He knew that she was considering accepting Scarlet's offer even though she didn't say so. It wouldn't be because she found the offer tempting but just to get rid of Jasmine.

He shifted in his seat in discomfort. "Don't think of it that way. You don't know Jasmine, she doesn't know you and you two have nothing against each other. And you don't know this but she was forced to be a demigoddess. She wanted to continue living as a human. Why would she want to be the Queen of gods?" He could see it in her eyes that his words made sense to her. He watched her sit and take deep breaths before her eyes started regaining their black color.

Using the opportunity, he pushed a little further. "How about you think of it as you helping me?"

She crossed her arms as she leaned back in her chair. "You will owe me."

"Okay." He shrugged. Owing a demon was not the wisest decision but he didn't care right now. He could very well make a deal with the king of the underworld if it meant Sophie and Dahlia would be alright.

She stared at him for a few seconds and bit her lip. She looked like she wanted to say something but changed her mind, picking her tiara that had fallen on the grass instead. She polished the dirt off it and placed it on her head then stood. "Come with me."

He stood and followed her to a red gate he had noticed before, with ghosts as guards. It led to a lake with a bridge that looked like it could collapse at any instant. He wouldn't drown but he didn't want to get any of the red liquid—which could very likely be blood instead of water—on him. Luckily, the bridge didn't collapse and they made it to a smaller building labelled 'Stray Deities.' What a disdainful name. The king of the underworld certainly hated deities.

The inside was mostly empty with unoccupied dungeons on both sides. Pearl's was the innermost dungeon which had almost no light reaching it from the scarce windows in the building.

"Pearl." He said her name through a disdainful laugh when he saw her crouched on the floor.

She looked up indifferently but her eyes widened when she saw him. "You!"

He chuckled at her sorry state. She looked pale and disheveled, nothing like the elegant goddess she once was. He was on the verge of applauding himself. "Don't glare at me that way, you don't have the power to kill me."

She gritted her teeth. Dairon would be dead if she had that kind of power but she couldn't even free herself from the cage she was being held in. "What do you want? Are you happy?"

"Yeah." He smiled. Narilia should get him a seat to enjoy the show.

"I will kill those humans if the curse doesn't." Pearl threatened and screamed in frustration.

He was amused at her antics. "Don't be silly. What makes you think I wouldn't think of preventing you from being reborn?" He burst her bubble mercilessly. "It's impossible for you to do anything to them."

Pearl screamed and crushed, threatening to never forget it and to torture the humans when they died and came to the underworld.

He wanted to pick his ear. "Are you ready to listen now? I came to offer you a deal."

"I will never make a deal with you, son of a whore!" She scoffed and pointed a finger at him in disgust. His jaw ticked.

"You were only born because your mother couldn't keep her legs closed. She was lustful for anything that passed by in pants. A human, for goodness sake?" She continued to yell profanities. It didn't bother him to be scolded abut that didn't mean it was alright for anyone to call Alaya names. She was still his mother after all.

He looked at Narilia who was having so much fun that she might as well grab crackers.

"Is there a limit to what I can do?" He asked.

"Have fun." She dismissed him.

"Aah!" Pearl's scream filled the air when he stabbed her chest. He had moved too fast for her to know what he was planning, let alone evade it.

He pulled the sword out of her chest and watched her writhe in agony and hold onto the metallic bars for support. She pressed her bleeding wound and trembled in pain as it healed. That was the fun thing about torturing the dead. They wouldn't die.

So he pulled her by her hair until she was plastered against the railings, then aimed his sword for her neck.

"You were willing to pledge your loyalty to me. Do that now." He ordered.

"Never!" She hissed.

"Wrong answer." He stabbed her spine, which was multiple times agonising because that was how she had died.

"Be good, Pearl. I might just bring you back to life." He laughed as he let her fall on the floor in a heap.

She shook her head. "You will pay for this. I swear!"

"Enough chatter. Are you my subject or not?" He frowned impatiently.

"No!" She yelled, right before he stabbed her stomach.

It took longer for her to heal this time.

When Dairon raised his sword again, Narilia grabbed his hand in panic.

"Dairon! You are going to mess with the records of her death! How will I explain it to the king?" Her eyes were wide with worry.

"You won't. I'll have to rely on you to delete them." He smirked.

"You will owe me twice." She played with her fingers and he nodded.

Seeing that the Queen of the underworld was worried, Pearl knew that her soul might perish forever if she didn't listen to him. When his sword made its way through the bars again, she raised a hand in surrender.

"I, Goddess Pearl of the…"

"Did you just say goddess?" His brows gathered and she shook her head in horror.

"I, Pearl of the Srovian Mountains, pledge my loyalty to Demigod Dairon of the Norlan Islands. I promise to obey only him and if any harm were to befall him, may it befall me tenfold." She gritted her teeth when she felt the pledge take effect. For a low ranking demigod, a pledge of loyalty should only be empty words. Why was she starting to feel like a seal had been put on her soul? She was yet to ask when she involuntarily dropped to her knees.

"Good ghost." He smiled.

"What may I do for you, Master Dairon?" She asked without looking up, shocking Narilia out of her wits.

Dairon's smile widened. "Go to the realm of humans, to the residence of Harry Cavendish and free Sophie Cavendish and Dahlia Cavendish of the curse you bestowed on them. When you are done, come back here."

"Yes, Master Dairon." Pearl disappeared from the dungeon.

Narilia was still in disbelief. She collected her jaw from the ground and waved her hands in surrender. "Okay, I take back what I said about you owing me. I got to enjoy such an entertaining show."

He turned and started walking out of the building. He was certain that Pearl would lift the curse since it was his order.

"Do you need anything else?" Narilia asked, falling into step with him.

He thought for a moment and turned to face her. "Since you asked, I would appreciate it if you looked someone up for me. Her name is Vivian Levnen. She died one month ago by drowning in Clarepar sea." He had not thought about asking about Vivian but it wouldn't hurt to know since he was here.

Narilia rolled her eyes. "Are you obsessed with humans?"

"Is she here or not?" He ignored her question about his obsession. Time was ticking and he needed to get out of here.

Narilia slowed down and opened a circle which she used to scan through the residents of the garden of human ghosts. She shook her head after a while and caught up with him. "She is not among the ghosts here."

He was relieved. That meant she had been selected for rebirth. "How about among the souls ready for rebirth and incarnation?" He asked just to be certain.

"The king keeps the list of names. I'll help you check and send you a letter through the door." She promised.

This time, she led him through a different path that didn't require crossing the bloody river. She wanted to invite him for a late night snack but he declined when he realized how fast time had moved.

"It's almost midnight."

"Don't worry. Your carriage will not turn into a pumpkin or anything." She snorted.

He grinned. That wouldn't happen. The only thing that would happen was him being unable to leave the underworld and become a wandering soul or a demon. She knew this, which explained her smile when she realized that he had seen through her plan.

"I only want company." She pouted.

"You have Pearl." He smiled and prepared to leave.

"Wait." She whispered. When he turned, she shook her head and looked away.

He chuckled in understanding. "Alright. I will say hello to Bardumond and send his response along with the cookies." He hugged her briefly. "Goodbye, Narilia."
