Chapter 4: Volume 1—Chapter 4—Kin

I peered down from my throne at the twenty orcs bowed down before me. This was my first step in acquiring power, though I'm still weak compared to the majority of monsters in this world, I'm proud to be one step closer.

The orc that I assigned a task to returned with an elf woman on its shoulder, she was the same one from earlier. "I have brought to the Mistress, the leader of the elves!" The Orc announced tossing the elf down before my throne.

By leader, does it mean a High Elf? How could a High Elf get captured by orcs so easily? Was she stupid or something?

The elf glared at the orc that tossed her down to the ground then turned her gaze towards me, what's this?

Her expression said it all, but I will be the one to clear any misunderstandings right here and now.

"You're a High Elf, right? Tell me how did such a powerful being get captured by lowly orcs?" I asked her.

Her gaze was penetrating, but she looked as though she couldn't understand a word of what I was saying.

She opened her mouth to talk, but I could only hear gibberish while she frantically waved her arms about in anger.

Right, it must be because I don't speak elf.

How irritating, should I just eat one of the other elves to gain the language of elves as well?

As if the orcs could feel my frustration, the room was silent.

"Um, Mistress. Maybe I can be of help to you?" An orc spoke while still bowed to the ground.

"Oh, can you speak Elven perhaps?" I asked. 

"Yes, if the Mistress accepts shall I be the interpreter?" The orc asked lifting its head from the ground.

An intelligent orc? This one, I'll have to keep it close. Maybe in the future, it will gain a name.

So, with the help of this orc, the high elf and I were able to converse. After a while, I was able to clear the air between the High Elf and I.

Because of this, she started calling me a savior, doing so made me feel slightly guilty, but only slightly.

If she knew that I rescued her with ill intentions, then I'm sure it'll turn out way worse.

Well, there's no need for her to know, she should see me as her savior. That way I can use her as I please.

The reason I wanted an elf on my side is simple. As creatures of nature and pure mana, they were beings that grant blessings to those they deem worthy.

If I could win over this High Elf, I think I'd get a way better blessing than one from a regular Elf. My luck is better than in my past life here, so I'm confident that I could do it.

I pondered on how I could achieve this; the more I thought about it the more I knew that it wouldn't be easy.

The High Elf began to speak again, I turned to the orc that should be interpreting, "what's she saying?" I asked.

I waited until the orc turned to me, "it seems that she wished to make you her Kin. It's a gift to you for saving her and her people." The orc answered.

Is it me or did I just hit the jackpot? "She wants to make me her Kin, seriously? Isn't something like that too precious to just hand to anyone?" I asked dumbfounded.

My reaction made sense, after all, Kins were three times better than receiving a blessing or two. While playing the Otome game, I remember that Kins are made in two forms.

The first form was someone born from two parents that love each other, they receive abilities from both parents depending on the child's mana level. These Kins can only become Kin of one special being, this is not that bad.

While the second form was a person who inherits from a special being, this Kin may inherit from other beings, the limit is usually five. 

Right at this moment, I was easily offered to become a special being's Kin, a High Elf with an unknown background.

Even so, she's still a powerful being, even if she's kind of a ditz, to fall asleep in broad daylight where all kinds of monsters reside, something's wrong with her brain.

Should I just turn it down? Maybe she's one of the lowly High Elves with no sense of danger?

Okay, I should have seen that coming.

I have no other choice but to see how it goes, I would be just as stupid to turn down the offer of becoming someone's Kin.

Since I would gain the ability to level up if I become a Kin. In this game, going through Evolution after stage Five requires certain steps. But if I gain the ability to level up, I won't have to go through those requirements.

I haven't checked out my new skills since I woke up. I'm sure I gained more after eating that Orc Chief, well I'll do that later.

"Tell her I accept her offer to become her Kin," I ordered. I have no more reason to stall anymore.

The woman beamed and stood to walk over to me. Since I knew the process required for us to mix our blood, I bit my forefinger once she got close enough.

She pressed her finger to mine and a bright magical blue light glowed from the touch.

 

Evilyn: [The System has detected a huge wave of mana. Synchronizing...]

Evilyn: [The System is now updating...]

 

Is it because of the mana flow that the system is updating?

The flow of magic finally dimmed, "you should be able to understand me now." The woman elf spoke.

"I can, what just happened?" I asked.

"You just took all of my mana, I never thought I'd meet a strong soul such as yours," she answered rubbing her chin with satisfaction.

I gaped; it was the first time I heard something like that could happen.

"So instead of half, I took all of it?" I asked still not believing it.

"I see that you're shocked, it's as expected of the one I chose as my Kin."

 

Evilyn: [Update Complete 100%.]

Evilyn: [New features added. The host can now see the status of others, as long as the level is the same or lower.]

 

I think I made the right choice.
