The following morning.

Jasmine pushed around the oatmeal on her plate with her spoon as she watched Dairon opposite her. Everything was normal for him, or at least he made it seem that way with his nonchalance. Her night had been a mess and she didn't know what to say of the fact that none of it seemed to affect him.

"What's wrong? Don't you like the food?" He asked when he realized that her food was untouched.

She shook her head and. "Everything's alright. I don't remember what happened to my mission." She shovelled a spoonful of oatmeal into her mouth but it tasted no different from Bardumond's insanely bitter herbal concoctions. She forced herself to swallow it down with Dairon still watching her.

"It was cancelled because Sinos returned. Have you forgotten?" He raised an eyebrow, responding to the question about her mission with a lie.

She rubbed her temples. "I remember now. Scarlet wanted me to do some crazy crap. I totally didn't want to go." She forced a laugh. She had said that but she was certain that it was not what she felt. Something felt off. It was as if she had been forced to change her mind about the mission she had been looking forward to.

She forced down two more spoonfuls of oatmeal and decided that would be enough to keep her body moving. She stood. "I'll be late if I don't leave right now."

"You have barely eaten. Are you unwell?" He asked worriedly.

She shook her head, wanting desperately to get away from him. "I'll grab some shortbread from the kitchen on my way. What do you have to do today?" She asked, so it wouldn't be obvious that she was escaping.

"Help King Rian handle a few matters. I'll pick you up from the academy." He didn't sound like he noticed anything, much to her relief.

"Thank you. Have a great day." She shuffled to the door and almost bolted away, vaguely hearing him say 'you too, flower' as she rushed down the hallway.

….

"That will be it for today." King Rian announced when Dairon had finished the last of the errands he had sent him on. He sat down on a couch in his chambers and asked, "have you found out anything about the other side?"

Dairon ignored his silent invitation to sit on the opposite couch. "Aside from the fact that Narilia hasn't married the king of the underworld yet? No."

King Rian looked stunned for a moment. He then rested his head on his hand. "Do you know why she hasn't? It's been eight hundred years."

"I didn't ask her." He lied.

"You should have." King Rian studied the demigod before him strangely. Why did it seem like he was deliberately withholding some information? He and Narilia were friends. It was impossible that after exchanging letters for a while, he would not ask about that when it was the most shocking twist of what they all thought of Narilia.

"I have something to ask of you." Dairon stated, pulling him out of his thoughts.

"Go on." He looked up to meet his gaze.

"Don't involve Jasmine in the dirty business." Dairon's expression was serious and from his tone, he was demanding for King Rian to do as he said and there was no room for negotiation.

King Rian forced a laugh as his own expression turned stern. "That's not the tone you use to ask for favors."

Dairon looked out the window and when his gaze returned to King Rian, he was on the verge of losing it. He leaned over the table threateningly. "I am not asking anyone for favors. I get what I want when I want it. There is no limit to what I'll do to get what I want."

"I've always known that. Take a seat, Dairon." King Rian pointed his hand at the couch beside which Dairon was standing.

He glanced sideways at it and sat.

"Tell me, have you ever felt hateful?" King Rian asked.

Dairon raised an eyebrow and planted his elbow on the table, looking sharply at the god before him. "What are you asking?"

"Nothing." King Rian studied him. "Just… you confuse me, Dairon. I can't figure you out even if I try."

Dairon held his gaze and smirked, then he stood up. "Enjoy the rest of your day, King Rian."

….

Training was finally over. Sinos had taken over her sessions but she felt empty. It wasn't because she thought Scarlet was a better trainer than Sinos. It was quite the opposite since Sinos would never take out his personal emotions on a trainee. However, she liked being close to Scarlet because that way, she could confirm the theories she had learnt about her.

She didn't want to risk putting anything into action until she was certain.

Maybe she could have a word with Sinos and have him transfer her to Scarlet's class for longer? She was still thinking about it when a pair of arms wrapped around her. She yelped in surprise and patted her chest when she realized that it was Alaina.

"You scared me." She bent down to pick the books she had dropped.

Alaina helped her pick them up and beamed. "I finally found you. I thought you were going to bail out on us."

"Yeah. I was beginning to get mad." Added Terra, who Jasmine had not realized was behind Alaina.

She shifted her gaze between the two of them. "Bail out… Do we have plans?"

"To see the rainbow fountain and watch the gods of war spar. Don't tell me you forgot." Terra pouted.

She was confused. "When did we plan that?"

Alaina glared at her for forgetting. "The day before yesterday. You were roaming the gardens with that little god. What's his name again?"

"Xarz." Terra filled in the blank.

"Yes." Alaina looked back at Jasmine. "Terra and I bumped into you and we caught up, then we made plans."

"Oh…" Her head spun. She might have had trouble with remembering things before but she was certain that the incident the goddesses were talking about did not happen. She didn't feel like she had forgotten it, but as if the memory had been forcefully injected in her head but had failed to settle.

She rubbed her throbbing temples. "How about this? I'll rush back home and get changed, then I'll be right here in a jiffy. I feel all sweaty in these."

Alaina looked down at her training bodysuit and didn't think it would be great for their adventure either. "Alright. You better wear a beautiful dress and put on some makeup."

"Is that necessary?" She asked with a slight squint of her eyes, realizing for the first time that the goddesses were both beautifully clad in exquisite dresses.

"Of course." Terra frowned at her for not knowing. "The gods of war are so handsome. Maybe it's because of how they fight, but I want to marry one of them."

Jasmine burst out laughing. "I thought you wanted Dairon just two weeks ago."

Terra played with a lock of her curly, hazelnut hair. "You like him and good friends don't steal each other's partners."

"That's so sweet of you." She hugged the goddess. It was the most loyal thing she had heard since she woke up in the realm of immortals.

Alaina pushed them from each other with an eye roll. "Hurry and go. They will start soon."

"Okay, be here in a few minutes." She smiled and teleported to Dairon's island, forgetting that he promised to pick her up. After a shower, she searched for the perfect dress to wear. She was not interested in the gods of war and didn't want to wear anything attention-seeking but thinking about it, sticking out like a sore thumb would attract even more attention even if it would be on the negative side.

She settled for a burgundy dress that reached an inch above her knees and looked at her reflection in the mirror. She needed to start making her clothes in the same styles as goddesses. The human realm clothes she had been wearing were as different as they could get and she was starting to think they were the reason why everyone knew her before she introduced herself.

She skipped the makeup and let her hair down, then exited her room.

She bumped into Dairon at the door and took a step back to avoid knocking into his chest.

"Dairon?"

"You are avoiding me." It was not a question. He sounded certain of it.

Even so, she shook her head. "You are overthinking."

"Am I?" He smirked, clearly not believing any of her bullshit. He reached for her hand. "Nothing has changed, flower."

Something in her head snapped and she glared at him. Her hands flew to her hips. "I thought I knew you then it turned out like a slap in my face that I don't. How can nothing have changed?"

"Flower…"

"I was starting to believe that I like you." She interrupted. "Is that also something you put in my head?"
