[ Ding! System Activation Complete!]

_________

The next morning, Mingyue had a terrible headache as though she had drunk the day before and was hungover. Except she didn't drink.

She got up and looked at her surroundings.

That's to say, she tried. Where were her glasses? She could see blurred darkness with some specks of light.  Mingyue didn't have terrible eyesight, per se, but reading books and notes on the computer for 30 years didn't exactly help her escape from becoming nearsighted.

She looked around, but it was like she was just floating on air. The ground below her was not here?

As if she had finally concluded that she wasn't just in a dark bedroom and instead floating in the galaxy, Mingyue's drowsiness disappeared like a bucket of ice water had been dropped on her and she began panicking

'Where the f*ck was she?'

Daiyu wouldn't have been mischievous enough to play a prank and put a VR headset on her, so how the hell did she get here?

Did one of her enemies finally go crazy to sign a deal with NASA and send her to space?

Should have been Li Lan, that crazy bitch. Just because she rejected her once in high school because she didn't feel like dating anyone, that crazy bitch's gone full-on yandere over her.

Maybe it was Min Rushui. He's got enough influence over NASA that they could probably do whatever he says with just a few billion dollars and a word from his subordinate. Still don't know how she offended him.

Whatever, that's not the problem. How does she go back? All she can see were a bunch of unrecognizable stars with no Earth or Sun in sight. Even if she could see it, how could she get back?

What she had was money, influence, and connections, not a fucking superpower.

Mingyue didn't have any time to think before a blue light emerged, and a black cat with it. Wait, a black cat?

[ Hello, host! I'm Cordelia, or System 408, and I'm here to assist you on your journey of becoming a task taker!]

'What was happening?'

[ Since you had died from fatigue in your sleep, you may as well sign over that useless life of yours and bind it to this contract. It'll save you from boredom.]

'Huh?'

[ Look. You died. Now you gained a once-in-a-thousand-reincarnations opportunity to become a task taker. It's very simple, you choose to become a task taker, or go back into the reincarnation cycle to move on to your next life.]

"Wait", Mingyue rubbed her forehead, " So, what even is a task taker, what am I gonna get out of it, and why was I picked?"

[ Shhhh! Holy Lord God, just shut up! Has anyone ever told you how annoying your voice is? You literally realize I'm talking to you through your mind, right? I knew humans were stupid, but not to this extent. Are all humans this chatty, too. Ugh, whatever, just follow Mother's directions and you'll be fine. You're gonna be fine. You won't have to deal with these stupid humans anymore after this.]

Mingyue didn't know how cats behaved, but this o- Cordelia looked like she was trying to convince herself of something by mumbling to herself.

Next, Cordelia plastered an obvious fake and sarcastic smile on her face before saying,

[A task taker's job is to travel through planes and complete the missions and/or tasks they were given depending on their system, which in your case, would be me. You're gonna get soul power and increased attributes, which will strengthen your soul for completing the mission. If you fail the mission, your soul power would get taken away. Once you have no soul power left, you are sent to the reincarnation cycle to go to your next life. As for why you were picked, uhhh, it looks like something about high stats in the intelligence and attribute. Other than that, I don't know why you were chosen either. I wanted to get a witch as a host like Mother, but I got this useless human instead. The standards for a host have seriously been lowering.]

Cordelia sighed before continuing [ So, are you agreeing or not? I haven't got all day, you know? If you don't agree, I have to look for the next candidate. I just got licensed to manage a host, and I need to find one quickly to become an authorized system.]

Mingyue crossed her arms, frowning.

'What type of system even are you? Why should I agree if I don't even know what type of mission I'm given because I don't know what my system is?'

[ OMLG! You're just wasting my time now. It's common knowledge that my system type will only be determined after being authorized and given one. Duh. How do you not know that? Now yes or no?!]

Mingyue didn't need to debate in her mind. Assuming her form right now was her soul, strengthening it wouldn't do her any harm and would probably benefit her. She would enter the reincarnation cycle even if she failed, and besides, she could escape boredom with these so-called missions.

'Yes, I agree'

[Finally! Now that didn't take too long, did it? Let's go.]

In the next second, Mingyue felt a wave of nausea and when it ended, she felt like throwing up even when she can't.

She looked up to see a big building. No, big was not enough to describe it. It looked as though it would never stop and reached out to the stars. The sign beside it just said Time and Space Management.

[Follow me.] The cat spoke and flew inside the building.

Mingyue quickly followed as they entered an elevator within, closing the doors behind them.

[ Floor 555]

The doors opened once more and a robot sitting behind a desk appeared to be all that was present on this floor.

"Hello, are you registering a new host or newly getting authorized?"

