma guns. To be honest I was tempted by these weapons and asked whether I could learn how to use them. 

[Sir Autumn?] 

Autumn: "Yes, What is it?" 

[Will it be okay for me to learn how to use those firearms] 

Autumn: "Hmm, I see no problem but I want to ask a few questions before I let you learn how to use them and be honest okay?" 

[Okay] 

Autumn: "Why do you wish to learn it?" 

[To get stronger.] 

Autumn: "Not a bad idea these firearms can effectively increase one's firepower. Next question why do you wish to get stronger?" 

[Because-] 

I thought of a reason but couldn't come up with one but after some time I knew the exact reason why I wanted to get stronger. 

[It's because I want to win against anyone whom I challenge and be victorious] 

Autumn: "Although your goal of being victorious against any foe you face may sound bold you got the spirit you need. But remember one thing over obsession over something is not good." 

At that time I couldn't understand the message that my sire was trying to convey but he taught me how to use firearms regardless it was later that I found out that firearms are completely useless against those who truly stand at the top. They had abilities to stop the time around the bullet or even tear space to redirect the trajectory of any missile and all. I was foolish enough to fight a person like that and after losing I truly felt humiliated. 

Autumn: "Hmm that was quite a poor performance out there Urther?" 

[Sir Autumn I-] 

Autumn: *Sigh "This was exactly what I was expecting but didn't expect it to be way worse." 

[What] 

[Is Sir Autumn trying to tell me that he didn't have any faith in me from the start] 

Autumn: "You must be thinking about how I didn't have any faith in you winning from the very start and you are right. I was expecting you to lose from the very start." 

[...] 

Autumn: "You see the main reason you lose is not that your opponent was strong but, to be honest, it was your fault that you lose." 

[What]

Autumn: "Exactly you lost because you are weak and were foolish enough to fight a strong opponent." 

[...] 

Autumn: "Do you still remember what I told you back when you asked me to teach you how to use firearms?" 

[Yeah, you said something about being over-obsessed] 

Autumn: "Exactly you have an over-obsession with winning no matter the odds which is foolish. You know it is okay to run away because you can always try again if you can save yourself." 

[But isn't that-] 

Autumn: "A cowardly act?" 

[Yeah] 

Autumn: "Listen carefully lost one retreating while facing a powerful foe cannot be called a cowardly act it becomes one when your reason to retreat is to hide from your enemies. You see if you can't defeat them on your first try then the first retreat try to get stronger as much as possible in a short amount of time afterall your enemies won't wait for you to get stronger so try to get stronger quickly and when you are confident that you can defeat them you can try again but there is one rule you must follow. That is there is no second time retreating after the first because you will have to ensure it in the second attempt you finish your opponent." 

[Is there a reason why you must finish it within the second attempt?] 

Autumn: "Yes there is one. What I am trying to say is that the second time you battle its the best chance you will ever get to be able to finish off your opponent because you will be training on a much faster phase by either training twice or trice the amount of time you train for which will clearly show results on the second time you battle but at the same time you will also be giving info to your opponent that you ate getting stronger faster than them which will cause them to be warier of you and they wouldn't let you escape if you're weaker than them. But if you manage to escape then your opponent will also start to train which will always lead to them having an advantage. Simply put the second time you battle the opponent you couldn't defeat the first time it would be the only time where you will have an advantage." 

[Then can you teach me how to get stronger.]

Autumn: "That would depend on whether you want to learn the same things that I have to learn afterall I don't use firearms."

He introduced me to the way of chivalry and it was later when I decided I wanted to be a knight then only did I start to learn the way of a knight and after some months I asked my sire for a name. 

Autumn: "You want a name. Hmm, how about Urther?" 

Urther: "Urther?" 

Autumn: *nods " Yes I think it's a fitting name for a Valiant Knight like you." 

At that moment when he referred to me as a Valiant Knight, I felt happy. I didn't know why at that time I felt joy for being called a knight but I knew one thing, that was that I am a knight. 

Some years later... 

Urther: "Sir Autumn Can I ask you something?" 

Autumn: "Yeah, What is it?" 

Urther: "You have claimed that you are currently the world's strongest, correct?" 

Autumn: *nods "Yeah, that's right currently I am the strongest in the world." 

Urther: "Then shouldn't everyone be calling you king?" 

Autumn: "Huh, What do you mean?" 

Urther: "What I mean is shouldn't the strong ones be respected by others? I think that it's logical for weak people to respect strong ones. Furthermore, when it comes to knowledge, strength and finance you are unrivalled by anyone and I think that it's appropriate for others to call you king of this world." 

This was the first time that I was so direct towards my sire which can be considered disrespectful. To me, he was not only the man whom I admire but he was also my mentor some things about him didn't make any sense. 

Autumn: "You see I never had cared about other people's opinion on what they think of me as but if they want to think of me as a king, the champion or even one of the top Aura Guardians I am fine with it afterall whatever they refer to me as. In the end, I am who I am. I am Autumn and that fact will never change." 

After he said that I finally understood why he was so carefree it was because he never actually let others' opinions bother or stand in his way. He was free just like a whale who freely moves alone in the vast world. And after hearing his answer I also made up my decision to serve him as a knight and knelt in front of him.

Autumn: "Urther" 

Urther: "From this day onwards I shall refer to you as my sire, Sir Autumn." 

Autumn: "Sire." 

Urther: "Yes, it was you who saved my life and taught me many things after I arrived in this world so I want to repay it by serving you as one of your knights." 

Urther: 'I was an existence who didn't have any purpose but it was you who gave me a purpose to exist and gave a way to improve myself and thus, I shall live by this oath...'

Oath of Urther: 

The fallen leaves signify the end of the age of old,

where my sire sleeps on the carpet of red and gold.

Each leaf has to say a story untold,

With the blessings of my sire, I shall die and never yield to any of my foes.
