"Find him! I want him back!"
The loud voice boomed and threatened the eight men around him. Ava, the chief commander of 'The Ghouls of Sin' was furious. And having no other way to vent his anger, he started threatening his own men.
"That- that Amrit must not reach his destination tonight, otherwise everything- everything we have worked hard to build till now will be smashed into the dust!!"
The ghoul warriors had covered their faces with masks so their expressions were not discernable.
Yet, from their trembling hands one could definitely say that they were scared of their Chief Commander. After all, he was infamous for his brutal ways of torture.
"Chi- Chief Commander, we- we have been searching for him for two hours now. The rain has stopped but unfortunately this rain has washed away his trail. How will we catch him?" One of the ghoul warriors asked fearfully.
Ava turned towards him and grabbed him by his throat, "that's not my concern! You are my snoop dogs! And it's your duty to find him!" He threw the man on the ground.
The soldiers were also helpless, "Bu- but Chief Commander, this- this jungle is endless!! And if what we have heard about him is true then- then," he couldn't finish his sentence.
"Then what?" Ava roared, "I don't care about his truth or the vastness of this jungle. I want to find him tonight even if I have to burn down this entire jungle!"
He narrowed his sharp eyes and glared at all the eight soldiers, "but keep in mind, before that I will sacrifice eight heads with my own sword!" He announced as he plunged the silver sword into a thick tree, dividing it into two pieces.
The eight men flinched with fear.
Suddenly, a strange sound could be heard in the area but it was quite low. However, a guard with the ability of sharp hearing heard it. His ears perked up, "Chief Commander! This sound! I can hear a strange sound! It seems like- like temple bells!" He excitedly announced.
Ava's interest perked up, "hmmm….temple bells? A temple in this jungle where humans fear to even set a foot? Quite a strange thing. Probably built in old times."
He rubbed his chin and looked thoughtful, "But, if I was gravely injured like him, I would also go to a place like a temple to rest a bit or who knows that temple might be Amrit's destination?"
"Follow the sound of the bells and lead the way for us!" He ordered the ghoul warrior.
The man did as he was told and started heading in a certain direction. The path in the jungle seemed like an unorganized natural maze. The ghouls kept following their partner. Their minds were so brainwashed by the cult that their only focus was on the task assigned by the chief commander and to follow him blindly; they didn't even pay attention to their other partners.
That's why, they didn't know that when they passed a large tree, one of their warriors was pulled up on a tree by a large snake, his neck quickly broken by the heavy tail.
The same way another warrior fell inside a dark but very deep hole. Walking silently on the way, a strange vine automatically wrapped itself around one of the soldiers legs and mouth and it dragged him towards the mouth of a carnivore plant which was the size of ten feet.
One of the soldiers actually saw this but before he could shout, a monkey hand wrapped around his mouth and he was pulled up on a tree by a group of large monkeys who carried him like a sack of potatoes and threw him in front of the two tusked lion, a deadly animal of this jungle.
And all of these deaths happened on the orders of a certain shape shifting serpent.
Ava and his remaining four ghoul warriors still didn't notice this. They kept following the sharp eared man. Finally, they could see the beautiful and large temple in front of them hidden behind some bushes.
He was so amazed that he forgot about his surroundings and he pushed the bushes away and started walking forward. His attention was completely concentrated on the beautiful temple that he didn't realise when he stumbled on a spongy yet large thing. He almost fell face forward when he was held by something, thus saved from falling.
"Careful, Chief Commander, you still have some worth left," a silky and cold yet melodious tone sounded. But it neither carried the obedience of his soldiers nor the concern of someone worried for him. It sounded mocking.
He looked towards the direction of the voice and his body stiffened at the site in front of him.
Amrit was sitting on a high platform of the temple. His bare upper body, which was beautifully sculpted like God's favourite statue, was shining under the simmering light of the full moon, completely unblemished and opposite of his previous condition.
Yet, the most fearful thing about him was, under his waist there were no legs but a large serpent body in midnight blue colour with beautiful golden patterns swirled on it. The serpent body shone lasciviously under the moonlight, twisted and curled from many angles, it was as wide as the trunk of a thick tree and its length seemed endless.
Suddenly, Ava realised that the thing which saved him and was still coiled around him was this serpent tail of Amrit. Blood instantly drained from his face. He stuttered, "yo- you! You!..."
Amrit smirked, "yes, it's me Chief Commander Ava."
"Welcome to the humble abode of Amrit Shaysha." He gave a small bow.
Ava's mind was blown up by the shock. He couldn't believe his own eyes even though he had already been hinted about this, "so- so it's- it's true! What they- they say about you?!" He asked.
"What did they tell you about me?" The beautiful man smiled and turned his head. Only now did Ava notice the countless snakes roaming around them.
