Chapter 35: Aether Art

"Well, yeah. I am." Gram calmly replied as if it wasn't a big deal. He leaned back on his chair and closed his eyes, not even bothered by Zeus' puzzled gaze. 

"Then—" 

However, before Zeus could even respond, Gram immediately interrupted his words. 

"Anyways, good luck with your future endeavors. From here onwards, you're an adventurer and I hope to hear your name become famous in the future."

Gram's chair turned around. Zeus understood this as urging him to leave. Seeing that Guildmaster Gram seemed uninterested anymore, Zeus didn't ask for further information. Since the Guildmaster is part of the Ambrose House, there will be a time when they will meet again. 

Therefore, even though he had many questions, he bowed slightly before he left in a hurry.

As Zeus exited the room, he looked at his license once again. It's an E rank instead of an F. However, considering the difficulty of the test earlier, he wouldn't be surprised if that trial was originally intended for E rankers.

"Here's my license." Zeus handed the license to Sheena— one of the receptionists. She had a tag clipped on her chest with her name on it. As soon as she confirmed the license, she hurriedly gave him a badge and scroll. 

The badge was small with a design of a cross resembling a great sword. On the other hand, the scroll contained his first mission. 

"Since you're an E rank, this should be easy for you." Sheena said softly. Her voice contained encouragement as she smiled. 

"Can I choose the missions?" Zeus asked as he clipped the badge on his belt. 

"Ah, of course. But it's required to have at least one mission completed before we could give you the right to choose."

"Is that so?" 

"Yes." 

"I see. Thank you, miss." Zeus accepted the scroll and tucked it inside his gray jacket. He'll check it outside. After all, it's crowded here. 

"You're welcome." The woman responded with a cute smile. 

Shortly afterwards, Zeus left the guild hall. Just leaving there felt a little uncomfortable as most eyes were basically on you. 

Fortunately, he already had a badge, proving that he was an adventurer. Once he found a place with minimal crowds, Zeus opened the scroll.

After reading the contents of the mission, doubt flashed in his eyes. 

'A mutated beast?' 

A mutated beast would be only called a monster once it reached the 1st Order Rank. Meaning, this beast is a weak one. Even then, he wouldn't draw conclusions easily. After all, there's a chance that it's already a 1st Order. 

'Come to think of it, this coincides with my new quest.'

Zeus remembered his quest and opened his system.

But, with this technique, Zeus could nurture another source and make him have 200 aether while still being a Novice Sorcerer. 

If Adept Ranks have 200 aether, then he would have 400. It's a cheat-like ability for a very low cost. Moreover, this technique is incomplete and still has a lot of room for improvement. 

Without hesitation, Zeus clicked the product.

Sorting out his plans, Zeus went to the parking space where they left the horse earlier. 

"Diane left me." Zeus murmured in dazed, looking at the lone horse neighing as it basked in the sun. 

'How do I get back now?'

With the size of the capital, it's difficult to navigate if he didn't memorize the roads. Fortunately, outside the guild hall, there's a giant bulletin with the map of the capital pasted on it. 

After drawing the route on a small sheet of paper, Zeus finally set off.

"You're already an adventurer and an E rank at that?" Duke Kayn adjusted his glasses. His eyes squinted as he stared at Zeus. 

"Mm. The exam wasn't hard so the process was pretty fast." Zeus leaned on the couch, trying to ease the fatigue he got from traveling back here for almost 2 hours straight in the middle of the sun.

"Well, I'm happy for you. Should we celebrate this? I'm sure the others would be happy to hear that you passed your exam."

Zeus shook his head. "I want to train, Duke. And then I'll set off in… probably a week." 

Duke Kayn smiled. Zeus wanted to train and he was happy that this child is working so hard that he didn't want to rest. Of course, he's delighted but rest is also part of training. 

After pondering for a while, Duke Kayn suddenly spoke. 

"That's fair but don't push yourself too hard. Try to go to the library and read books about our world. A week is enough to learn many things so cherish the time well."

The Eastern Region where the Rocco Kingdom rules were so big that its landmass might be comparable to the whole Earth. Additionally, there are 3 more kingdoms just as big as the Rocco Kingdom! 

However, what shocked him the most was the history. He was once curious why they called it Kingdoms instead of an Empire and the answer was in the books. 

According to it, more than a thousand years ago, the whole world was under one rule—the Ancient Empire. Of course, that's not really the name but since there's no way to know the Empire's name, it was named as such. 

This is also the reason why no one wanted to call the land they ruled an empire because it symbolizes the unification of the whole world.

Unfortunately, parts of history aren't accessible for someone like him. Even then, Zeus was already satisfied. 

What's more, the biggest gain of this short training was the half creation of his 2nd source!

With it, his aether increased from 50 to 75. The remaining 3 were added through natural cultivation which was absorbing aether from the air and casting many spells. 

Additionally, his strength and agility also increased by 2 points, while his stamina increased by 3 points. His sense remained the same, proving the difficulty of increasing this stat.

"Zeus, are you excited about the mission?" A deep female voice awakened Zeus from his daze. 

"Who wouldn't?" Zeus chomped the food as he answered Diane's question. 

After a week, he's slowly adjusting to the Ambrose Family. Isabel, his new mom, was the closest. Diane was the second. Next was Elise and finally Karl. 

Unfortunately, Elise and Karl only go home once per week as they stay in their dormitories near the academy. 

"Although you're strong, still be careful. Many missions suddenly go up in difficulties so you better retreat when that happens, okay?" Isabel softly said as a reminder. 

"Don't jinx it, mom." 

"Hahaha, fine, fine. Anyways, if you encounter any problems, don't hesitate to go back. Your life is more important than a mission." 

"Mm." Zeus nodded in understanding. 

As the three eat together, laughter occasionally bursts out of the room. The maids near the door smiled in envy hearing the happiness emanating from the dining room. 

After eating, Zeus packed his belongings and spare food. No one knows when he'll go back so it's better to be prepared. 

Standing in front of the gate, his mom and Diane waved their hands. 

"Zeus…" 

"Don't worry. I won't die." Zeus said, flashing with a wide grin. 

"You bastard, I didn't even say anything!" 

Zeus chuckled. He missed this feeling of someone caring for him. Remembering about his past, a soft sigh smile formed on his lips. 

"I'll be careful, mom." 

"You better be."

"I won't say goodbye now as I'll be back anyways." 

Soon, Zeus sat on the horse's back and waved his hand to them. "See you later!"
