Chapter 7: The new sovereign

That night was just like any other night. Some residents had already turned off their lights. Some were still working overtime. Some were busy with parties and enjoying the nightlife while some others were celebrating special days like anniversaries or birthdays.

The environment was calm and peaceful just like an ordinary night in the capital city. Nobody could point out a thing which they found abnormal.

But maybe this calm and peaceful environment was the silence before the storm…….

The next day when all the residents of the capital city got ready to start their new day, they realised something very strange.

There was still dark outside as if it was still night.

And this darkness was not like the usual darkness which occurred when the sky was covered with dark clouds but it was more like the darkness of midnight. The sky was completely clear.

Everyone was shocked and estranged by this fact. Many speculations were propounded to guess the cause of it. But none could determine the actual cause.

People had yet to accept this strange situation when another strange occurance began.

It was a voice.

The voice neither sounded feminine nor masculine. Yet, it carried a hint of happiness as if being victorious in something. However, the words it spouted were shocking.

"Good morning to the lovely citizens of this nation. But I don't think this morning is good for you, is it? You are shrouded with darkness, after all.

"However, this is your new reality and all of you have to accept it."

"Because this darkness is the symbol of our sovereignty of this nation."

People were shocked after hearing this. They were eager to know who was the person announcing themselves as the new sovereign of their nation. But they were most curious about the source of the voice because many people were standing in open grounds where there were no speakers or communication devices near there. Yet, the voice was still there as if- as if it was mixed in the air.

The voice again sounded,

"I know you must be quite eager to meet your new leader, after all your old leader was useless. Died just after one strike, you know."

So this person had already killed their Prime Minister, many people concluded in their hearts.

"So here I am, the new sovereign of this nation, the Cult Master of The Ghouls of Sin!"

"Yes, we have taken over this nation and all of you are my subjects now!"

'The Ghouls of Sin!!' 

When people heard this, they couldn't believe this! This cult! The same cult who always took the initiative to help people. Who were famous for their philanthropic activities.

They had killed their Prime Minister and taken over the authority by force?! How could that be?

"I know all of you must be shocked by this fact. But we all know how useless our government and system was, it needed to be changed and we did exactly that!"

And suddenly many citizens then realised that the people they know who were the members of this cult were all missing from last night! Maybe….. maybe they knew about it all along?!

This thought was scary for a lot of people.

Humans have a tendency to ignore the things they have but when they don't have it they long for it.

Similarly people always ignored their freedom but many had a crisis when they realized that this freedom was soon going to be snatched by this Cult Master.

But they recalled some hope. The nation's military power and police authorities! They could definitely teach these dumb cult members a lesson and charge them for treason!

But it seemed the voice was also thinking about this,

"The sooner you accept our sovereignty the better it is for you and all the armed forces. Because if we can hide the Sun you can ascertain what kind of weaponry we possess. Do you want their blood to be shed like water?"

"If that's your choice we are ready but it will only result in a Civil War. The consequences will still be the same. This nation is under my control now."

"Accept the truth, my lovely citizens."

And then there was pin drop silence. People were too shocked to say something. But suddenly everything broke out in chaos. Some started crying, some thought it was a large-scale prank, some were already planning to rush back to their families and run away.

Yet, it was a different story inside The Vilas Palace.

 Amrit was glaring at Neel's pale face, "so this was what you were hiding from me? You knew about it?"

"No, I did not, baby!" He denied, "I knew this cult was not as good as it showed. Moreover, I grew more cautious about them due to your identity so I was keeping an eye on them."

"And from the last few months their activities got more suspicious. That was why I had to extend my trip because many important figures of the cult gathered there for some secret meetings. Yet I still could not find out what they were planning to do!"

"Just a day ago, I got to know that they planned to lure the Prime Minister into telling them the location of the hidden sorcerers. I knew that would bring a great tragedy so I decided to stop the Prime Minister."

"But that greedy for votes fool thought that I also wanted to enter politics like my father and may snatch the sport from the Ghouls of Sin and he didn't believe it. And …the results are in front of you."

"But why didn't you tell me that night, I could do something!" Amrit said.

"Because it was your time to shed your skin and you were already so tired and weak. I did not want to endanger you, my love."

Amrit was wordless. He hugged Neel tightly, "I am sorry. I am sorry that you have to go through all that stress alone."

"Yes, we will," Neel nodded and joined their lips to seal the promise.

Everyone was shocked to the core by the turn of the events. Just last night everything was fine but now there was someone calling themselves their new sovereign.

How could people accept that!

It was a democratic nation after all. How could an unknown person announce themselves as the leader of the nation and the military and higher authorities would simply watch the show?

They could not withstand it!

So the military forces and other legal authorities of the nation decided to investigate this matter and pacify this commotion as soon as possible.

With this thought in mind, first of all they looked for a member of the cult, however they could find none. Each and every person known or speculated member of the cult had disappeared overnight.

The force had no choice but to gather around the headquarters of The Ghouls of Sin.

The headquarters was an old fortress, situated near the banks of the river. The first step was to have a peaceful talk and peaceful negotiation.

The higher ups decided to persuade the cult members but no response came from inside.

Everything was getting broadcasted on live TV.

The forces soon grew frustrated and started warning the cult members to surrender themselves but it was to no avail.

Finally it was announced that the military would force their way inside and anyone who surrenders won't be killed.

However, just then, that mysterious voice sounded again.

"It's your choice if you want to start a war but it will soon convert to a Civil War which you will definitely lose. Then don't blame us because we didn't warn you before."

The gates of the fortress were opened and a man got out with a dozen men following him. The man was Ava, a deputy lieutenant previously but now it seemed he had gotten some big position from his arrogant face.

Seeing him the Admiral asked, "Lieutenant, are you here to surrender?"

The man replied, "I am chief commander of the Ghouls army now. And who will surrender and run away we will see in a while."

Saying this, he picked up his bow and set a special arrow on it.

The other side mocked him, "coming to fight against this grand army with only a dozen men and these medieval time weapons? This man has definitely lost it!"

Ava did not reply, he smirked and just shot the arrow.

The tip of arrow shone like a ray of sun and as soon as it landed on the ground,

"//BOOOMM//"

A large blast happened. Many got injured with it. But this was just a glimpse of what was about to happen.

Ava and his dozen men started raining these magical arrows which were deadlier than a tank or a machine gun.

After losing many lives, the authorities had no choice but to retreat hastily.

And after this incident everyone got to know about the powers these ghouls held. They actively started taking over the nation. All the higher positions were taken by them and if someone protested they were publically put into eternal sleep.

Soon, the dreamlike nation turned into a nightmare.

However, no one could watch their own motherland turn into ruins.

So they secretly formed an organisation. An organisation to fight against the Ghouls and know their weakness, so the military could attack it.

Phoenix was the name of their resistance group; to make the nation rise from the ashes of war again, was their motto.

This resistance group was formed secretly at an Underground base and many known and unknown faces were the members of it.

Yet, all of them had one thing in common; their immense love and respect for their nation.

Moreover, they were most suitable because of their neutral position at this time.

Some people could still hold neutral positions in these times.

Like Neel Rathore, he was a movie emperor, a position the Ghouls did not covet. What's more, his philanthropic ways and great personality has garnered him fans from both the fighters side and the Ghouls of Sin. So no one objected to his neutral state.

But what the Ghouls of Sin did not know was that Neel Rathore himself was one of the founders of the resistance group……