Amrit crouched down a little and picked a red snake with blue strips: the infamous snake of this jungle known for its very fast acting venom. The snakes coiled around Amrit's forearm. He brought its hood closer to his face. The snake hissed at Amrit loudly but didn't bite him and instead started coiling around Amrit's arm like an armlet.
Green emerald eyes with vertical black pupils looked into Ava's direction, "did they tell you about my true identity?"

"That I am actually a centuries old shape shifting serpent? Well….. that's true….as you can confirm it with your own eyes. After hundred years of hard austerities and cultivation, a snake gains the form of a shape shifting serpent and gains a human form with countless mystic powers."
"And I am that Shape Shifting Serpent; Amrit Sheysha."
Cold sweat broke out on Ava's body. His throat was perched. Seeing his fearful condition, Amrit smiled proudly.
Ava couldn't endure the mocking even if he was caged by the tail. His eyebrows scrunched as he said, "no matter who you are, at the end you are also an unnatural freak just like those sorcerers! You are the prime sinners! And it's my duty to wipe out the sinners from our motherland! And I shall follow that till the end of my life," he proudly recited the oath of his cult.
"Ghoul warriors, finish this worm!" He ordered.
Time slowly passed but to his surprise nothing happened. He looked around only to find only four soldiers behind him. Two of which were already lying dead on the ground, their bodies turned blue by the venom of snake bite. While the remaining two were still imprisoned by snakes which were coiled around them from head to toe.
Fear creeped inside him. His heart fell as he turned to look at Amrit.
The beautiful man laughed cheekily, "The Chief Commander of such a big cult is left alone now? Such a pity."
But the next second his smile vanished, his eyes turned more deadly. He swung his tail and pulled Ava closer to him. Now they were facing each other, "but I didn't invite you here to play games. I want to know the current location of my Neel!"
"Tell me!"
Ava got more brave, "I won't! You can't get that out of me, you filthy earth slithering creature!!" He spat.
Amrit threw his head back in annoyance and sighed, "my dear Chief Commander, I thought you liked being alive. Oh! How wrong was I to assume that!" Saying this, he started tightening his hold around Ava.
The man could feel the suffocation, his pain increased by leaps and bounds when he heard a few of his bones crunching.
Yet, he bared his teeth and looked at Amrit with a hateful gaze, "this little amount of torture won't be enough for this Chief Commander!"
Hearing this, Amrit laughed again, "you thought that was my torture? Wrong! Let me show you what it actually looks like…."
He looked towards the direction of the remaining two soldiers. The snakes coiled around them slowly left and both of them fell on the ground.
Amrit waved his hand as both of them started levitating in the air. With another hand gesture three feet long and very sharp thorns appeared under them. Slowly they were brought down on the sharp thorns. Their screams were ear piercing when the thorns pierced them. It shook Ava's heart and bravery.
He looked at Amrit as if looking at the God of death. The serpent man smirked at him, "scared by just this much? It's just a demonstration. I know many ways by which I can torture you for months without you dying. Choice is yours, Chief Commander."
"He is at your own house!" Ava instantly blurted. "They- they have kept him there because the Cult Master said it's one of the safest homes in the world! He is also there! Still alive but- but….." he spilled everything in a breath.
Amrit didn't say anything for a long time. Finally, he turned towards Ava and smiled widely, "thank you for your assistance, Chief Commander. I forgive you for my mistreatment." His hold loosened.
Ava breathed a sigh of relief, internally planning to inform the Cult Master about the earth-worm Amrit as soon as possible. But the next second the hold tightened again.
Ava looked at him disbelievingly, "but- but you said- you said…."
"Of course I forgive you," Amrit explained, "but this is for the people who got ruined because of you and your stupid cult! The people whose homes got bombarded, who lost their family members and people who are forced to fight an unnecessary war just because of your selfish motives!"
"And don't think I don't know how you did illegal experiments on captured humans and sorcerers, how you raped countless innocents and many more of monstrous acts!"
"This is your retribution for all of that!"
Saying this, he tightened the hold in a deathly manner and broke the man's countless bones. Ava screamed inhumanly. Amrit threw him on the ground, "I have a perfect death gift for you!"
He pulled out the silver dagger struck in his serpent tail which was stabbed in his right leg by this same man and plunged it deeply in Ava's chest.
"This dagger will give you so much pain that you will beg for death but you know what the funny thing is, due to my magic you won't go into shock or die because of pain; you will die due to hunger and thirst!"
"This is your karma for your beastly actions, Chief Commander Ava."
Amrit threw the man on the ground. He returned to his human form as his serpent body changed into human legs. He turned back, joined his palms and bowed down to pay his respects to the temple.
Closing his eyes, only one face was in his mind. A tear again slipped from his eye and fell on the grass covered ground.
"I will see you soon, Neel," he whispered with a determined expression and started walking towards his Neel's direction.
