Pursuing behind the cloaked figure were black-clothed figures, numbering five of them. They were nimble, not wasting a second to attack the cloaked figure whenever possible. But the figure wasn’t letting up, zigzagging around the trees while dodging their attacks. The face wasn't visible due to the hood.
Yulia's eyes focused closely on the figures who was approaching her hut. A screen of their names and titles started to pop above their head. It was one of her cheats due to being an overseer. In a normal transmigrator’s case, they would need the system to tell them which one was which. And of course, cheats like these are not provided in shops to keep things fair.
‘Ah, the male lead is the cloaked figure. His name is Noah, a commoner. Judging from the non-existent affection bar, he hasn’t met the heroine yet. His soul seems to belong in this world too, so he is not the male lead I’m looking for…’
She observed the situation a bit more, seeing that he was being chased by mere bandits. Surely, he can handle that, no?
“Hand over your money, and we’ll let you go!”
Noah didn’t reply, but he seemingly stopped and pulled his arm up. The moment he did so, strings appeared and abruptly stopped the bandits in their tracks. Yulia smiled at his wittiness. It was no wonder he kept going around trees and almost looked like he was playing with them. Well, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that he did play them.
The strings were thin and clear, but seeing that the bandits’ clothes were torn and skin bled upon touching it, it was extremely strong and sharp. It even managed to stop five bandits.
He then roughly tied them up despite their resistance and threats. Rolling the strings back up, Noah turned around and stared straight at Yulia. It almost made Yulia believe that he saw through the barrier, but she had cast a strong third barrier.
“Hm, was I mistaken?” He mumbled and tucked the strings into his bag. Then he cautiously approached the hut. On Yulia's face was a wide, sly smile with an idea.
System 404: [You sure are enjoying this, aren’t you?]
‘Well, who wouldn't? We just got ourselves front-row seats to the male lead’s tactics. Not to mention, he seems aware of this barrier. Should I toy with him a bit here?’
System 404: […You’re being extremely childish here.]
‘Whatever you say. I’ll check a few things while I’m at it.’
Noah reached his hand out to the barrier, feeling a solid wall in front of him. As he started to feel around the barrier, Yulia intertwined her hand with his and pulled him inside the barrier. From the outside, the bandits saw Noah get pulled forward and disappeared into the air.
He drew his sword from his hip, but before he was able to attack whoever pulled him in, Yulia stopped him using magic. Even she was a bit surprised.
“Ah-ah, no attacking me allowed in here,” Yulia said as she tossed his sword aside. “That being said, you’re extremely well-trained. Even your hand is filled with calluses.”
She gave his hand a light squeeze before letting go, confirming that the mark was already there. He instantly backed up and pulled out a dagger. With his tall stature and cloaked-covered self, it made it look as if he was there to threaten her.
“My, my, you’re going to kill a weak maiden?” She asked with a smile and looked at him.
Although cautious, he purposely intimidated her with his dagger, pointing it toward her. He glanced at her laxed smile and dress before looking toward the hut behind her. His muscles tensed up, and he raised his dagger further toward her. However, still, Yulia could only find this situation a bit laughable, as it seemed quite the opposite.
“I heard that there’s a witch around here. Is that you?” He asked with caution.
“Witch? Nope, I’m just a mage,” Yulia casually lied. Her hair color was easily changed to black with magic, so she should look nothing less than a human at this moment.
“…What’s a mage doing all the way out here? Aren’t all mages ordered to gather at the palace and help fight against the demons?” He asked.
“I’m not an official mage working at the palace. Self-taught and nothing more. I’m not qualified to go there.”

"Self-taught or not, the palace needs all the help it can get."
Although she can’t see his expression very well due to the hood, she still couldn’t help thinking: ‘What’s the male lead doing out here? The palace is far from here. Has he not noticed the mark under his gloves?’
Yulia quickly set aside those thoughts and retorted back, "Then, what's the hero doing here, catching bandits? Aren't you supposed to be at the palace? Or perhaps defeating demons and whatnot?"
"!!"
"Let me read a little prophecy for you," she said as she smiled again. She only hoped this will hasten him to go to the palace and bring out the heroine while she look for the other male lead here. That way, it'll make her job easier.
“…”
Despite hearing no answer, Yulia felt a skeptical gaze coming from him. Teasing him like this and still seeing no visible reaction, she was a bit relieved. At least then, he won’t fall so easily for this heroine that he was bound to meet.
“You’re skeptical, aren’t you?” Yulia looked at him with a brow raised. “Well, this prophecy will come true. You will be hailed as a hero and meet a lovely saintess. Then, you'll begin your journey to defeat the demon king. That shall be very soon.”
“…”
“…”
System 404: […]
‘This guy is no fun… Time to kick him out.’
“Alright, out you go,” Yulia picked up his sword and handed it back to him without feeling the danger of how close his dagger was to her skin. Using magic, she smiled and waved goodbye to him before kicking him out.
She then turned back and walked to her hut. Although a bit disappointed that there were no reactions, she did learn a few things about him. He wasn’t much of a talker or a reactor. He’s tactical and well-trained, not easily swayed by appearances or women. What was impressive was that he could sense her magic barrier and was still cautious.
‘He’ll have no problems dealing with the heroine for at least some days before I arrive and intervene. I need to go find the other male lead now. Since he’s foreign here, do you think you can lead me to him, 404?’
System 404: [Yes.]
‘Sounds good. We can leave this place tomorrow. I’ve already shown myself here to Noah, so it isn’t exactly safe to keep staying here. He’ll probably be turning those bandits in for money, and then head for a city or even the palace if he’s curious about my prophecy.’
All the while, Noah was still looking at the barrier. Although unable to see anything inside anymore, he was nonetheless curious. He took off his glove, seeing the circle mark that proved him to be the hero they were searching for. Looking at the glove, he knew that these gloves were capable of covering the mark from a mage's eyes. He’s seen this mark so many times and told no one, yet the mage who resided in this forest and declared herself self-taught saw through the supposed gloves that covered that mark.
How was that possible?
He thought to himself: 'The only possible answer is that she's a high level mage. It must've been through when she made contact with me.'
After one last look, he went back to the bandits, dragging them back for the promised bounty. Tomorrow, he should come back here again. He must confirm it.
