"Lady Narilia, someone is here to see you." A low ranked demoness who was also Narilia's handmaiden reported. She had just finished getting dressed. She looked into the mirror to meet the reflection of her handmaiden.

"Who is tired of living?" She asked without turning as she brushed her hair.

"It's someone from the North. He looks like a god." Eres reported.

Narilia's lips twitched. She placed her hairbrush on the vanity and turned. "Huh. He is definitely not leaving the underworld."

Eres shuddered at her words. Her implication was that she would kill the god. It was not surprising. The god had the guts to make an appearance in the underworld and ask for the future queen of the underworld. He must be ready for his death.

Narilia descended the spiral staircase that led to the hall of torture where the god had been ordered to stay and wait for her. At least those low ranking demons knew how she would want to welcome the honorable guest. She smiled and grabbed a magical whip on her way into the hall of torture.

She froze when she opened the door. "Dairon?"

He was facing away from the door, trying to make sense of the gory paintings on the walls when she entered the hall. He turned with a smile. "Long time no see, Narilia. I didn't think the next time we saw each other you would welcome me so cordially."

She awkwardly dumped the whip and rushed to him. She stopped a step away from him, restraining the urge to hug him. She was a demoness now.

He snorted at her. Who cared about that kind of crap? He hugged her briefly and couldn't resist patting her head. She was wearing a tiara. "Look at you. Within eight hundred years, you have become the queen of the underworld."

She pulled away and straightened her tiara. "Queen-to-be. I haven't married the king."

"What are you waiting for?" He asked through a chuckle. She didn't say a word but her expression said it all.

"Oh. I see." He coughed and looked around. "Why don't we find somewhere to have a talk?"

"You want to find a place to sit and talk… in the depths of the underworld?" She folded her arms against her chest and unfolded them in defeat. "You are still the old Dairon."

She quit arguing with him and led the way to the Garden of Human Ghosts. "All the ghosts are off to haunt some scaredy humans. It's night in the human realm." She explained their absence and sat in front of a foldable table, offering him the other chair.

He sat with an amused smile. "Isn't it your job to restrain them?"

"Who cares?" She shrugged and snapped her fingers. A servant demoness appeared and Narilia ordered her to bring drinks. She brought blood and poured it in their glasses.

Dairon stared at the glass before him with interest. "You're now a demoness through and through."

Narilia rolled her eyes and glared at Eres. "Since when did demigods drink blood?"

"It's alright." He spoke to ease the tension, knowing that there couldn't possibly be drinks for deities in the underworld. He was still in shock when he scanned Narilia. Her hair had all turned black as well as her eyes, and everything she was wearing was black, except her lipstick, and shoes which were all red. No one would ever believe that she was once a goddess.

"How is he?" She asked, pulling him from his thoughts.

He knew without asking that she was talking about Bardumond. "Still obsessed with plants."

"Has he… gotten a mate?" She asked hesitantly as though she was scared of his response.

"No one piques his interest."

She was relieved by his response but after a few heartbeats, she looked sad. "Why? It's been eight hundred years."

"You are his mate." He shrugged. Wasn't that obvious? If she wasn't his mate, he wouldn't be half as devastated as he was when she became a demoness.

She was deep in thought for a while with her eyes shut, then she opened them and forced a smile. "I don't regret my choices. Even if I didn't achieve what I wanted." Her smile turned bitter before it faded. "Why did you come here? You do know that you run the risk of leaving your heart behind. You will not be alive, of course."

He was glad they were talking about the main business so he briefly explained how Sophie and Dahlia had been cursed.

Narilia found the situation comical. She leaned back in her chair laughing. "You came to seek me all for humans?"

"Technically, yes, but I specifically came here because I want to meet a goddess. Pearl of the Srovian Mountains."

She was about to scold him for thinking that she would know the whereabouts of a goddess when she heard the name. Her brows rose.

"Srovians are troublesome. Makes sense. But why does everyone want to see her?"

"Everyone?" He frowned in confusion. "Who else?"

Realizing that he didn't know, she crossed her arms teasingly. "That's a top secret. I'm not telling."

He smirked and crossed his arms, mimicking her stance. He knew how to settle her. He leaned over as if he was about to tell a secret. "I had Goddess Lolanthe bake some pastries. I wonder who I should share them with."

"Goddess Scarlet." She spilled the name at the mention of her mother's pastries. She didn't admit it but she had missed her so much. She tried not to focus on the thought of Lolanthe and sighed. "Scarlet, out of all goddesses. Yet another Srovian. Did I mention that I hate them?"

"A hundred thousand times in the past and twice right now, yes." He hated them too, but for a different reason from hers. Dylan was a Srovian too.

"I didn't help her, don't worry about that." She spoke in a reassuring tone. "But maybe you should know, she wanted to offer me a demigoddess in exchange for Pearl."

"She is out of her mind." Dairon furrowed his brows.

"Do you have a new feud with her?" She asked before ordering a refill of her glass to enjoy the gossip.

He sighed. "Can't you just help me? Jasmine's sister only has a few days."

"Jasmine?" Her brows shot up.

He had not mentioned that the humans he was here for were her family. He knew that she would be confused so he briefly explained Jasmine's circumstances and her relationship to the humans he has just mentioned.

"I see." She didn't look happy now that she knew Jasmine was a human for a while. "How close are you to her?"

He remained silent and she rolled her eyes.

"Whatever. You can evade that but tell me this. Is it true that the demigoddess called Jasmine was born on the Proconian Isles, the same place I was born?" She asked.

He was certain that Scarlet told her that. Now he knew which demigoddess had been offered and he gritted his teeth in anger." There are only four Proconians and you know that. She was born in the human realm which is obvious because her mother is a human."

Narilia nodded like it made sense. "Then is it true that she has two elements?" She asked.

"Yes."

"What about her relationship with my parents?"

He frowned. Just how much had Scarlet divulged? It was no secret and Narilia could find out at any time so he answered her. "They adopted her."

"How dare they!" She slammed her glass against the table so hard that the contents spilled. "Sorry." She shut her eyes to control her anger before looking at him. Her eyes were red. "King Rian wants to take her as his apprentice, doesn't he? Does he want her to rule the North after him?"

He hated where this was heading. She was looking at him probingly and he couldn't lie. "I'll not hide it since Scarlet will tell you anyway. Yes, he does want her to be his apprentice but no one mentioned ruling after him. Not that she's interested."

"Ha." She chuckled in ridicule. She stood, pacing around the table for a few seconds before she dramatically sat down. "Let me guess. Bardumond took her as a sister."

He remained silent but that was enough to answer her. She dragged a hand through her hair, pulling the tiara off in the process. "I can't believe it!"

"Narilia…" He tried to calm her.

She glared at him furiously and shut him up when he tried to get a word in. "Catalyah gave her life for them! My sister was willing to send herself to her own death and they…" She shook her head in a mixture of disbelief and anger. "Is this how they thank her? By replacing her with some Marigold they just met?"

"Jasmine." He corrected her, massaging his temples. "And she's not trying to replace anyone. Scarlet is exaggerating it on purpose."

She laughed maniacally. "Tell me, Dairon. Why should I help some Lily replace my sister?"
