She liked him?

His initial surprise died down when he realized what she had just said. She was not confessing her feelings. This was not the time to be overjoyed!

He stepped forward to close the distance between them and cupped her face. He looked into her eyes, stopping the smile that was threatening to form on his face. "Jasmine, I did no such thing. I may be able to control time and events but I cannot influence anyone's feelings. If you like me, then you really…"

She swatted his hand away, cutting him off. "I don't know how come no one else feels that something is strange but I feel like crap. It's as if someone tried to remodel my brain but ended up jumbling everything into a mess. It's even worse now that I know who the culprit is, and that he is living his life normally as if he did nothing wrong. How can I trust you?"

"I don't demand your trust. I'm well aware of the fact that I don't deserve it."

She glared at him for his audacity to say it out aloud. "Aren't you honest?" She huffed sarcastically and pushed past him.

He grabbed her hand and pulled her back in front of him. "Where are you going?"

She scanned his face when she couldn't place his tone. Was he upset about her departure? Or was he simply condescending? She didn't know whether or not she was furious with him and that made her even angrier. The knowledge that he could be compelling her as a way to quell her anger made her want to slap him in the face.

But she didn't. She took a deep, calming breath and pulled her arm out of his grasp. "I'm going back to the academy. We will then go to the training grounds of the gods of war and watch them spar against each other."

His jaw ticked and he practically forced the syllable out. "Why?"

She shrugged. "I don't know." She knew why he was upset and for some odd reason, it made her feel a little better. Whatever he felt, whether it was jealousy or rage, he had earned it.

"You made Terra and Alaina believe that we made plans to go and watch the gods spar. You did whatever it is that you did to make time skip even while knowing that the events that would follow may not be desirable and they would be beyond anyone's control. You didn't care about it so if you really want to know why I'm going, you should ask yourself."

He looked deflated and although she thought she would enjoy seeing him at a loss, she didn't. She wanted to soothe him, to reassure him that unlike the other goddesses and demigoddesses, she had zero interest in the gods of war. She was definitely out of her mind to have such a thought for this sadist.

"I'll get going." She announced, intending to make him move out of her way. He didn't.

She raised her eyes to look into his deep, blue ones. "What? Are you going to make me forget the conversation that just happened? Or will you erase the memory of everything that led to you making time skip?"

His hand that was about to touch her face dropped in defeat. "I wasn't planning on doing that."

"Then why are you looking at me that way?" She felt spooked. His eyes looked like they could pierce right through her soul.

"I'm curious. Why are you immune?" When her eyes flared, he quickly realized the misunderstanding he had caused and spoke to rectify his words. "Don't get me wrong. It's admirable."

"You can admire it all you want. Alaina and Terra are waiting for me." She ignored him and walked off.

He watched her back until she disappeared and cursed.

"Now you've gone and done it." He scolded himself.

"You almost had her, then you went and ruined it."

"Lord Madlen winked at me!" Terra squealed and cupped her red face in her hands, making Jasmine and Alaina burst into laughter.

The three of them had been late and the gods had already started sparring by the time they arrived. There weren't many deities watching so their late arrival was conspicuous and the sparring gods looked in their direction. Of course, it made the spectator females glare at them like they were declaring war.

"Go Madlen!" Terra dropped the honorific and cheered him, her face turning redder by the minute.

The god called Madlen glanced in the direction where they were sitting and bowed, mouthing 'your wish is my command, milady' before proceeding to massacre his next opponent in three swift moves.

"Putting their looks aside, they're actually great." Alaina whispered.

"Are they?" Jasmine chuckled. More than the battlefield, she had been paying more attention to the females around them. Madlen was one of their favorite gods and the fact that he had noticed the latecomers irked them, but that was not what she had in mind. She felt a familiar presence but couldn't immediately figure it out.

Alaina misunderstood her response and rolled her eyes. "You are so boring. I know you have Dairon but can you loosen up a little? There's nothing wrong with appreciating the looks of a handsome god."

"I know there isn't." She tore her gaze away from the spectators and continued watching Madlen try his best to win the goddess he had eyes for. It seemed like love at first sight for them.

Madlen had emerged the victor of his group and had to wait for the other groups to spar so he would face their winners. He grabbed the chance to head for the spectator seats.

"He's coming towards me!" A goddess squealed to her companion in front of them, making Jasmine and Alaina exchange glances and laugh under their breaths. He was onbviously looking for Terra.

Sure enough, he ignored all the females pining for his attention, wove through them to stop in front of Terra and extended a hand.

Terra was bursting in embarrassment, so Jasmine grabbed her hand and placed it in Madlen's. He smiled his thanks to her and bowed, kissing the back of Terra's hand and pulling her to stand.

"I'm Madlen of the Norlan Islands." He introduced himself and looked at her.

"Terra." She stammered. "Terra of the Srovian Mountains."

"That makes sense. I would definitely notice it if a beauty like you was born in the same territory as me." He flirted and she blushed, then he said something in her ear. She nodded and just like that, he led her away.

"Uhm… what just happened?" Jasmine blinked as if she was missing something.

"Our friend just met her mate. Her tall, handsome and powerful mate. I mean, I hope he is her mate. They look so good together." Alaina rambled and then turned to her. "There are still handsome gods of war in the ring. The one with black wings is so beautiful! It's a pity that I don't know his name."

Jasmine looked at the god that was the new catch and sighed. "He's so-so. I'm sure Dairon would kick his butt in every way that counts even though he is not a god of war."

"I'm glad you think so."

Jasmine gasped in shock when she heard Dairon's voice behind them, out of the blue. Alaina didn't look shocked, she must have seen him. She glared at her for not telling her anything and turned back to Dairon.

"What are you doing here?"

"I came to see what it is about the amateur gods that you like so much." He said disdainfully, ignoring the gasps that resounded thanks to his comment. He wrapped his arms around Jasmine and made her stand. "It's a relief to know that in your eyes, I'm the only one who deserves a second glance."

She rolled her eyes. "I said no such thing."

"You implied it." He shrugged and sat on the seat that Terra had left when she was swept off her feet by Madlen. "Do you want to watch something more interesting?"

"Shut up." She rolled her eyes at him. "You're the kind who would talk throughout a movie. It's so distracting."

He threw his head back laughing, then he made a show of pulling an imaginary zipper against his lips. "My lips are henceforth sealed. Though it would feel much better and be more effective if they were sealed by yours."

He didn't care to lower his voice while talking about such an intimate thing. Her cheeks were red in embarrassment and when she looked at Alaina for help, the latter merely smiled at her and mouthed 'two taken, one to go.'