Cordelia spoke [Yes, I'm newly getting authorized. Here's my host.]

" The paperwork and information?"

A stack of papers appeared out of nowhere and Mingyue stared in shock as the cat handed the papers.

[What? Never seen an inventory before? Oh right, your world was one of Campus Romance, so I guess it makes sense.]

'What did it just say?'

Her thoughts were interrupted by the robot speaking, "Cordelia Kesem, age 8, born in Onyx Kingdom. Race, black cat. Mother is Countess Esmeray Kesem, and Father is Duke Aibek Kesem. Is that right?"

Out of the corner of her eye, Mingyue can see Cordelia raising her head in pride before saying [Glad you know it!]

'So that's why she seemed so arrogant,' thought Mingyue.

[You realize I can hear you, right, disgusting human?]

However, she ignored the cat, because the robot began to speak to her next.

"Jin Mingyue, right?"

"Yes"

"Alright, You're all finished! Here are you're badges, and all the information will be there."

The robot handed Mingyue what looked to be a bronze badge with her name and a #408 under it.

*For those who forgot, 408 is the system number

[Okay, now that we got our identification badges, let's go back to the System Space!] Cordelia spoke with excitement as she jumped around before Mingyue felt another burst of nausea.

' Quick question, can you not do that in the future? What even was that, teleportation?'

[ It's just a small side effect. You'll get used to it. Besides, how else did you expect us to travel, by flying to each and every location? That'll take over a million light years. Besides, every system has its own system space which they can travel to at all times.] Cordelia rolled her eyes.

[ It's already a luxury I can transport us into both the major cities and a few minor ones. Now that I've gotten authorized, I can travel through different planes. Be grateful.] Cordelia spun around happily.

[Oh right, I forgot about this] A holographic screen appeared in front of Mingyue displaying what looked to be her status?

Status

Mental Strength: 105 (So you're one of those cunning ones, huh. Okay, maybe this is the reason you're here.)

Charisma: 40 (So, your records say you were a sweet talker in school and an aromantic human who somehow attracted many people even though people are more into the bad girls stereotype these days? Oh, you're a Libra. That makes sense.)

Luck: 40 (Pretty average. Well, it's given since you were a mob character.)

Skills: Lawyer

Titles: None

Halos: CEO

'Wait, I've been wanting to ask, but what do you mean by my world being a Campus Romance and me being a mob character?'

Cordelia sighed [Well, this question was going to come up sooner or later. Basically, a plane is formed from a story. So each plane or world is technically built upon a story. Your plane was a typical one of the Campus Romance books and you just happened to be living in that world. Pretty simple to understand, not that easy to digest, but yeah. It's really simple.]

[Okay, skipping that, time for my favorite, the lottery!] She exclaimed as the holographic screen turned to one that looked like a random wheel labeled System Types.

A/n: Look, I'm not the best at names okay.

Cordelia spun it with her paw as she repeatedly prayed [Please be Cult System, please be Cult System, please be Cult Syst...] over and over.

Mingyue grew nervous, 'Okay, so maybe I shouldn't have said yes. I don't want to start a f*cking cult. Nobody told me a Cult System was even a thing. This wasn't in any of the novels I read as a teen.'

When the wheel stopped it finally landed on the Screen Time System? Mingyue thought the name was pretty self-explanatory, luckily, since the only since Cordelia's ever done since the Wheel stopped was throw a tantrum while rolling around and swiping at air.

She ignored Cordelia because the label of the wheel changed to Beginner Pack. Curious, Mingyue went up to the wheel and spun it.

After waiting a few seconds, the wheel landed on an icon labeled Basic Beginner Package. When she tapped the icon, her eyes widened in surprise as the icon seemed to get absorbed into her badge while information got sent into her brain.

[Obtained 3 low-grade fasting pills, 1 low-grade recovery pill, and one low-grade ghost suppressing talisman]

[Oh, you actually managed to get a Beginner's pack? Eh, it's only basic. Yeah, so that will be stored in your inventory. If you check the back of your badge, there should be a button] Cordelia had stopped her tantrum and was looking at Mingyue again.

'There is no button.'

[Oh right, uh... they had the update 2 years ago. Okay, I'm pretty sure it's thought-activated now. Just think of opening inventory and it'll open.]

'Inventory'

A screen appeared in front of Mingyue with 64 squares and 3 of them were filled with icons. 2 of them were round pills that looked like pearls, and the other had a yellowing piece of paper with some characters over it. One of the pearl-like pills had an x3 in the corner of the square.

[Okay, great! Now that you've gotten the hang of everything, choose out of these 5 Tutorial Planes!]

5 holographic screens appeared in front of Mingyue.
