"A pegasus?" Jasmine muttered in surprise as she took a few more steps forward. "I should have known they exist too."

She eyed the pegasus as it jumped and whipped its tail around. What was it doing? She laughed. She turned to look down at the leopard beside her. "Goldie, let's go."

Goldie growled in protest and she glanced at it with a laugh. "Are you jealous?"

From its reaction, she raised an eyebrow in amusement. It was possessive and didn't want her to be enchanted by any other animal. Not even if it was a pegasus. Was this really a leopard? It was acting like a domestic cat.

She walked down the mild slope with Goldie following reluctantly, and approached the pegasus. It turned around when she was a few steps away. Her lips formed a smile. It was so beautiful. It was the whitest thing she had ever seen. If it were a horse, every rider would want it and it would be the most priced, and the fact that it had wings made it even more fascinating. Light radiated off its wings and she was enchanted.

"I take back what I said about wanting to kill Lord Blaze." She smiled when she finally comprehended his intention. She didn't have wings and might need them during her mission to the underworld, so he had sent her to find a pegasus. With a few more steps, she was standing before the beautiful pegasus. She raised a hand to pet its smooth, white body. "Hey."

A kick assaulted her side.

Shit!

She cursed as her body hit the ground. When she looked up, the pegasus was charging at her. This was nothing like Goldie rubbing its head against her stomach earlier. This was a beast that wanted her to die.

Goldie charged at it and she yelled out. "Stop! Goldie, stay out of this!"

She shuffled to her feet. Goldie didn't pay any heed to her words. If it understood her, that is, and was holding a stare off with the pegasus.

She freaked out. "No, Goldie. You may be a leopard but he has powers. Stay the fuck away!"

Goldie roared.

"Right now!" She glared at it, and the leopard withdrew to the side grudgingly. That gave the pegasus the chance to charge at her.

"Stay!" She commanded.

That earned her a kick and the pegasus didn't even need to be close to her. It had used its front limb to conjure up enough wind to send her slamming her back against a tree.

She steadied up and glared at it. "So your element is air. Good, because mine is fire." The air was filled with smoke as soon as she was done speaking and she was the only one who was not choking. The pegasus was having trouble breathing. It flapped its wings and rose in the air, and she cursed. She had forgotten that it could fly.

It shoved its limb forward and the tree she was leaning against snapped at the top, the broken trunk came tumbling down at her head. She managed to leap away at the last millisecond but her arm sustained some impact.

What had she gotten herself into? She willed for rocks to crumble down on it and the beast fell from its high. She used the chance to create a wall around it, remembering to cover the top as well.

The wall broke down before she could recover her strength.

"Goldie, get away!" She commanded her pet to get away before it could be trapped. As soon as Goldie was away, she made the ground around the pegasus sink and she heard its howl as it sank deep into the ditch she had just created. Good. There wasn't enough space for it to flap its wings and fly up. She dodged its air attacks and sent a mega fireball into the ditch. Another howl resounded and she smirked. No one messes with fire deities, fried pegasus. Oh, it was a roast pegasus.

She wanted to peek into the ditch. Was it alright?

The ground beneath her shook and her eyes went wide with horror. What in the actual… she stopped mid-curse when the pegasus burst out of the ditch, having broken the walls around it.

Crap.

She formed fireballs on both of her hands but before she could hurl them at it, the pegasus dropped its wings that had just started to heal and lowered its head. The fireballs disappeared from both of her hands as she looked at it curiously. Was that submission?

It neighed and just like with Goldie, she understood it. It was acknowledging her. Her heart felt full and she closed in, rubbing her hands against its neck. It neighed happily and she giggled.

"What's your name?" She peeked under its neck. There was a silver-colored name tag that she had not noticed before but it was blank. When she looked back at the pegasus, she eyed it strangely. Dairon's ability was insane. If that was what was making her comprehend animals' needs, that is.

"Since you don't have a name, I'll call you Phoenix. I was reborn so it's meaningful." She placed her hands on both sides of its face. With a neigh, she knew that Phoenix loved his new name, but her giggle was followed closely by Goldie's jealous roar.

She shook her head and went to her pet leopard that had been holding in the urge to fight for its master but couldn't move thanks to her command. She petted the feline behind its neck. "You're just a big cat after all. Go back to your cubs. If Dairon allows it, I'll come and take you with me when they are old enough to be on their own." Goldie rubbed its head against her stomach sadly. She would miss it too.

She looked at the pegasus. "I need to go. Dairon and Lord Blaze are probably fighting up a storm."

Blaze turned around after sending Jasmine away and had to hold his hands up in surrender. Dairon was holding Lolanthe in a death grip and had his sword against her neck.

"She is okay. I promise you, she is fine. Don't hurt my wife."

"I gave you a chance!" Dairon roared.

"What are you doing?" Lolanthe scolded and shut up when the cold sword connected with her neck. It stung.

Blood drained from Blaze's face. This demigod was out of his mind!

"She will be back soon! I sent her to the human realm to get something she needs for her mission. There is nothing dangerous there."

Dairon wasn't having any of his crap. "If there is nothing dangerous, why did you sneak up on her?!" His voice raised into a roar.

"Because that's part of her training!" Blaze roared back at him. "She is my daughter, damn fish. I would never do something that could kill her."

Dairon laughed like he had heard the most ridiculous joke of his life. "You sent your own daughter to her death. What makes you think I would believe that you wouldn't hurt Jasmine?" His grip on Lolanthe tightened. If she was not Bardumond's mother, her head would be rolling towards the water underneath them already. "If anything happens to Jasmine, consider your wife dead, firefly."

Blaze and Lolanthe exchanged sad glances.

"No one leaves until Jasmine comes back." He snapped, finally letting go of Lolanthe. His eyes were flaring with anger as he pointed at Blaze. "And I'm warning you, firefly. If she is missing a single strand of her hair…"

"Calm down, will you?" Lolanthe scolded him. "We love Jasmine."

"You loved Catalyah, didn't you?" He uncontrollably mentioned the name that was a taboo topic. The air lingered with silence for the few hours that followed, punctuated with Lolanthe playing with rocks and throwing them into the water, Blaze pacing and Dairon resisting the urge to conjure an apocalyptic storm. He wanted to charge into the human realm to look for her but he didn't know where she went and Blaze wouldn't tell him. His only consolation was that if Jasmine were in danger, he would feel it and he was yet to feel anything.

A neigh resounded and they all looked up.

Lolanthe was the first to react. She shielded her squinted eyes and gasped. "Is that a pegasus?"

"My daughter is back." Blaze smiled proudly, while Dairon was too excited to say a word.

The pegasus dived onto the bridge and landed next to them, and Jasmine slid off with a heartfelt smile. Her first instinct was to jump into Dairon's arms and wrap her hands around him.

"Catalyah," He whispered.

"I met Goldie. She is so big that I couldn't recognize her at first and she has cubs! And…" She stopped mid sentence. Her face drained of color as her mind processed what she had just heard. A chill sank into the pits of her stomach. She looked up to meet Dairon's eyes.

"What did you call me?"
